From the street, it’s an impeccably designed English manor. Once inside, the best of that same storied architecture seamlessly meshes with modernism. This blend of styles was exactly the vibe three-decades-running Houston homebuilder Chris Sims, founder and CEO of Sims Luxury Builders, wanted to convey with the $5.2 million show-home in Houston’s coveted Tanglewood neighborhood. “Our goal was to uniquely combine classic and Old World with clean and modern in both the architectural design as well as the interior finishes,” Chris says.
Their aesthetic inspiration is clearly evident in the 8,000-square-foot showcase home’s luxurious gourmet kitchen. It is an exercise in grey and white—and texture. To achieve their vision, the Sims turned to Cantoni. “We had a wonderful experience working with Cantoni several years ago on a client’s home, and were pleased to repeat that success on this project,” Chris says.
Cantoni designer Amy McFall, who was tasked with designing the kitchen, promptly took to the home’s beauty. Situated on a half-acre corner lot with majestic oak trees, it boasts simplistic and elegant interiors that allow the detailed architecture to shine. The kitchen opens directly to the family room, which holds a brick wall, beamed ceilings, and a light-and-bright stone fireplace. The generous space overlooks the outdoor pool. With such a large area to work with, “we needed to give the kitchen its own, intimate feel,” Amy says.
To that end, Amy integrated dark grey, high-gloss lacquer cabinetry from our Atelier Collection. by Aster Cucine with dark grey oak cabinetry, mixing finishes throughout to add depth and texture. Edginess came by way of custom, heavily veined Calacatta Viola marble on both the countertops and backsplash.
The Sims team, meanwhile, insured the layout lent itself to minimalism. “With the inclusion of the scullery and butler’s pantry in the design, we were able to minimize the storage needed in the kitchen itself,” Chris says. “This allowed for the clean, minimalist cabinetry, giving us the creative freedom to go darker with the cabinet color and really make a bold statement in the home.”
It was exactly the look they wanted—textural and interesting. “The juxtaposition of ultra-modern kitchen cabinetry and steel windows set against the textures of the wood floors, interior brick, and trim detailing throughout the downstairs provided a fresh take on blending classic and modern,” Chris says. “We’re thrilled with the result—it is showstopping.”
They were equally thrilled with the design process. “Amy was incredibly responsive, helpful and knowledgeable,” Chris says. “It was a pleasure working with her and the entire Cantoni team.”

These laminated wall panels can look just like tile - but there's actually no grout joints. They are 3/8" thick panels backed by a marine grade plywood which are waterproof and actually can be used in any shower, tub or wet room application. These high gloss panels come in white, like blue and a sea glass color.

We juxtaposed bold colors and contemporary furnishings with the early twentieth-century interior architecture for this four-level Pacific Heights Edwardian. The home's showpiece is the living room, where the walls received a rich coat of blackened teal blue paint with a high gloss finish, while the high ceiling is painted off-white with violet undertones. Against this dramatic backdrop, we placed a streamlined sofa upholstered in an opulent navy velour and companioned it with a pair of modern lounge chairs covered in raspberry mohair. An artisanal wool and silk rug in indigo, wine, and smoke ties the space together.

Ready to start a family, the owners began this project with the hope of correcting problems from previous renovations, while looking to gain an open kitchen, upstairs bedrooms and a carport with storage.
The recipe for fixing low ceilings and a dead-end kitchen, low ceilings was a two-story addition to the rear that features a double-height ceiling, great room, open staircase and a small mudroom at the back.
Interior finishes were selected to compliment the home’s original feel while exterior elements like cedar shingles, brackets and a tall window wall create an inviting facade for the family’s entrance and connects the interior with views to the backyard.

This traditionally styled kitchen showcases a refined blend of timeless design and modern functionality. Richly detailed cabinetry offers a polished and elegant appearance, reflecting light to enhance the room's spaciousness. The central island, anchored by a custom-fabricated metal base, provides a striking contrast to the warm cabinetry while offering ample workspace and integrated storage. Overhead, classic lighting fixtures complete the sophisticated ambiance of the space.
One of the most distinctive features of the kitchen is the sliding backsplash system, which reveals concealed storage or spice niches behind beautifully crafted panels. This thoughtful detail merges form and function, maintaining clean sightlines while maximizing utility. Adding to the intrigue, the bar area is equipped with hidden doors that open seamlessly to reveal beverage storage including a paneled ice maker and glassware, blending discreetly into the surrounding millwork for a sleek, uninterrupted design and a true bar setup.
The overall layout is designed for both everyday use and entertaining. Precision craftsmanship is evident in every corner— from the seamless cabinetry transitions to the integrated appliances and refined trim work. Every element is considered, from the durable finishes to the subtle mix of traditional and modern details offering a culinary environment that is as inspiring as it is efficient.
Tucked just beyond the main kitchen, the butler’s pantry extends the workspace with additional cabinetry, countertop surfaces, high gloss cabinets, and hidden appliances, perfect for staging, prep work, or entertaining. Designed with continuity in mind, the pantry mirrors the kitchen’s traditional elegance and high-end finishes while offering discreet utility. This area underscores the home’s attention to detail, functionality, and a thoughtful approach to transitional spaces.

Walk-in shower - large contemporary kids' gray tile and porcelain tile porcelain tile, gray floor and single-sink walk-in shower idea in Tampa with flat-panel cabinets, blue cabinets, a one-piece toilet, white walls, an undermount sink, quartz countertops, a hinged shower door, white countertops, a niche and a built-in vanity

This European kitchen has several different areas and functions. Each area has its own specific details but are tied together with distinctive farmhouse feel, created by combining medium wood and white cabinetry, different styles of cabinetry, mixed metals, warm, earth toned tile floors, blue granite countertops and a subtle blue and white backsplash. The hand-hammered copper counter on the peninsula ties in with the hammered copper farmhouse sink. The blue azul granite countertops have a deep layer of texture and beautifully play off the blue and white Italian tile backsplash and accent wall. The high gloss black hood was custom-made and has chrome banding. The French Lacanche stove has soft gold controls. This kitchen also has radiant heat under its earth toned limestone floors. A special feature of this kitchen is the wood burning stove. Part of the original 1904 house, we repainted it and set it on a platform. We made the platform a cohesive part of the space defining wall by using a herringbone pattern trim, fluted porcelain tile and crown moulding with roping. The office area’s built in desk and cabinets provide a convenient work and storage space. Topping the room off is a coffered ceiling.
In this classic English Tudor home located in Penn Valley, PA, we renovated the kitchen, mudroom, deck, patio, and the exterior walkways and driveway. The European kitchen features high end finishes and appliances, and heated floors for year-round comfort! The outdoor areas are spacious and inviting. The open trellis over the hot tub provides just the right amount of shelter. These clients were referred to us by their architect, and we had a great time working with them to mix classic European styles in with contemporary, current spaces.
