We were excited to take on this full home remodel with our Arvada clients! They have been living in their home for years, and were ready to delve into some major construction to make their home a perfect fit. This home had a lot of its original 1970s features, and we were able to work together to make updates throughout their home to make it fit their more modern tastes. But the second floor wasn’t left out, we also updated their carpet with a subtle patterned grey beauty that tied in with the colors we utilized on the first floor. New taller baseboards throughout their entire home also helped to unify the spaces and brought the update full circle. One of the most dramatic changes we made was to take down all of the original wood railings and replace them custom steel railings. Our goal was to design a staircase that felt lighter and created less of a visual barrier between spaces. We painted the existing stringer a crisp white, and to balance out the cool steel finish, we opted for a wooden handrail. We also replaced the original carpet wrapped steps with dark wooden steps that coordinate with the finish of the handrail. Lighting has a major impact on how we feel about the space we’re in, and we took on this home’s lighting problems head on. By adding recessed lighting to the family room, and replacing all of the light fixtures on the first floor we were able to create more even lighting throughout their home as well as add in a few fun accents in the dining room and stairwell. To update the fireplace in the family room we replaced the original mantel with a dark solid wood beam to clean up the lines of the fireplace. We also replaced the original mirrored gold doors with a more contemporary dark steel finished to help them blend in better. The clients also wanted to tackle their powder room, and already had a beautiful new vanity selected, so we were able to design the rest of the space around it. Our favorite touch was the new accent tile installed from floor to ceiling behind the vanity adding a touch of texture and a clear focal point to the space. This full home renovation consisted of making significant structural modifications to the stairs, rearranging the first level floor plan to create a larger kitchen and two bedrooms, rewiring non-code compliant/hazardous electrical work and adding multiple recessed lights, installing uniform doors and hardware throughout, custom barn-door installation, refinishing hardwood floors, installing a new kitchen tile floor, and finishing the basement with a new drywall ceiling, waterproof vinyl flooring, drywall repair and painting. Stair Modification: Removal of unsafe stairs to the basement and to the attic. Relocation of the two flights of stairs to the basement and the attic 180 degrees with code compliant stairs.

One design challenge was incorporating the client’s desire for a white kitchen with the warm tones of the travertine flooring. The rich walnut tone in the island cabinetry helped to tie in the tile flooring. This added contrast, warmth, and cohesiveness to the overall design and complemented the transitional coastal theme in the adjacent spaces. Rooms alight with sunshine, sheathed in soft, watery hues are indicative of coastal decorating. A few essential style elements will conjure the coastal look with its casual beach attitude and renewing seaside energy, even if the shoreline is only in your mind's eye. By adding two new windows, all-white cabinets, and light quartzite countertops, the kitchen is now open and bright. Brass accents on the hood, cabinet hardware and pendant lighting added warmth to the design. Blue accent rugs and chairs complete the vision, complementing the subtle grey ceramic backsplash and coastal blues in the living and dining rooms. New doors, new flooring, new cabinets and we removed the tub. You will also notice that we removed the toilet room doors and widened the opening. We added several hand bars for stability. The shower has no curb to make it easy to get into without the tripping hazard. Hand bars strategically place for an aid to balance.

Raza and Baneen purchased their home in Schaumburg IL. knowing it needed work, but they saw the incredible potential it had with its expanse of beautiful kitchen windows and spacious floor plan. The kitchen technically functioned fine, but was desperately outdated with its honey oak cabinets and plain countertops. This family loved to cook and host parties so it was an easy decision that the kitchen remodel was the first project they needed to tackle to make their home come to life. Baneen had very specific ideas for her new dream kitchen and had been thinking about it for over 10 years! The couple loves the “galley” prep sink, it adds even more functionality and significantly shortens preparation and cleaning time. This island also includes a 24" Bosch Dishwasher with matching panel to blend in. "Aesthetically, and in terms of functionality, the island everything I imagined," Baneen said. "I love how beautiful it looks and how functional it is. It just brings everybody together." The Praa Sands Quartz countertop with an ogee edge profile provides excellent contrast by blending it's subtle tones with the outer cabinetry. It ties the island together with the rest of the space. A certified chimney inspection in Illinois is one of the key ‘to-do’s’ for the holidays. The last thing you need are a bunch of complaints because it’s too cold. There’s a cold draft coming from the fireplace. Or the fire is nice and warm, but the kids playing are starting to cough because there’s a backup of smoke coming into the home. Now you have to open the windows and everyone is cold again. There are enough stresses the host must deal with, do we need to add another one? What is a Certified Chimney Inspection? According to the CSIA, a certified chimney inspection is an evaluation of the chimney or venting system to assess its condition and determine if it’s fit for use. Superior Chimney is certified by the CSIA to perform chimney inspections and chimney sweeps as well. What this means for you is that our technicians are trained to adhere to the NFPA 211 standard which states that the chimney and venting systems are to be inspected each year regardless if it’s a woodburning gas or unused fireplace and chimney. Chimney Inspection Levels A Level 1 inspection is the minimum required. How do you know this one is for you? A certified chimney inspection is when you have your chimney swept and inspected each year. Nothing has changed, you use it (or don’t use it) any differently than in the past. A Level 2 inspection is when a change has been made to your system. This can include a change in the type of fuel being used such as changing over from gas to woodburning or from not using the fireplace to using it even if it is only once per year. Another change can also be the change to the shape of the flue or you had a new flue lining installed which is different that what you had prior. A Level 2 is also necessary if you sold your home or if there’s been a tornado, bad storms or those (once in a few years) earthquakes. Level 3 inspection is for more serious hazards and issues. The normal technician tools won’t do and they need special tools in order to inspect closed out portions that can’t be viewed easily. Reason for a Yearly Inspection… One of the main reason your chimney and fireplace needs an inspection…regardless if you use the fireplace or not…is the winter freeze thaw cycles. This is when the air temperature drops to 32 degrees or below to freeze the rain and/or snow and then goes right back up in temperature for the rain and/or snow to thaw. As we have all experienced, winter and early spring are the perfect times of year to experience the freeze thaw cycle.
