There are a number of preupholstered innerspring futon mattresses. The coil spring futon is something rather new and is mostly a Western phenomena. I think these types of futon mattresses are better used for sleeping than for sitting. You can sit on like a sofa, but not for long term use. Better used for guest rooms or vacation homes, not your everyday sofa. Sitting on coils with all your body weight concentrated in one spot of the mattress will wear it out much faster than an all foam or cotton futon mattress.

I love the set up of this room. Because of the shape of the room it makes sense to place two full size futons opposite of each other facing. Beautiful choice of futon cover. It compliments the rug and the wall. I like the wooden futon frame with the side table flip up arm. However, the black metal frame futon doesn't go. Do not mix metal with wood.

For such a small space, this futon looks great in this tiny guest studio. The duvet is a great idea to use on the back cushion part of the mattress to give it more of a sofa like appearance. The mattress looks a bit outdated and flimsy and should be upgraded.

This futon package contains a preupholstered futon cover sewed on. This is the 8" innerspring coil futon mattress by Kodiak. The fabric is microsuede in light brown. Looks just like a sofa and has a little bounce to it.

This is what a hard wood futon frame should look like. Notice how the slats are flat wood, not cheap hollowed metal or mesh wire. Your futon frame should be all wood with no metal for best quality.
