Under the guidance of our amazing Project Manager, Tony Cicchino, and the talented Designer, Justina Auer, this kitchen looks unrecognizable from the Before pictures. We opted to maintain the existing layout but injected a dash of brilliance with additional cabinetry, elevating both form and function. The decision to remove overhead wall cabinets above the peninsula really started to open up the space, allowing for a more seamless and spacious feel. We also bid adieu to the faux beams to gain a fluid perspective throughout the room. The clever addition of a pantry cabinet and additional storage space on the backside of the peninsula really expanded the storage universe. By lifting the microwave off the counter, we gained valuable extra counter space. The hidden pull-out trash under the counter is a game-changer for convenience. We embraced a clean and timeless palette of simple whites and grays, making the space a perfect canvas for personal touches. This kitchen is now a masterpiece that marries practicality with panache!

For the interiors, Axis Mundi typically decided not to play by the rules. Instead of de rigeur nautical artifacts, floppy sofas and wicker furniture, the firm responded to Makoid’s all-white interior envelope by injecting rooms with comfortable modern elegance that’s more contemporary Cap Ferrat than Eastern Long Island. Clean furniture silhouettes—from Cassina, Poltrona Frau and B&B Italia—a Massimo Vitali beach scene, a Moooi chandelier and industrial finishes (such as the steel of the fireplace surround and the anodized aluminum of a sleek Bulthaup kitchen) spark a creative tension between indoors and out. The gray palette provides a quiet backdrop for the nature outside, except for the master suite, where custom oak panels and blue shades create a reassuring warmth conducive to sleep. "Sun-Kissed Sanctuary" reimagines the traditional dining room as a versatile haven, perfect for year-round conversation and creating a lasting first impression. This project catered to the client's desire for a space that seamlessly blends casual elegance with organic elements. The design team employed a calming palette of soft whites and airy blues, setting the stage for a serene escape. Textural harmony was achieved through a layered approach: radial plush linen chairs provided sumptuous comfort, while woven pillows and a shagreen-wrapped coffee table added a touch of rustic charm. A lush fiddle fig leaf plant, strategically placed in the space, injected a dose of life and echoed the organic design theme. Respectful of the existing foundation, we integrated the client's existing rug, a statement chandelier, and a captivating wall thread hanging into the new design. To elevate the space further, we introduced custom elements that instilled a sense of unique character. Hand-crafted wood beams and wall trim, reminiscent of a sun-drenched porch, added warmth and architectural interest. Oyster-hued wallpaper on the foyer ceiling provided a bold textural contrast and a touch of coastal sophistication. The added white trim was accentuated, drawing the eye upwards and creating a sense of verticality. The client, new to the West Village neighborhood, was looking for a fresh take on a New York City bachelor pad. He wanted something neutral and masculine, but with some careful injections of color to keep it interesting, and of course…with a specific budget in mind. We anchored the space with a clean gray sectional, found a perfect barrel-backed chair with a hint of pattern, and layered the space with a plush rug and modern artwork to finish the look. And as the client was an avid reader, we made a point to have plenty of surfaces to display his book collection. The living room and bedroom are connected by a beautiful pair of french doors, so it was important to carry the aesthetic throughout. Only the chicest of modern touches for this detached home in Tornto’s Roncesvalles neighbourhood. Textures like exposed beams and geometric wild tiles give this home cool-kid elevation. The front of the house is reimagined with a fresh, new facade with a reimagined front porch and entrance. Inside, the tiled entry foyer cuts a stylish swath down the hall and up into the back of the powder room. The ground floor opens onto a cozy built-in banquette with a wood ceiling that wraps down one wall, adding warmth and richness to a clean interior. A clean white kitchen with a subtle geometric backsplash is located in the heart of the home, with large windows in the side wall that inject light deep into the middle of the house. Another standout is the custom lasercut screen features a pattern inspired by the kitchen backsplash tile. Through the upstairs corridor, a selection of the original ceiling joists are retained and exposed. A custom made barn door that repurposes scraps of reclaimed wood makes a bold statement on the 2nd floor, enclosing a small den space off the multi-use corridor, and in the basement, a custom built in shelving unit uses rough, reclaimed wood. Creating your dream space in a rental home can sometimes feel limiting, but for this project we focused on unlocking colorful possibilities for our clients. Originally, both office spaces were bare and clean but lacked personality.
