By turning the original staircase, we allowed for this wonderful area to create a music lovers dream space. Custom designed album/CD storage houses the owner's massive collection perfectly. Cubby for the Sonos system, and a custom height for the turntable, allows for a perfect audio setup.

Recital: Given its contemporary an authentic nature, the color copper is becoming increasingly popular in interior decoration The understatement of white coordinated with the warm copper-colored lace has an appealing contrast. The use of planks as a headboard and vintage books at the foot of the bed are an inexpensive and unique approach to design.

This fabulous foyer complete with decorative iron railing and beautiful arched wooden door is a great place to welcome guests. A neutral color pallet of beige and gold is warm and inviting. The sophisticated chandelier lights the room and completes the look of luxury.

An 8x14 Studio Shed - a great length for a long and narrow space. There is a music recording studio at one end and a desk for office work and crafts at the other.

This project, an extensive remodel and addition to an existing modern residence high above Silicon Valley, was inspired by dominant images and textures from the site: boulders, bark, and leaves. We created a two-story addition clad in traditional Japanese Shou Sugi Ban burnt wood siding that anchors home and site. Natural textures also prevail in the cosmetic remodeling of all the living spaces. The new volume adjacent to an expanded kitchen contains a family room and staircase to an upper guest suite.
The original home was a joint venture between Min | Day as Design Architect and Burks Toma Architects as Architect of Record and was substantially completed in 1999. In 2005, Min | Day added the swimming pool and related outdoor spaces. Schwartz and Architecture (SaA) began work on the addition and substantial remodel of the interior in 2009, completed in 2015.

MODERN HEIRLOOM
A historic house, eclectically reimagined.
DESIGN DESCRIPTION
The original Victorian details of this home are preserved and paired with a collected, modern sensibility. The story begins in the foyer, where encaustic tile, oak panelling and stained glass are warmed by coral grasscloth. A grand oak staircase, dressed in a striped runner beneath a sculptural brass chandelier, rises to a stained-glass window seat. In the dining room, a lacquered teal ceiling and botanical wallpaper crown chartreuse velvet chairs and a glowing smoked-glass chandelier. The living room plays jewel-toned velvets and sculptural pieces against carved plaster and leaded glass, while the powder room makes a bold statement in graphic tile and an ornate silver mirror. Upstairs, the palette softens to luminous white. In the bedroom, a wall of antiqued mirror glows above sumptuous linen beside a carved oak mantel. In the bathroom, an antique oak sideboard has been reborn as a vanity, set beside a sculptural soaking tub and Calacatta marble. Throughout the home, richness is balanced with restraint, and heritage with quiet luxury.

A full size bocce ball court invites to an outdoor game. The shaded bluestone patio allows guests to watch in comfort. The adjacent tennis court is partially hidden by a tall hedge.
