This 7,000 square foot space is a modern weekend getaway for a modern family of four. The owners were looking for a designer who could fuse their love of art and elegant furnishings with the practicality that would fit their lifestyle. They owned the land and wanted to build their new home from the ground up. Betty Wasserman Art & Interiors, Ltd. was a natural fit to make their vision a reality.
Upon entering the house, you are immediately drawn to the clean, contemporary space that greets your eye. A curtain wall of glass with sliding doors, along the back of the house, allows everyone to enjoy the harbor views and a calming connection to the outdoors from any vantage point, simultaneously allowing watchful parents to keep an eye on the children in the pool while relaxing indoors. Here, as in all her projects, Betty focused on the interaction between pattern and texture, industrial and organic.

There were some druthers with the kitchen and there was a desire to make certain rooms more grown-up again. Unlike some of our clients who get rid of their formal dining rooms, this family wanted to keep theirs. They saw it as good space for entertaining and doing work – why not make it more stylish and purposeful?
THE REMODEL
Design Objectives
Keep the craftsman style of the home but make it more modern
Update the dining room to be more formal for entertaining and provide storage for china, stemware, wine, etc.
Open up the kitchen to improve flow
Incorporate new decorative lighting throughout the home to accent the home’s style
Transform the staircase into a statement piece that greets visitors – redesign it with arts & crafts details in the balusters, newel posts and handrails
Design Challenges:
Open up the dining room window for more light and a better view of the backyard. The previous window felt closed in with heavy shutters.
Improve kitchen flow without making the footprint larger
Make the entire home feel updated and cohesive while staying true to the house’s style.
THE RENEWED SPACES
We bumped out the dining room window to make a new bay window. The glass mullion design mimics the craftsman style, setting the tone for the room while letting plenty of light in. It really opened up that end of the dining room. The view of the backyard is much bigger now, too. It’s also a great nook for playing board games, doing puzzles and playing with Legos.
We actually got rid of a walk-in pantry that had cut off a corner of the kitchen, and were able to keep all the main walls intact. The old pantry room is where the fridge is now, as well as a tall pantry cabinet, some additional cabinets and a new countertop surface. The flow is much better and it’s roomy now, with a kitchen table that’s great for informal meals, homework and kids seating when adults are entertaining in the dining room.
The cabinet, tile and countertop colors are still neutral but offer a more muted palette. To bring in the craftsman style, simple architectural details were added such as the hood and window valance, decorative furniture toes, a shaker door on the perimeter cabinets and a more modern cabinet door style on the island, pantry and refrigerator areas. New decorative lighting was added in the kitchen, dining room, living room, foyer and second-floor hallway to make the entire first floor feel updated. Also, the entire staircase was revamped. The existing hardwood was kept in place but stained medium brown to bring in some warmth.
“The Drury process made this project turn out better than we imagined,” one of the homeowners told us during the final photoshoot. “There were so many features we didn’t know about – like charging drawers – and ways of going about the remodel that didn’t come to us naturally. We’re so glad Alicia had so much experience and so many checklists. We got to think through everything and arrive at the best possible design for our family.”

The master suite is private with porch access, his and her walk in closets, tile floor in the bath, large dual vanity with knee space, walk in shower, garden tub, toilet closet, and a linen closet. Bedrooms two and three are split, both are on the main level with ceiling fans, and ample closet space. This Desert Mountain gem, nestled in the mountains of Mountain Skyline Village, offers both views for miles and secluded privacy. Multiple glass pocket doors disappear into the walls to reveal the private backyard resort-like retreat. Extensive tiered and integrated retaining walls allow both a usable rear yard and an expansive front entry and driveway to greet guests as they reach the summit. Inside the wine and libations can be stored and shared from several locations in this entertainer’s dream.

The Home
A family heirloom full of warm memories passed down for generations to come greets you after opening the beautiful knotty alder front
door. The rear staircase and separate back entrance allows for multi-generations to share this home.
The Eagles Nest is a place for all to land. The five bedroom, four bath mountain modern plan offers several areas for relaxing and
entertaining. Upon entering, you are welcomed by the warmth of the beams, hickory floors and inviting fireplace. The overall environment gently whispers, “come in, sit down and relax”. The back staircase off the kitchen leads you to a private oasis. The lower level is designed to serve two purposes. It can be a separate living quarter because of its private entrance, or an extension of the house for entertaining.
The open floor plan maximizes square footage for all to enjoy and partake, or for one to find their own quiet space.

The Interior Design
Inspired by nature’s palette and a touch of modern, the Eagles Nest is a calm haven of earth tones and casual elegance. The interior is an inviting blend of subtle neutrals and pops of color, combined with metals, textures, and fine finishes, creating a transitional rustic design. Entertain guests in the large downstairs rec room with a glass of wine at the built-in bar, or take on an opponent with a game of foosball.
The homeowners joined forces with Caprice King at Upstage Furniture Consignments to paint the pallet of the home. Caprice King staged the home with additional furnishings and accessories, lending the home a designer’s touch while utilizing her spatial expertise and attention to detail.

Introducing the Lassen plan at Revere by Blue Mountain Communities - a flexible and customizable 2,526 square foot single-story home designed for your comfort and convenience.

At the heart of the home is an open great room, complete with a cozy fireplace and easy access to the covered patio. The gourmet kitchen, featuring a walk-in pantry, large island with sink and dishwasher, and ample storage space, is perfect for entertaining family and friends. The corner dining room, with windows on three sides, offers a bright and inviting space for meals.
The rear of the home houses the expansive master suite, complete with a luxurious bath featuring dual sinks, a large shower, a free-standing tub, and a walk-in closet.
Adding to the home's square footage and customizability is the three-car tandem garage, which can be converted into a two-car garage with a flex room. This space is perfect for a craft or hobby room, a home gym, or any other space your family needs.
The Lassen plan at Revere offers a blend of flexibility, comfort, and luxury that won't disappoint.

Our clients had just recently closed on their new house in Stapleton and were excited to transform it into their perfect forever home. They wanted to remodel the entire first floor to create a more open floor plan and develop a smoother flow through the house that better fit the needs of their family. The original layout consisted of several small rooms that just weren’t very functional, so we decided to remove the walls that were breaking up the space and restructure the first floor to create a wonderfully open feel.
After removing the existing walls, we rearranged their spaces to give them an office at the front of the house, a large living room, and a large dining room that connects seamlessly with the kitchen. We also wanted to center the foyer in the home and allow more light to travel through the first floor, so we replaced their existing doors with beautiful custom sliding doors to the back yard and a gorgeous walnut door with side lights to greet guests at the front of their home.
Living Room
Our clients wanted a living room that could accommodate an inviting sectional, a baby grand piano, and plenty of space for family game nights. So, we transformed what had been a small office and sitting room into a large open living room with custom wood columns. We wanted to avoid making the home feel too vast and monumental, so we designed custom beams and columns to define spaces and to make the house feel like a home. Aesthetically we wanted their home to be soft and inviting, so we utilized a neutral color palette with occasional accents of muted blues and greens.
Dining Room
Our clients were also looking for a large dining room that was open to the rest of the home and perfect for big family gatherings. So, we removed what had been a small family room and eat-in dining area to create a spacious dining room with a fireplace and bar. We added custom cabinetry to the bar area with open shelving for displaying and designed a custom surround for their fireplace that ties in with the wood work we designed for their living room. We brought in the tones and materiality from the kitchen to unite the spaces and added a mixed metal light fixture to bring the space together
Kitchen
We wanted the kitchen to be a real show stopper and carry through the calm muted tones we were utilizing throughout their home. We reoriented the kitchen to allow for a big beautiful custom island and to give us the opportunity for a focal wall with cooktop and range hood. Their custom island was perfectly complimented with a dramatic quartz counter top and oversized pendants making it the real center of their home. Since they enter the kitchen first when coming from their detached garage, we included a small mud-room area right by the back door to catch everyone’s coats and shoes as they come in. We also created a new walk-in pantry with plenty of open storage and a fun chalkboard door for writing notes, recipes, and grocery lists.
Office
We transformed the original dining room into a handsome office at the front of the house. We designed custom walnut built-ins to house all of their books, and added glass french doors to give them a bit of privacy without making the space too closed off. We painted the room a deep muted blue to create a glimpse of rich color through the french doors
Powder Room
The powder room is a wonderful play on textures. We used a neutral palette with contrasting tones to create dramatic moments in this little space with accents of brushed gold.
Master Bathroom
The existing master bathroom had an awkward layout and outdated finishes, so we redesigned the space to create a clean layout with a dream worthy shower. We continued to use neutral tones that tie in with the rest of the home, but had fun playing with tile textures and patterns to create an eye-catching vanity. The wood-look tile planks along the floor provide a soft backdrop for their new free-standing bathtub and contrast beautifully with the deep ash finish on the cabinetry.

Be greeted by wood accents throughout the first floor as you enter this modern farmhouse designed home located in the heart of Columbus, Ohio. The first floor layout gives you everything you need with an expansive backyard to escape to. Passing the wood slatted accent stair rail leads you upstairs where you'll find a master bedroom with an ensuite bathroom, a large bedroom, a full bathroom, and more stairs! The third floor features more living space as well as a bedroom with a closet.

As you drive from Boucherie Road, you notice an elegant home sat against the beautiful sandy beaches in a mature neighbourhood in the Greenbay area.
Approaching the home you are greeted by the 2500 sq ft of paving stones leading to a classically designed home with rich touches of new ages architecture.

About: Imagine waking up to the sound of crashing waves and feeling the salty breeze on your skin. That's the reality of staying in this stunning cottage, located just one block away from the beach. As soon as you step inside, you're greeted with a beautifully laid-out interior that allows for seamless flow between the kitchen and common spaces on the first floor. And if you think the inside is impressive, wait until you step outside. The pond view from the outdoor seating area is simply breathtaking, and the second-floor master balcony offers a peaceful retreat to take in the beauty of the surrounding area. But the grand outdoor fireplace on the back porch steals the show and is the perfect spot for some evening s'mores with loved ones. This cottage is the epitome of the perfect beach-loving lifestyle.

Our clients wanted a “Colorado” lodge vibe… you know, the feeling of being in the mountains with a flowing stream… So, that’s what we gave them.
When entering the property, you are greeted by a peaceful flowing stream located along the front of the home, and a wooden foot bridge leading to the front door – now that’s curb appeal! Surrounding the rock-lined stream are beds of native plants, grasses, shrub roses for color and seasonal evergreens. The backyard displays a multi-level paver patio, enclosed with a natural stone retaining wall and steps that travel up to the outdoor kitchen, which is set into the home’s fireplace. Also residing in the backyard is a natural stone pool deck, creating a more informal setting.

Walk up to the beautiful private courtyard entrance and the magnificent vista greets you - right at your front door. Your sight line runs through this open-design, modern home to the natural world unfurled before you; lush golf course below, the lake beyond.

This residence represents the dynamic collaboration between artist and architect. The architectural experience seeks to unite the tactile warmth of earth and clay with the compositional elegance of craft. Against a textured canvas of linen and limestone, light is leveraged to bring dimension and life to the architecture on every level.
Through the radical embrace of nature, guests are greeted by a 16’ tall Australian Brachychiton tree as they enter the double-height entry. The home is organized around a large, outdoor courtyard which creates fluid continuity and access between the indoor and outdoors. From a chandelier of ceramic bells to a locally sourced, custom dining table, every major element has been calibrated to add to timeless composition of the home.
