This charming 1925 condo was due for a bathroom remodel. I had so much fun on this Mid Century Modern influenced design! Kohler's Purist fixtures in brushed gold was the starting point on this design. All other decisions were curated around the simplicity of this collection.

The homeowner of this old, detached garage wanted to create a functional living space with a kitchen, bathroom and second-story bedroom, while still maintaining a functional garage space. We salvaged hickory wood for the floors and built custom fir cabinets in the kitchen with patchwork tile backsplash and energy efficient appliances. As a historical home but without historical requirements, we had fun blending era-specific elements like traditional wood windows, French doors, and wood garage doors with modern elements like solar panels on the roof and accent lighting in the stair risers. In preparation for the next phase of construction (a full kitchen remodel and addition to the main house), we connected the plumbing between the main house and carriage house to make the project more cost-effective. We also built a new gate with custom stonework to match the trellis, expanded the patio between the main house and garage, and installed a gas fire pit to seamlessly tie the structures together and provide a year-round outdoor living space.

We designed this lovely, private dining area with custom wood-slat screens and a concrete kitchen complete with seating, grilling, counters and wood storage. Climbing hydrangea vines are being trained to extend over the custom window arbor.

Here is an architecturally built house from the early 1970's which was brought into the new century during this complete home remodel by opening up the main living space with two small additions off the back of the house creating a seamless exterior wall, dropping the floor to one level throughout, exposing the post an beam supports, creating main level on-suite, den/office space, refurbishing the existing powder room, adding a butlers pantry, creating an over sized kitchen with 17' island, refurbishing the existing bedrooms and creating a new master bedroom floor plan with walk in closet, adding an upstairs bonus room off an existing porch, remodeling the existing guest bathroom, and creating an in-law suite out of the existing workshop and garden tool room.

The in-law suite kitchen could only be in a small corner of the basement. The kitchen design started with the question: how small can this kitchen be? The compact layout was designed to provide generous counter space, comfortable walking clearances, and abundant storage. The bold colors and fun patterns anchored by the warmth of the dark wood flooring create a happy and invigorating space.
SQUARE FEET: 140

A swooping charcoal-gray stone wall tells the story of this modern home in one gentle but generous gesture. Enveloping trees, entry, living room, and vistas all at once separates the main wing for two from an in-law suite and carefully guides this ensemble around
a set of mature tress. Lightly placing this house on a heavily wooded Charlotte, NC site while keeping the natural setting intact, paired with concerns of privacy, sunlight, and views of nature has made the initial design phase especially fun and challenging.

This bright Santa Monica ADU features a cheerful palette with a bold blue tile backsplash, warm oak accents, and clean white cabinetry, creating a welcoming retreat in a compact footprint. Vaulted ceilings, natural light, and efficient built-in storage make the space feel open and airy, while a cozy sitting area and functional kitchenette offer comfort and style for guests or extended stays.

This cocoon of a Boho bedroom has a secret: the queen size platform bed is partially built over the raised foundation of the main house, allowing us to steal a little space to make the room two feet wider. The other part of the bed provides three huge storage drawers below. I was thrilled to discover that the college age occupant-to-be had always wanted a platform bed. Mission accomplished!
To save space, the closet was also built into the raised foundation level of the house, but this is hidden by a barn door slider, so no one is the wiser.
It was requested that I design the bedroom to accommodate the existing furniture from this young woman's former bedroom. Her style is Boho, and we did it to the max! With two walls in moody dark purple and the other two in lighter lavender, the space is cozy and cheerful, youthful and contemporary, with a bit of shabby chic thrown in for good measure. Colorful patchwork pillows mix with geometrics, florals, and stripes to add to the fun.

Enclosed dining room - mid-sized coastal medium tone wood floor enclosed dining room idea in Orange County with beige walls and no fireplace

Our Pasadena studio transformed this 1908 carriage house for our clients, a husband-and-wife team who own a leading Family Law practice in Pasadena. We created an inspiring workspace that doubles as a craft area, promising to boost energy and promote relaxation. We started with Thibaut's eye-catching Dynasty collection wallcovering, which served as an inspiration for the space and satisfied the client's love of mood-boosting color. Charming floral-inspired hardware from Modern Matter (with original roots as a jewelry atelier) serves as a nod to the client's love of fine detail and complements the room's botanical wallcovering. We also carved out a dedicated jewelry-making area, which serves as a relaxing break from day-to-day pressures. Built-in desks, cabinets, and tall storage from California Closets make organizing a breeze. At the same time, plants, improved LED lighting, a music system, and vibrant colors enhance the space's mood-boosting benefits promoting creativity, focus, and energy – a perfect antidote to a hectic digital lifestyle.
