This powder room serves as a bold, immersive jewelry box within the home, where texture and heritage take center stage. A monolithic marble vanity provides a sense of architectural weight and permanence, anchored by a vibrant, geometric wallcovering that pulses with rich terracotta and obsidian tones.
The play of light from the sculptural sconce and the backlit mirror creates a dramatic, atmospheric glow, highlighting the depth of the pattern. It is a space that feels both modern and deeply storied - a small but significant moment of celebratory design that invites pause and reflection.
Colorful Jewel Toned powder room.

This primary bathroom is a study in sculptural modern luxury.
Wrapped in warm bronze-toned mosaic tile that extends seamlessly from wall to ceiling, the space feels immersive and architectural. The softly curved ceiling detail adds movement and depth, creating a cocoon-like atmosphere that elevates the entire room. Floating charcoal vanities with fluted drawer fronts introduce texture and rhythm, while matte black vessel sinks and a marble slab countertop bring a sharp, tailored contrast.
Sculptural pendant lighting hangs in front of a statement mirror, casting a warm, layered glow that enhances the metallic tones and adds dimension. The glass-enclosed shower in the background maintains the clean, contemporary lines while reinforcing the spa-inspired feel.
Bold yet refined, this primary bathroom blends dramatic materiality with modern precision, resulting in a moody, high-end retreat designed for both impact and serenity.

The powder room as a moment of pure personality. A sweeping landscape wallpaper in watercolor greens and creams wraps every wall, turning a small space into an immersive experience. A sculptural organic-form walnut mirror and paired frosted glass sconces complete a room that surprises and delights — exactly as a powder room should.

The guest powder bathroom was transformed into a jewel-box moment through the use of a fully wrapped wallpaper surround, creating an immersive and memorable experience for guests. Rich texture, pattern, and carefully layered finishes add depth and sophistication, while elegant fixtures and curated accessories enhance the room's elevated feel. By embracing bold design within a smaller footprint, the space delivers maximum impact and personality. The result is a beautifully tailored powder bath that feels luxurious, distinctive, and perfectly aligned with the custom details carried throughout the rest of the home.

Our Music Lounge is located on the second floor of a stunning 100+ year-old Tudor-style residence in Hartford, CT—part of the 2025 Junior League of Hartford Designer Show House. When designing the space, we set out to celebrate Connecticut-based female artists. The room began with two key elements: a leafy, organic grasscloth wallpaper by Goshen artist Sarah Von Dreele, and an original painting titled Torch Singer by West Hartford’s Sandy Welch. Sandy’s portrait became the driving inspiration behind the color palette and the mood of the room.
The woman in the painting feels completely at ease—confident, expressive, and immersed in the music. We envisioned a well-traveled couple living here, wanting this space to evoke a cozy Parisian café tucked within their historic home—a moody, romantic retreat layered with stories. Most evenings, we imagine them here, unwinding to vintage records on the gramophone, sipping bourbon hot toddies by candlelight, and dreaming up their next overseas adventure. The room is intimate, eclectic, and richly layered—evoking nostalgia, warmth, and quiet indulgence. If cigarettes were still in fashion, this would be the room to lean back, light up, and lose track of time.

Built on a steep lakeside terrain, the Tsuga residence by Appareil Architecture is an ambitious project that required meticulous planning and flawless execution. Nestled within the rugged landscapes of Brownsburg-Chatham, Tsuga elevates a complex site to offer a seamless immersion in nature. Balancing the site’s constraints with a high level of finish, every phase of the project was designed to reconcile technical challenges with precision. Modulor expertly managed all collaborators, ensuring a level of detail that defines a project of this scale.
On the exterior, the building envelope combines durability with refinement. Carefully selected natural wood cladding interacts with a perforated screen that filters light and adds depth to the façade. The integration of openings was strategically planned to maximize views while maintaining a cohesive architectural expression.
Inside, the materials and finishes reflect the same commitment to quality. Wooden paneling wraps the spaces, creating visual continuity and a warm atmosphere. The stainless steel kitchen, with its clean lines and custom design, introduces a striking contrast between modernity and natural textures. Every junction, every material transition was meticulously crafted to ensure a flawless result, with no compromises on durability or functionality.
Designed for an architectural historian and a musician and opera singer, Tsuga is the result of meticulous craftsmanship. A home built to stand the test of time, with an unwavering attention to detail.

The basement is designed as a warm, immersive retreat that blends eclectic design with spa-like tranquility and hidden entertainment spaces. The overall palette centers around warm natural woods, matte black accents, and layered moody lighting, creating a cozy yet sophisticated atmosphere throughout the space.
The main living area features a comfortable lounge zone anchored by a fireplace, with plush seating, textured rugs, and low, ambient lighting to create a relaxed, intimate vibe. Built-in shelving in dark wood with black metal details adds visual interest and provides space for books, art, and curated décor. The lighting plan emphasizes dim, warm, and indirect sources—wall sconces, concealed LED strips, and table lamps—to keep the environment calm and atmospheric rather than bright and open.
One side of the basement transitions into a Zen-inspired spa retreat. This area uses lighter warm woods and natural stone elements to create contrast while maintaining harmony with the rest of the basement. The spa includes:
A glass-front sauna with slatted cedar walls and soft backlighting
A cold plunge tub with dark stone or concrete surround
Minimalist fixtures in matte black
Subtle greenery and natural textures to reinforce the calming, restorative feel
The spa zone should feel like a boutique wellness retreat tucked inside the home—clean, quiet, and intentionally minimal.
A unique feature of the basement is a hidden “man cave” lounge accessed through a secret door disguised as a built-in shelving unit. When opened, it reveals a darker, more intimate room designed for entertaining or unwinding. This space uses rich two-tone walls in deep warm hues—such as charcoal paired with dark walnut or oxblood—along with low lighting and heavier textures. The room could include a bar area, media setup, leather seating, and subtle accent lighting to enhance the clandestine, speakeasy-like atmosphere.
Overall, the basement should feel layered, cozy, slightly mysterious, and luxurious, balancing relaxation, wellness, and entertainment in a way that feels cohesive but full of discovery.
