For the complete renovation of their Bryn Mawr, PA house, the Lynch family wanted flooring that would fit in with their rustic aesthetic and their goal of creating a restored carriage house style. According to Deb Lynch, “the floors go a long way in creating an environment that looks well-loved and lived in,” and guests frequently think that the flooring is original to the house rather than a new, custom floor. The Lynch family chose to work with Wide Plank Floor Supply to create a custom wide plank floor which would fit in perfectly with the style they had already gone great lengths to create with their other renovation efforts. They ultimately chose a skip-planed, live sawn prefinished white oak floor that they completely customized by working with Wide Plank Floor Supply. The flooring includes planks with variable widths––4”, 6”, and 8”, and lengths varying from 2’ to 10’. The skip-planing process created deep circle saw marks which enhance the character of the floor. The Lynch family chose a dark cinnamon brandy color for the custom stain, which imparts the room with a feeling of warmth.

This downtown St. Paul condo had been updated recently but the quality and layout were not great. Before the kitchen renovation, the cabinets were not designed for a kitchen, they were very shallow, with shelves that were constantly falling. The sink was stuck in the corner which made using it very frustrating and the refrigerator was tiny.
The homeowner desired an open kitchen with a good layout, plenty of storage, ample countertops, and seating for entertaining.
To achieve these goals, we got rid of the kitchen island and open shelving unit to reconfigured the kitchen into a U-shaped layout with a huge peninsula. The large new fridge was relocated to the adjacent wall, the sink was moved out of the corner and the range was moved to the new peninsula. This gave the kitchen a great work triangle that is ideal for entertaining. Open shelves were added for display, and a bold green paint was used on the accent wall where a commissioned painting will hang.
Ample Cambria Quartz countertops in the Skara Brae pattern bring an organic feel to the space while the long linear porcelain tile backsplash adds to the industrial, modern vibe of the open loft.
This loft now matches the artistic vibes of the building, the personality of the homeowner, and imparts the quality this homeowner deserves so she can enjoy it for many years to come.

Design Director Zoe Lee’s passion for customization is evident in this city residence where she melds the elevated experience of luxury hotels with a soft and inviting atmosphere that feels welcoming. Lee’s panache for artful contrasts pairs the richness of strong materials, such as oak and porcelain, with the sophistication of contemporary silhouettes. “The goal was to create a sense of indulgence and comfort, making every moment spent in the homea truly memorable one,” says Lee.
By enlivening a once-predominantly white colour scheme with muted hues and tactile textures, Lee was able to impart a characterful countenance that still feels comfortable. She relied on subtle details to ensure this is a residence infused with softness. “The carefully placed and concealed LED light strips throughout create a gentle and ambient illumination,” says Lee.
“They conjure a warm ambiance, while adding a touch of modernity.” Further finishes include a Shaker feature wall in the living room. It extends seamlessly to the room’s double-height ceiling, adding an element of continuity and establishing a connection with the primary ensuite’s wood panelling. “This integration of design elements creates a cohesive and visually appealing atmosphere,” Lee says.
The ensuite’s dramatically veined marble-look is carried from the walls to the countertop and even the cabinet doors. “This consistent finish serves as another unifying element, transforming the individual components into a
captivating feature wall. It adds an elegant touch to the overall aesthetic of the space.”
Pops of black hardware throughout channel that elegance and feel welcoming. Lee says, “The furnishings’ unique characteristics and visual appeal contribute to a sense of continuous luxury – it is now a home that is both bespoke and wonderfully beckoning.”

The bathroom had good bones but was lacking light, had a weird industrial metal insert in the wall, and had a one-piece stainless-steel shower insert that was dangerously slippery.
In the bathroom, we replaced the mirror with a unique hexagon shape that echoes the gradient hexagon encaustic tile in the shower. A new penny round shower floor was installed for extra traction and frameless glass shower door was added to keep the bathroom bright and open. Nestled atop a wooded ridge in the Hudson Highlands, the architect-owner envisioned a reinterpretation of renowned mid-century experimental “Case Study Homes”. An authentic representation of the materials and a clear outdoor-indoor connection were priorities for the design. Heart pine on the ceiling references the forested surroundings. All cabinets are Bilotta’s private Bilotta Collection cabinetry. The island and wall cabinets are distinctive: natural walnut quarter-sawn veneer trimmed with thin strips of natural walnut solid stock. Matte black on the paneled refrigerator, tall pantry and rear base cabinets frame the area and merge into the black structural columns. Balancing the darker finishes is a single slab of Carrera marble on the backsplash, with Caesarstone in “Concrete” topping the cabinetry. Surrounded by walls of glass, the kitchen is flanked by oversized impressive roof overhangs with exposed joists. Inside, a header was placed to align with the outermost joist and delineate the prep area. Within that footprint, natural heart pine planks line the ceiling, parallel to the outdoor joists. This creates the illusion that the overhang enters the kitchen at one end and exits out the other, further obscuring the line between indoors and out. As a counterpoint to strong vertical cabinet lines and horizontal ceiling lines, a unique bronze scissor-armed light fixture creates a diamond pattern across the length of the kitchen. At the intersection of each arm is an individual half-gold exposed light bulb, resulting in pools of illumination that highlight the beautiful grain pattern and coloration of the wood ceiling – a stunning alternative to ubiquitous recessed lighting. Although it’s not large, this kitchen offers an abundance of storage and countertop space for meal prep and serving. The refrigerator and tall pantry bookend the space; making them equal in size imparts pleasing symmetry. With the sink centered along the back wall and the range centered in the island, there’s plenty of elbow room on each side of the appliances. Everything is within arms’ reach for easy use and fast cleanup. The gray hues of the “Concrete” colored quartz tops and the veining of the Carrera backsplash echo the stone outcroppings in the landscape and provide contrast to the variety of wood tones throughout the room.

In the kitchen, strong attention to detail was vital to achieve precise sight lines that run the length of the home, linking the cabinetry and tile. Hardwood flooring sits below quarter-sawn white oak cabinetry, enveloped by dual leathered granite waterfall countertops, which impart a matte, textured appearance. The soft neutral tones bring a sense of warmth and unity, while thoughtfully placed dark accents and subtle hints of color beautifully complement the space.
The homeowners are avid wine connoisseurs, so two specialty wine refrigerators were also installed, providing the temperature-control needed to preserve the highest quality and taste.

Nestled in the heart of the living space, a whitewashed brick fireplace stands as a focal point of timeless charm and warmth. The gentle, neutral tones of the brick are invitingly softened by the artful touch of whitewashing, imparting a cozy and rustic feel to the room. Adjacent to this comforting centerpiece, a log hook patiently awaits its turn to contribute to the crackling flames. The simplicity of the whitewashed brick blends seamlessly with the natural wood elements, creating a harmonious atmosphere that beckons for moments of relaxation and fireside conversations.
