The design of this 4500sf, home….the steeply-sloping site; we thought of it as a tree house for grownups. Nestled into the hillside and surrounding by Aspens as well as Lodgepole and Ponderosa Pines, this HERS 38 home combines energy efficiency with a strong mountain palette of stone, stucco, and timber to blend with its surroundings.
A strong stone base breaks up the massing of the three-story façade, with an expansive deck establishing a piano noble (elevated main floor) to take full advantage of the property’s amazing views and the owners’ desire for indoor/outdoor living. High ceilings and large windows create a light, spacious entry, which terminates into a custom hickory stair that winds its way to the center of the home. The open floor plan and French doors connect the great room to a gourmet kitchen, dining room, and flagstone patio terraced into the landscaped hillside. Landing dramatically in the great room, a stone fireplace anchors the space, while a wall of glass opens to the soaring covered deck, whose structure was designed to minimize any obstructions to the view.

The plans included a new master suite, expanded laundry room, a powder room, a second-floor multipurpose room, a guest room with bath, and a new basement with a playroom for the boys, an entertaining space for the grownups, and another bathroom and unfinished storage space. Once complete, the home was more than 5,900 square feet. The home’s largest family space is the loft-style multipurpose room on the new second floor. The renovation also includes a fantastic and modern pool and outdoor living area with plenty of space for summer cookouts and entertaining.

Less formal and more comfortable than a living room, and ,more importantly, optimized for family fun and social gatherings—there's a reason the family room is the most popular spot in the house. To ensure that the family room was a space everyone could use and relax in, The Design Firm decorated with grownup accents, kid-friendly colors, and durable staples. The result? A space that is both cozy and timeless, yet fun and contemporary.

Again, to create a space where friends and family—adults and children--can enjoy time together, along with amazing views. The owners can entertain with plein air dining. From this vantage point, one story above the yard, adults can watch as their children play in the pool and yard. Kids can pop up for a snack at the bar or sit down with the grownups for a meal. Built-in heaters in the planked ceiling keep the space comfy.

Extra chunky island posts add drama to this black painted sand-through distressed-finished center island. Countertop is not wood - - it’s poured concrete by JM Lifestyles!! A Sub Zero wine cooler for the grownups is adjacent to a Sub Zero beverage center for the young’uns. Floor is wood-look 8” Italian porcelain, which includes radiant heat.

The "Pirate" tree house in the Children's Garden at Soul Safari™. The tree house was built in 1991 & 1992. The tree house has comfortably slept up to 7 children. It's the perfect spot for lunch or snacks on hot summer days. It's also a great "grownup" (adult) place to read or to just enjoy the "quiet" on a hot summer night. Photo by Landscape Artist: Brett D. This residential kitchen project was performed in conjunction with Legacy Custom Homes/RSD, Frank Ponterio Interiors, and NuHaus/Exclusive
Woodworking.
The goal of this project was to fabricate and install marble slabs in a fashion that mimicked the custom millwork in the rest of this estate home on the
Northshore of Chicago. John Tithof and Jason Cranmer, along with the fabrication production team, executed this project on behalf of Tithof Tile & Marble.
The client wanted the panels to appear as if carved from dimensional stone blocks rather than the classic full height stone backsplash. One of the primary focuses was keeping the client involved through the templating
and layout process to ensure they knew what their project would look like before anything was cut or installed. The evolution of this process has changed in recent years. Gone are the days of blue tape and visualizing the completed job. With the recent introduction of the revolutionary Perfect Match and Slabsmith software programs we have the ability to digitally layout every slab project and create a virtual representation of the project for approval prior to cutting.

Soft colors and fabrics really define this guest bedroom. Soothing for any guest, but with a slight feminine edge. Anchored by solid wood chests, the upholstered bed with nailhead details stands out as you walk down the hallway. Love the lamps with a little crystal added for that flair. Bits of color shine through in the drapery fabric and euro pillow shams.

This artist and her family needed a little room to move. We did an interior remodel project with them two years ago where we created an additional bedroom and remodeled the entry hall. At first the new bedroom functioned as an art studio but soon it became the second bedroom that they needed. So, we added on in the backyard, new construction with a vestibule between the original home and the new space. This artist now has her studio space and the grownups have a living room space to relax in.
