Here is a newly completed project I've been working on. My charge was to make functional spaces in a basement that included a bar, TV space, game space, office space and music room. The client was sharing some photos he'd taken in subways in NYC, Chicago and London, among others. These exciting images of his stimulated an idea: What if we used the subway as a motif for the entire basement project? This concept was enthusiastically endorsed. Interior Designer Rebecca Robeson created a Home Bar area where her client would be excited to entertain friends and family. With a nod to the Industrial, Rebecca's goal was to turn this once outdated condo, into a hip, modern space reflecting the homeowners LOVE FOR THE LOFT! Paul Anderson from EKD in Denver, worked closely with the team at Robeson Design on Rebecca's vision to insure every detail was built to perfection. Custom cabinets of Silver Eucalyptus include luxury features such as live edge Curly Maple shelves above the serving countertop, touch-latch drawers, soft-close hinges and hand forged steel kick-plates that graze the White Oak hardwood floors... just to name a few. To highlight it all, individually lit drawers and sliding cabinet doors activate upon opening. Set against used brick, the look and feel connects seamlessly with the adjacent Dining area and Great Room ... perfect for home entertainment! An oversized storage/guest room became a suite for children to entertain friends as well as a place to sleep and study. Ordinary closet doors were replaced with old doors covered with chalkboard paint for messages and memos sliding on a heavy metal track. An old metal work bench base was updated with a new top to house three TV’s for video gaming. A large sectional gives generous seating for his friends when playing games or just relaxing. Rustic sconces on either side of the bed create task lighting for studying. A fun dresser that mimics an old trunk provides storage. The space is topped off with accessories indigenous of a boy’s space. Photos by Randy Colwell

Photo by: Lucas Finlay A successful entrepreneur and self-proclaimed bachelor, the owner of this 1,100-square-foot Yaletown property sought a complete renovation in time for Vancouver Winter Olympic Games. The goal: make it party central and keep the neighbours happy. For the latter, we added acoustical insulation to walls, ceilings, floors and doors. For the former, we designed the kitchen to provide ample catering space and keep guests oriented around the bar top and living area. Concrete counters, stainless steel cabinets, tin doors and concrete floors were chosen for durability and easy cleaning. The black, high-gloss lacquered pantry cabinets reflect light from the single window, and amplify the industrial space’s masculinity. To add depth and highlight the history of the 100-year-old garment factory building, the original brick and concrete walls were exposed. In the living room, a drywall ceiling and steel beams were clad in Douglas Fir to reference the old, original post and beam structure. We juxtaposed these raw elements with clean lines and bold statements with a nod to overnight guests. In the ensuite, the sculptural Spoon XL tub provides room for two; the vanity has a pop-up make-up mirror and extra storage; and, LED lighting in the steam shower to shift the mood from refreshing to sensual.

The family living in this shingled roofed home on the Peninsula loves color and pattern. At the heart of the two-story house, we created a library with high gloss lapis blue walls. The tête-à-tête provides an inviting place for the couple to read while their children play games at the antique card table. As a counterpoint, the open planned family, dining room, and kitchen have white walls. We selected a deep aubergine for the kitchen cabinetry. In the tranquil master suite, we layered celadon and sky blue while the daughters' room features pink, purple, and citrine.

Shots of red punch up the style in this neutral space. A tufted red leather ottoman pairs with the track arm sofa in a textured warm gray fabric to create a masculine vibe . The chunky wool area rug softens the tile floor and sound proof insulation keeps the noise down when the room is being used for gaming. A pair of side tables have deep drawers to store controllers and headsets for gaming. Oversized wall mounted swing arm lamps add an industrial vibe.

This 1600+ square foot basement was a diamond in the rough. We were tasked with keeping farmhouse elements in the design plan while implementing industrial elements. The client requested the space include a gym, ample seating and viewing area for movies, a full bar , banquette seating as well as area for their gaming tables - shuffleboard, pool table and ping pong. By shifting two support columns we were able to bury one in the powder room wall and implement two in the custom design of the bar. Custom finishes are provided throughout the space to complete this entertainers dream.

The bonus room is upstairs above the garage. We made this area into a secondary living room as well as playroom/game room for the kids.
