This existing outdoor space was transformed using a mix of new and re-purposed materials. A Ne Trex deck makes better use of the space while keeping maintenance to a minimum. The dry- laidre- purposed blue- stone pavers provide good drainage to reduce standing water and mosquitoes in this urban back yard. The existing mature trees were combined with new plantings of ferns, perennials and vines to add dimension and texture to the outdoor area and soften the lines of the fence. The new seating area is perfect for BBQ'ing and dining al- fresco.

This Town House garden makeover creates a quiet green space in the heart of one of New York's most historic neighborhoods. The use of Natural blue- stone and a palette of different shades of green create a restful space in the middle of the city. Ferns, grasses and trees surrounded by a natural Ipe fence make for a low maintenance garden that is as durable as it is beautiful. Soft lighting and automatic irrigation system round out the design and functionality of this outdoor living space.

Already partially enclosed by an ipe fence and concrete wall, our client had a vision of an outdoor courtyard for entertaining on warm summer evenings since the space would be shaded by the house in the afternoon. He imagined the space with a water feature, lighting and paving surrounded by plants. With our marching orders in place, we drew up a schematic plan quickly and met to review two options for the space. These options quickly coalesced and combined into a single vision for the space. A thick, 60” tall concrete wall would enclose the opening to the street – creating privacy and security, and making a bold statement. We knew the gate had to be interesting enough to stand up to the large concrete walls on either side, so we designed and had custom fabricated by Dennis Schleder (www.dennisschleder.com) a beautiful, visually dynamic metal gate. Other touches include drought tolerant planting, bluestone paving with pebble accents, crushed granite paving, LED accent lighting, and outdoor furniture.
