A DEANE client returned in 2022 for an update to their kitchen remodel project from 2006. This incredible transformation was driven by the desire to create a glamorous space for entertaining. Taking the space that used to be an office, walls were taken down to allow the new bar and tasting table to be integrated into the kitchen and living area. A climate-controlled glass wine cabinet with knurled brass handles elegantly displays bottles and defines the space while still allowing it to feel light and airy. The bar boasts door-style “wave” cabinets in high-gloss black lacquer that seamlessly conceal beverage and bottle storage drawers and an ice maker. The open shelving with integrated LED lighting and satin brass edging anchor the marble countertop.

We undertook a complete gut renovation and redesign of our client’s home while they enjoyed their summer residence. Working six days a week, we ensured the project was finished in time for their return to Palm Beach for the winter season. Every design detail was meticulously curated to reflect their unique style and needs. When they arrived for the big reveal, they were thrilled to discover a stunning, entirely transformed home tailored specifically for them.

One of our primary goals in this project was to change how our clients moved through their home. We tossed aside the existing walls that blocked off the kitchen and introduced a butler’s pantry to connect the kitchen directly to the dining room. Contrast is king in this home, and we utilized a variety of light and dark finishes to create distinctive layers and lean into opportunities for accents. To tie the space in this home together, we introduced warm hardwood flooring throughout the main level and selected a soft grey paint as our primary wall color. Kitchen- The heart of this home is most definitely the kitchen! We erased every trace of the original builder kitchen and created a space that welcomes one and all. The glorious island, with its light cabinetry and dramatic quartz countertop, provides the perfect gathering place for morning coffee and baking sessions. At the perimeter of the kitchen, we selected a handsome grey finish with a brushed linen effect for an extra touch of texture that ties in with the high variation backsplash tile giving us a softened handmade feel. Black metal accents from the hardware to the light fixtures unite the kitchen with the rest of the home. Butler’s Pantry- The Butler’s Pantry quickly became one of our favorite spaces in this home! We had fun with the backsplash tile patten (utilizing the same tile we highlighted in the kitchen but installed in a herringbone pattern). Continuing the warm tones through this space with the butcher block counter and open shelving, it works to unite the front and back of the house. Plus, this space is home to the kegerator with custom family tap handles! Mud Room- We wanted to make sure we gave this busy family a landing place for all their belongings. With plenty of cabinetry storage, a sweet built-in bench, and hooks galore there’s no more jockeying to find a home for coats. Fireplace- A double-sided fireplace means double the opportunity for a dramatic focal point! On the living room side (the tv-free grown-up zone) we utilized reclaimed wooden planks to add layers of texture and bring in more cozy warm vibes. On the family room side (aka the tv room) we mixed it up with a travertine ledger stone that ties in with the warm tones of the kitchen island. Staircase- The standard builder handrail was just not going to do it anymore! So, we leveled up designed a custom steel & wood railing for this home with a dark finish that allows it to contrast beautifully against the walls and tie in with the dark accent finishes throughout the home.

This client returned to our designers after buying a lakehouse that needed major remodeling. Their cabinetry, countertop and backsplash choices were nearly identical to the kitchen we designed and installed for them three years ago. Their choices were timeless with high-end brands such as Sub-Zero, Wolf, Cove for the appliances, R. D. Henry cabinetry, The Galley Workstation and Tap, Oskar collection hardware from Atlas, and exquisite quartzite.

This client from Nantwich had a beautiful Travertine tiled floor installed in their very large kitchen and utility area. Realising that their tiles didn’t look as good as when they were installed, they got in touch to ask if I could clean and re-seal the tiles and grouting. I went over to survey the floor and could see the grout had darkened (it was originally white) and the travertine was trapping dirt in the natural pits of the stone. I conducted a test clean on the grout and Travertine which responded well, the client was impressed, and I was asked to do the whole floor. Happy with my quote for restoring the tile and grout we scheduled a date to do the work. Nantwich is a medieval market town in Cheshire, well known for its Tudor and Georgian architecture. It has one of the highest concentrations of listed buildings in England and many of these properties have very old floors. We scheduled in a date for the work, and I began by cleaning the floor with a strong solution of Tile Doctor Remove and Go worked into the grout and pitting with hand brushes. I then used a wire brush on the grout to get it really clean. The soiled solution was rinsed off with water and extracted with a wet vacuum. Once done the Travertine was burnished using a series of Tile Doctor burnishing pads from 400 through to 1500-grit attached to the rotary machine, rinsing with water in between to remove the soiling. The pads are encrusted with diamond and after being worked over each pad three times do an amazing job of removing ingrained dirt and bringing up the polish on the stone. The floor needs to be dry before I can apply the sealer so once the burnishing was done, I gave it a final finish and extracted as much moisture as possible with the wet vacuum. The Travertine was left to dry off overnight and I returned the next day to apply a sealer, first checking the floor was dry with a damp meter. The readings were acceptable, so I was able to get on with the sealing. My client had requested a natural finish, so I had recommended Tile Doctor Ultra-Seal which is almost invisible sealer that provides protection but doesn’t change the look of the stone. Only a couple of coats are required and being an impregnating sealer, it works by soaking into stone and occupying the pores so dirt can’t become ingrained there. Once the sealer had dried the floor looked so much cleaner and I had a very happy customer who left the following feedback: “Kamilla has totally transformed our tumbled travertine kitchen floor. It looks like new again, we are so pleased. Kamilla explained the whole process and was a pleasure to deal with. We are delighted with the end result, Kamilla worked so hard, would highly recommend.” For aftercare cleaning and maintenance, I recommended they use Tile Doctor Stone Soap which is pH neutral and mild enough to use every day. After sitting on the market for three years, this property was purchased by a visionary client who understood that the right landscape designer could turn the unusable landscape into highly comfortable outdoor spaces. db Landscaping LLC designed a series of tiered outdoor living spaces, gardens, and access to the lake that responded to the steep lakeshore terrain of the property. Larger areas for entertaining were complimented by smaller, more intimate spaces for relaxing. The new landscape incorporated lake views and water access while utilizing environmentally responsible materials such as aged local stone and drought tolerant native plants. Storm-water runoff was also engineered to mitigate erosion and allow water to return to the ground rather than entering the lake directly. The resulting outdoor rooms and gardens were balanced, relaxing, and in harmony with the surrounding landscape.

HOM. added reclaimed wooden beams from nearby Barns. HOM. added Large Original Art Pieces that were interpretations of the Rocks in the nearby Stream running through their Property. HOM. added multi-functional seating. More Dramatic Lighting. Accessories that were personal but did not over “ooze” the Lake idea. It became a Personal HOM. A HOM. they wanted, “At the Lake”. When the Family returned from Tokyo for a Thanksgiving Gathering, all were stunned. They now had, at last, a HOM. “At the Lake”. Two Years later... One of the daughters was getting married. You know by now we love designing in Bend, and Caldera Springs just feels like home! This project, (a collaboration with Olsen Bros. Construction and Heidi Byrnes Design) is the “forever home” for a couple relocating from Lake Oswego. Soaring wood ceilings, open living spaces and ample bedroom suites informed the client’s classic/modern finish choices. The furnishings aesthetic began with fabric to inspire pattern and color, and the story for each room unfolded from there. The great room is dressed in deep green, rust and cream, reflecting the natural palette outside every door and window. A pair of plush sofas large enough to nap on, swivel chairs to take in the view, and unique leather ottomans to tuck in where needed, invite lounging and conversation. The primary and back guest suites offer the most incredible window seats for cozying up with your favorite book. Layered with custom cushions and a pile of pillows, they’re the best seat in the house. Exciting wallpaper selections for each bathroom provided playful focal walls, from the deep green vinyl grass cloth in the primary bath, to a forest of sparkling tree lines in the powder bath. Amazing how wallpaper can define the personality of a space! This home is full of color, yet minimal in the “extras” and easy to maintain. It’s always refreshing for us to return to a home we dressed months ago and have it look just like we left it! This young family was ready for a new, fresh and updated look to their house. They wanted a totally different color scheme and vibe and needed it finished within 6 weeks to be ready for a party of 100+ people they were hosting. I was happy to help! Even though many items that were selected were on back order and needed to be replaced, they kept their spirits high after countless returns and exchanges. Although art was being framed a day before the party and decor was being installed at the last minute, we pulled it together and accomplished our goal of finishing on time! The easiest (and most cost effective!) way to change the feeling of a space is with color, so that’s what I did. I swapped out the tired burgundy/browns for a clean palette of blues and greys. In the family room, a new custom sectional in a neutral grey took place of the brown leatherette sofa. A blue accent chair was placed in the room to brighten that corner. Patterned drapes were hung for privacy and added texture. Colorful artwork and a Moroccan print area rug livened up the space. Many of the accessories and decor throughout the home were sourced at Home Goods, Target and Ikea. The only piece of furniture that was kept in the entire home was the dining table, chairs and bar stools. The head chairs were swapped out for swanky upholstered navy ones with a nail head trim. A custom cornice to match the chairs was installed in the kitchen to hide the existing roller shades. The bar stools were reupholstered in the same fabric and some throw pillows for the sofa were made in the navy velvet as well. A Z Gallerie chandelier and blue pendants were installed for a little added drama. The fireplace got a makeover with a fresh coat of white paint and tile mosaic. Their daughter wanted a beach theme bedroom, so that’s what she got! New blue walls, drapes and accessories brought the ocean to this room. Their son has taken a liking to super heroes and Legos. A red, blue and yellow color palette with bold stripes helped to create a fun, playful space for him to enjoy his Legos and super heroes. The master bedroom got a new look with updated furnishings and colorful, yet soothing, bedding. New drapes, an area rug and accessories help pull together this peaceful sanctuary. The bathroom got a makeover with a new vanity, tile mosaic back splash, new lighting and tile on the floor and shower.

I recently re-visited a Victorian period property in the Leeds suburb of Headingley which had an unusually large tiled entrance hall which we believe to be as old as the property itself. I say re-visited as I actually gave this floor a deep clean and reseal around five years ago; it’s always nice to be asked to return to a job as it shows the customers was very happy with the work. However, with five years of wear and tear the sealer had worn down and the floor was now starting to trap dirt, also it had lost the attractive shine added by the sealer and the owner felt it was time to have it done again. Additionally, the owner had recently had the whole house decorated and wanted the floor to look its best and match the fresh appearance of the property. Sealers do wear off with use and so it is inevitable that the tiles will need to be cleaned and sealed again with time. Given it hadn’t had a professional clean and seal for five years the floor wasn’t looking too bad as you can see from the picture, it was just a bit dull in the high traffic areas such as along the centre. I’ve certainly seen a lot worse. Initially I wasn’t 100% sure on which cleaning method l was going to use on this floor. Originally l thought about using a coarse 200-grit burnishing pad to take off a couple of layers of sealer and then re-apply 2 more coats. However, the finish on the floor wasn’t even across the width of the hallway and l felt using that approach wouldn’t resolve that. Additionally, a lot of tiles were pitted and a burnishing pad would struggle to get into the holes. So instead I decided to completely strip the floor and re-seal it which would ensure a uniform finish across the floor. I used a strong 50:50 dilution of Tile Doctor Pro-Clean on the tiles and scrubbed it in with a black floor pad which removed the old sealer and ingrained dirt. The large floor pads are not very effective in the corners and edges, so I used a 6-inch red buffing pad fitted to a hand buffer for those. The floor was rinsed with water and the soil extracted using a wet vacuum. After inspecting the floor some areas were retreated with a repeat of the same process. After a final rinse and extraction of the soiled water the floor was left to dry overnight. The next day after first checking the floor was dry with a damp meter it was sealed with four coats of Tile Doctor Seal and Go. This is a water based sealer that gives a lovely sheen and allows the colours to shine through as well as letting the floor breath, which is important in properties of this age that usually do not have a damp proof membrane. I was very pleased with the finished result as the pictures show and glad that l had chosen to do a deep clean and not just apply more coats of sealer. The client was over the moon.
