Our clients were a young married couple who enjoyed bringing people together through social gatherings, and moments of quiet pause. The interior layout was redefined to create a spacious and open plan that suited the couple's lifestyle needs. Warm and bright material and color finishes were also curated to create a harmonious flow of spaces for a sense of easy living. Select pieces of furniture were also customised to optimise the use of space and enhance the overarching design direction.

Our wine cellar builders installed premium redwood wine racks in this commercial wine cellar.
As you can see, they were left unfinished, in favor of a bright, clean wine cellar design TX.
Like wine, unfinished wood ages gracefully, even improving in quality over time.
A variety of racking types can be seen here. They provide both bulk and display wine storage options.

The original small 2 bedroom dwelling was deconstructed piece by piece, with every element recycled/re-used. The larger, newly built home + studio uses much less energy than the original. In fact, the home and office combined are net zero (the home’s blower door test came in at Passive House levels, though certification was not procured). The transformed home boasts a better functioning layout, increased square footage, and bold accent colors to boot. The multiple level patios book-end the home’s front and rear facades. The added outdoor living with the nearly 13’ sliding doors allows ample natural light into the home. The transom windows create an increased openness with the floor to ceiling glazing. The larger tilt-turn windows throughout the home provide ventilation and open views for the 3-level contemporary home. In addition, the larger overhangs provide increased passive thermal protection from the scattered sunny days. The conglomeration of exterior materials is diverse and playful with dark stained wood, concrete, natural wood finish, and teal horizontal siding. A fearless selection of a bright orange window brings a bold accent to the street-side composition. These elements combined create a dynamic modern design to the inclusive Portland backdrop.

This is a redesigned studio apartment we recently renovated. The goal was to increase function and increase the feeling of separate functions. Luckily, this studio is of an impressive size and we were able to increase function via a large kitchen, dining area, home office, and bedroom area.
Each separated area serves its own purpose and gives the feeling that the apartment, though small, has plenty of space for differing tasks. The result is a highly functioning studio that doesn’t feel cramped, but rather like a one bed apartment.

South Baton Rouge Kitchen Remodel:
If the kitchen space was a blank slate - how could it be designed to function best for the owners? Asking this question at the beginning and collaboration with the owner and designer that desired a beautiful end product was what contributed to the success of this project. We began with a center island cooktop that "cramped" the room for preparing meals and a relatively small refrigerator space. For an owner that loves to cook and entertain, we needed to increase the available space for cooking and food storage. In the end, we relocated the gas range to the side wall along with increasing the island size to allow room for meal preparation along with bar style seating for loved ones to "watch and test taste" while keeping good conversation close by the cook in action. We also were able to accommodate the owner's desire to increase the refrigerator/ freezer space without losing cabinet storage. Installing floor to ceiling cabinetry with accessory lighting gives this space the sense that good design and quality craftsmanship are necessary ingredients for another successful project by Spencer's Contracting.

The curved metal bar shown here allows the ladder to roll back and forth smoothly, granting access to all of the upper wine bottles.
Not only is this a convenience, but it adds to the overall look of the wine cellar as well.

South Monroe Sanctuary
These delightful homeowners wanted to increase their usable patio space, create privacy from pesky neighbors, have a new uniform patio surface (they had aggregate concrete and sandset flagstone), to mask freeway noise and create much needed shade.
We started by suggesting they move the hot tub into the body of the pool and relocating the pool equipment to the remote right corner of the yard so you could actually hear people talk while relaxing. Unfortunately, the pool contractor hired by the client turned out to be an absolute nightmare. He went off the air completely for weeks at a time with no communication, creating huge project delays. There appeared to be some issue between him and his subcontractors. The pool contractor installed the pool and pool coping for this project, therefore they are not part of our contract with the homeowner.
Despite the challenges and delays with the pool contractor, we were able to move the project forward. We installed drainage, re-graded the property and laid the pavers for the two patios. The existing patio was funky as there was a step down in an awkward location, creating a tripping hazard. We adjusted the step location by making a step up from the infrequently used garage door. Now the patio and walk are all at the same level. We removed some of the existing concrete along the sidewalk so you see a cohesive flow of pavers once you are through the side yard, rather than a mishmash of materials.
Installing five 24” box laurels helped with the visual privacy from the pesky neighbors. The water features installed in the pool and the standalone fountain help eliminate the sound of the freeway noise.
The focal point of the yard is the wall at the base of the pool, constructed out of cinderblock, finished with beautiful 2” and 3” pieces of K2 Full Range Ashlar stone and a bluestone cap, and water weirs. We added visual green by placing the stepping stones into the lawn, which also draws your attention to the other side of the yard and makes the yard look larger.
Reducing the lawn footprint a bit, reducing the patio footprint from 1430 SF to 1140 SF, while increasing the planting beds, all made the yard seem more spacious and lush. We recommended increasing the coping size to 18” wide so there would be enough space to around the pool.
Many existing plants and trees remained so we had to match and plan for the future since some existing trees look to be nearing end of life. The owner wanted an all white plant palette and loves shade plants like hydrangeas so we had to find full sun, white flowering plants which met with her approval.
Providing much needed shade for this uber hot backyard, the oversized pergola allows for expansion of shaded seating for large parties. The fan helps keep guests cool on hot days and the heaters keep them warm during the fall and spring shoulder seasons. Their budget did not allow for a built in BBQ at the moment so we helped them source a sleek looking MontAlpi BBQ island at a reasonable price point.
