Earth, fire, wind and water are elemental to our existence. When asked to create an outdoor shower for a former woodshop-turned-residence, we looked to the elements of nature to construct a bathing space that respects its environment and crafts an experience. We turned to the forest, the boundary upon which the shower is placed, and allowed nature to dictate our material palette. Using wood in many forms, we created a cedar wind and privacy screen, a board formed concrete wall, and tied it all together with a custom-steel framed cordwood. The result is an immersive, sensorial bathing experience within nature.

This dining area by James McNeal Architecture & Design (JMAD) exemplifies seamless indoor-outdoor living, where expansive sliding glass doors open to a covered patio with a stone fireplace and lounge seating. The vaulted ceiling with exposed wood beams adds warmth and architectural character, while oversized windows flood the space with natural light and views of the surrounding landscape. Rich textures—like velvet dining chairs and a patterned rug—layer comfort into the clean-lined architecture. This design highlights how thoughtful open-concept planning and large window systems can transform everyday spaces into immersive, light-filled environments.

The elevator landing in this connoisseur’s home has been turned into a uniquely inviting environment for artistic contemplation thanks to the extraordinary creativity of two top-level antique Persian village and court rugs. The extremely refined, ethereal coloration of the masterful small Tabriz from the esteemed Hadji Jallili (Haji Jalili) workshop on the floor is redoubled in impact by the similarly virtuoso palette of the singular Ferahan displayed on a wall. Each shares exquisite tones of sapphire blue, warm terracotta and apricot that are rarely encountered in either style. Glowing, time-softened patina and the entrancing effect of exceptionally subtle abrash (artfully executed color striation) magnifies the dynamic relationship between the two art rugs for a delightfully immersive effect.

A spa-inspired bathroom that blends luxury and minimalism. Full-height stone slabs wrap the space, creating a seamless and immersive environment. A freestanding soaking tub is positioned as a focal point beneath architectural lighting, while floating vanities and sleek fixtures enhance the clean, modern design. The result is a calming retreat with a refined, high-end feel.

This avant-garde space brilliantly merges sculptural art with functional design. The intricately patterned wall dividers lend a touch of raw dynamism, complemented by sleek furnishings and understated hues. The result is a harmonious blend of modern minimalism with tactile artistry, creating an unparalleled aesthetic experience.

This photo highlights the deck of the Harmony House Extension, emphasizing its harmonious integration with the natural landscape. The deck features extensive use of wood, stone, and other natural materials, creating a seamless connection with the surrounding trees. The design ensures that the deck feels like a natural extension of the landscape, enhancing the occupants' immersion in the serene, wooded environment.

This area was for music listening and relaxing. Our client was a true audiophile and wanted to immerse himself into a theater environment while keeping the aesthetic of the rest of the space. Our approach was to build an incredible foundation for a dedicated theater using some the world's best speakers and amplifiers; then compliment the home with acoustically treated pictures and audio panels. The outcome was placing audio exactly where is should be for the listener with no reflective sound where it shouldn't be. The experience was incredibly accurate and produced one of the best systems we have heard to date.

Submerse yourself in a serene bath environment and enjoy solitude as your reward. Select the most inviting and luxurious materials to create a relaxing space that rejuvenates as it soothes and calms. Coordinating bath furniture from Dura Supreme brings all the details together with your choice of beautiful styles and finishes. Mirrored doors in the linen cabinet make small spaces look expansive and add a convenient full-length mirror into the bathroom. Two tall linen cabinets in this two-tone bathroom add vast amounts of storage to the small space while adding beauty to the room. The “Cashew” gray stain on the linen cabinets match the undertones of the Heritage Paint finish and at a beautifully dramatic contrast to the design. This sublime bathroom features Dura Supreme’s “Style Four” furniture series. Style Four offers 10 different configurations (for single sink vanities, double sink vanities, or offset sinks), and multiple decorative toe options to coordinate vanities and linen cabinets. A matching mirror complements the vanity design. Over time, a well-loved painted furniture piece will show distinctive signs of wear and use. Each chip and dent tells a story of its history through layers of paint. With its beautifully aged surface and chipped edges, Dura Supreme’s Heritage Paint collection, shown on this bathroom vanity, is designed to resemble a cherished family heirloom. Dura Supreme’s artisans hand-detail the surface to create the look of timeworn distressing. Finishes are layered to emulate the look of furniture that has been refinished over the years. A layer of stain is covered with a layer of paint with special effects to age the surface. The paint is then chipped away along corners and edges to create, the signature look of Heritage Paint. The bathroom has evolved from its purist utilitarian roots to a more intimate and reflective sanctuary in which to relax and reconnect. This wooded, lakeside home plays an influential role in the homeowners artistic vision as a magical realist painter. By providing an environment that comes alive with the sights and sounds of nature, the artist is able to closely study as an explorer would by uncovering, recording, and rearranging the beauty of the natural world and the beauty of human beings. This connection to nature comes from a horticultural interest manifested in the daily ritual of digging and pruning in her Connecticut garden. A daily ritual of physical immersion with the dirt and the worms of life contrasts with the otherworldly fantastical spaces the artist creates for her paintings. The paradoxical character of these two places imbues her paintings with an alluring mystery.
