The exterior of what looks like a vernacular Hamptons shingle cottage, designed by architect Blaze Makoid, is intentionally deceiving. For the interiors, Axis Mundi typically decided not to play by the rules. Instead of de rigeur nautical artifacts, floppy sofas and wicker furniture, the firm responded to Makoid’s all-white interior envelope by injecting rooms with comfortable modern elegance that’s more contemporary Cap Ferrat than Eastern Long Island. Clean furniture silhouettes—from Cassina, Poltrona Frau and B&B Italia—a Massimo Vitali beach scene, a Moooi chandelier and industrial finishes (such as the steel of the fireplace surround and the anodized aluminum of a sleek Bulthaup kitchen) spark a creative tension between indoors and out. The gray palette provides a quiet backdrop for the nature outside, except for the master suite, where custom oak panels and blue shades create a reassuring warmth conducive to sleep.

In this primary bathroom remodel, a once uninspiring space was completely transformed into a fresh and modern bathroom that excelled in both aesthetics and functionality. To achieve this, the room was opened up by removing parts of the walls surrounding the shower and toilet. The introduction of a half pony wall struck a perfect balance, offering privacy while allowing light to flow freely throughout the room. Unique and stylish tiles were meticulously chosen for the shower and bathtub, injecting a sense of intentionality into the overall design. A beautiful new vanity became the centerpiece, complemented by a large mirror and new vanity lighting to complete the look. The addition of gold fixtures throughout the room added a touch of luxury, elevating the bathroom into a space that marries both form and function seamlessly.

We had the privilege of working on a lovely project for a young family at the Four Seasons Residences in downtown San Francisco.
We wanted to inject the client’s love of their recent vacations abroad into their new cityscape space. They were inspired by raw materials, textures, woven colors, and oceanside views, so we worked those into the designs along the skyline.
To bring their vision to life, we sourced incredibly unique pieces from bespoke and vintage SF showrooms and one-of-a-kind pieces we collected from abroad.
As with everything we take on, we invited the opportunity to challenge our palette with new materials and the opportunity to experiment with scale juxtaposed against expansive views.

Our client embarked on a transformative journey to modernize their dining room, embracing sophistication and comfort while eliminating heavier, traditional elements.
Plush dining chairs exude opulence with soft fabric and rounded backrests, inviting guests to linger in luxurious comfort. A dazzling 14-light chandelier, adorned with faceted crystals and a gold-plated frame, adds glamour and captivates with its mesmerizing glow.
The live edge dining table, with rich coloration and natural curves, serves as the room’s centerpiece, harmonizing effortlessly with modern components. A rustic porcelain bowl holds faux artichokes, injecting character and personalization into the space. Together, these elements create a fresh, contemporary aesthetic that transcends time, offering a more modern dining oasis for indulgent conversations and stylish gatherings.

Rustic yet refined, this modern country retreat blends old and new in masterful ways, creating a fresh yet timeless experience. The structured, austere exterior gives way to an inviting interior. The palette of subdued greens, sunny yellows, and watery blues draws inspiration from nature. Whether in the upholstery or on the walls, trailing blooms lend a note of softness throughout. The dark teal kitchen receives an injection of light from a thoughtfully-appointed skylight; a dining room with vaulted ceilings and bead board walls add a rustic feel. The wall treatment continues through the main floor to the living room, highlighted by a large and inviting limestone fireplace that gives the relaxed room a note of grandeur. Turquoise subway tiles elevate the laundry room from utilitarian to charming. Flanked by large windows, the home is abound with natural vistas. Antlers, antique framed mirrors and plaid trim accentuates the high ceilings. Hand scraped wood flooring from Schotten & Hansen line the wide corridors and provide the ideal space for lounging.

Ginevra combines an elegant design to a wide and embracing shape, inviting you to relax. The shell is made by cold injected foam and upholstered with leather or fabric from a wide selection. The choice of various bases: wooden legs, sled base or central column, completes the offer. Ginevra is perfectly placed both in residential and community spaces.

A young family moving from NYC to their first home in Westchester County found this pre-war colonial in Larchmont New York in need of a serious overhaul. After a complete gut job and rework of the entire home, they created a compact, vibrantly colorful kitchen open to the family room. o A nautical indigo color was chosen for the island and tall storage cabinets, with a subtle warm gray on the perimeter
o Natural walnut shelving and countertop on the peninsula evoke a mid-century vibe which relates to other vintage furniture pieces in the home
o Colorful cement tiles were carried all the way up the counters to inject pattern and whimsy
o Brass fixtures and hardware strike a handsome contrast with the deep indigo color scheme. Architect: Greg Lewis, Lewis and Lewis, Larchmont NY
