The setting for Night at the Queen is Downtown Bryan Texas, a truly unique, quaint, and well restored historic district not to be missed if you are visiting the Bryan College Station area. The historic Queen Theatre (correct spelling!) is undergoing a complete restoration. One of my favorite buildings, it had to be the focus of this painting! Upon completion of the restoration, I can imagine an evening that feels much like this with a few clouds still illuminated by a low, fading sunset complimenting the stunning lights of the district at night reflected on the wet sidewalks from a passing shower. Three generations have shared summers together at this very special place called Merry Hill. Recognizing their shifting needs and looking forward to future generations, the clients wanted to both drastically change their beloved family lake house and yet not change it at all. This new iteration of the cottage is nearly double the size of the original, transforming their summer home into a four-season getaway while evoking the character of the original house in a new and fresh way. The main cottage, boathouse and sleeping cabin all have broad, shallow-pitched roofs with generous overhangs that derive their form from their mid-century predecessor. Expansive openings, wood interiors, operable clerestories, and local stone double-stacked fireplaces are all familiar to the clients but rendered in different scales. Designed for resiliency and sustainability, the new retreat employs an integrated generator, geothermal heating, solar arrays, and battery storage as well as incorporates passive strategies such as sun orientation, earth sheltering, and cross ventilation to keep the interior at an ideal temperature all year round. The resulting form, detailing, and material selections of this new build allows for the seamless continuity of memory-making for a sentimental family.

Custom designed new entry. This neglected farmhouse has found a new family. Together we will undo the exterior muddling of the past, restore the interior spaces and create an amazing home for future generations to enjoy. As part of the process, we are improving the function, durability, energy efficiency and appearance of this home. We are converting a screen porch into a much-needed mudroom, air sealing the walls, increasing the insulation throughout, using resilient materials, and restoring the trim with classic details. Thanks to the amazing clients and excellent building crew, this restoration has been a truly rewarding process; transforming a village eyesore into a beautiful home.

The recent restoration of Giant View was guided by a singular principle: preserve and strengthen the spirit, craftsmanship, and mountain character of the original camp for future generations. The renovation was approached as an act of stewardship. We invested extensively in professional arboricultural care to protect the long-term health of the immediate forest. A new engineered septic system was carefully designed to work with the site's natural topography and setting. Existing retaining structures were stabilized using approaches intended to preserve the natural appearance of the setting. Exterior lighting was designed to be fully Dark Sky compliant.
