LaMont is a native of Suffolk, VA, a small town with a rich heritage. A Southern gentleman, he developed an eye for color, good design and great style early on. He grew up in a family whose love for interior design led to friendly family design competitions. The “creative types” who raised him served as his primary source of inspiration. A graduate of Howard University, Lamont worked in hospitality sales and marketing before opening Rite At Home, Atlanta‘s premier consignment furniture boutique, in 2012. He serves on the Board of Directors for Rebuilding Together Atlanta, an organization working to ensure that low-income homeowners — particularly older adults, military veterans, people with disabilities and families with children — are able to live in warmth, safety and independence. Also, he chairs the Board of Directors for the Adamsville Business and Community Partnership. Lamont is always looking for ways to impact communities through engagement and design. He has worked with Fortune 500 companies to develop their work and fun spaces for employees and even designed their CEO’s personal living spaces. LaMont believes no project is too small or too big, everyone deserves an environment conducive to dream, relax and make life happen. Client wanted us to create an elegant, luxurious master bathroom within an existing footprint, which didn't have much space to work with. Our designers and project managers were successfully able to deliver the WOW factor here - We knew the devil was going to be in the details here, so we spared no expense to make it the best it could be, with high end details and plumbing fixtures throughout and an extremely functional floorplan.

Inspiration for a transitional kitchen remodel in Philadelphia

Our client’s loved mauve as was in style in the late 1980’s when this Olathe custom home was built on acreage. The before pictures feature mauve moiré wallpaper and gold accents. What is most dated was the low cabinet size of 30 inches that was popular at that time. Arlene Ladegaard principal designer of Design Connection, Inc. was contacted after updating many rooms in their home. The first decision was to leave the marble tile floor that had been installed a few years back. Wallpaper in the purple tones was requested. The client loved purple and had accents of it in many rooms in her home. They are Kansas State University graduates. A new standard height cabinet of 36 inches was specified along with Cambria quartz countertops. A mosaic backsplash hinted of the purple accents to blend beautifully with the newly updated floral purple and silver wallpaper. Brushed nickel was chosen for the plumbing fixtures as well as an oval mirror above the countertops. The client’s love the new look including the Kohler ADA height toilet. There is no more bending down. The design of this new powder blends well with the Traditional Style of the home and works with the surrounding spaces. Design Connection, Inc. A unique wood fired outdoor pizza oven! Does your patio roar? Well this one almost does. This outdoor pizza oven is truly a pet. This oven is located in California. Inside is our Volta pizza oven kit and outside is work of art. It is as functional as it is beautiful - a Volta kit can go up to 1100F for hunting speed pizzas. Real Neapolitan style.

Mauve was the haute fashion color of the 1980’s when our clients custom-built this home on acreage. We completed this deck for another contractor. The homeowner wanted a better grade deck surface and was excited by our green MOSO Bamboo X-treme deck material. They also wanted a cable railing to keep an open view of the ravine below. This was a complex project which was very satisfying to do.

Children’s waiting room interior design project at Princeton University. I was beyond thrilled when contacted by a team of scientists ( psychologists and neurologists ) at Princeton University. This group of professors and graduate students from the Turk-Brown Laboratory are conducting research on the infant’s brain by using functional magnetic resonance imaging (or fMRI), to see how they learn, remember and think. My job was to turn a tiny 7’x10′ windowless study room into an inviting but not too “clinical” waiting room for the mothers or fathers and siblings of the babies being studied. We needed to ensure a comfortable place for parents to rock and feed their babies while waiting their turn to go back to the laboratory, as well as a place to change the babies if needed. We wanted to stock some shelves with good books and while the room looks complete, we’re still sourcing something interactive to mount to the wall to help entertain toddlers who want something more active than reading or building blocks. Since there are no windows, I wanted to bring the outdoors inside. Princeton University‘s colors are orange, gray and black and the history behind those colors is very interesting. It seems there are a lot of squirrels on campus and these colors were selected for the three colors of squirrels often seem scampering around the university grounds. The orange squirrels are now extinct, but the gray and black squirrels are abundant, as I found when touring the campus with my son on installation day. Therefore we wanted to reflect this history in the room and decided to paint silhouettes of squirrels in these three colors throughout the room. While the ceilings are 10′ high in this tiny room, they’re very drab and boring. Given that it’s a drop ceiling, we can’t paint it a fun color as I typically do in my nurseries and kids’ rooms. To distract from the ugly ceiling, I contacted My Custom Creation through their Etsy shop and commissioned them to create a custom butterfly mobile to suspend from the ceiling to create a swath of butterflies moving across the room. Their customer service was impeccable and the end product was exactly what we wanted! The flooring in the space was simply coated concrete so I decided to use Flor carpet tiles to give it warmth and a grass-like appeal. These tiles are super easy to install and can easily be removed without any residual on the floor. I’ll be using them more often for sure!
