For this master bathroom remodel in Warwick, the homeowners were inspired by their favorite hotels - the Surrey Hotel in New York and the Connaught in London. We combined the details our clients loved most about each location and worked within their budget to create this getaway-worthy bathroom. We designed and installed custom inset cabinets and a furniture quality vanity made specifically for this client. KitchenLab Interiors’ first, entirely new construction project in collaboration with GTH architects who designed the residence. KLI was responsible for all interior finishes, fixtures, furnishings, and design including the stairs, casework, interior doors, moldings and millwork. KLI also worked with the client on selecting the roof, exterior stucco and paint colors, stone, windows, and doors. The homeowners had purchased the existing home on a lakefront lot of the Valley Lo community in Glenview, thinking that it would be a gut renovation, but when they discovered a host of issues including mold, they decided to tear it down and start from scratch. The minute you look out the living room windows, you feel as though you're on a lakeside vacation in Wisconsin or Michigan. We wanted to help the homeowners achieve this feeling throughout the house - merging the causal vibe of a vacation home with the elegance desired for a primary residence. This project is unique and personal in many ways - Rebekah and the homeowner, Lorie, had grown up together in a small suburb of Columbus, Ohio. Lorie had been Rebekah's babysitter and was like an older sister growing up. They were both heavily influenced by the style of the late 70's and early 80's boho/hippy meets disco and 80's glam, and both credit their moms for an early interest in anything related to art, design, and style. One of the biggest challenges of doing a new construction project is that it takes so much longer to plan and execute and by the time tile and lighting is installed, you might be bored by the selections of feel like you've seen them everywhere already. “I really tried to pull myself, our team and the client away from the echo-chamber of Pinterest and Instagram. We fell in love with counter stools 3 years ago that I couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger on, thank god, because then they started showing up literally everywhere", Rebekah recalls. Lots of one of a kind vintage rugs and furnishings make the home feel less brand-spanking new. The best projects come from a team slightly outside their comfort zone. One of the funniest things Lorie says to Rebekah, "I gave you everything you wanted", which is pretty hilarious coming from a client to a designer.

In the late 50’s, this basement was cut up into a dental office with tiny exam rooms. Red House Custom Building designed a space that could be used as a home gym & media room. Upon demolition, we uncovered an original, structural arch and a wonderful brick foundation that highlighted the home’s original detailing and substantial structure. These were reincorporated into the new design. The arched window on the left was stripped and restored to original working order. The fireplace was one of four original to the home. Harold T. Merriman was the original owner of home, and the homeowners found some of his works on the third floor of the house. He sketched a plat of lots surrounding the property in 1899. At the completion of the project, the homeowners had it framed, and it now hangs in the room above the A/V cabinet. High paneled wainscot in the basement perfectly mimics the late 1800’s, battered paneling found under several wall layers during demo. Wallpaper featuring a "tree of life". Inspired by the Palace of Fontainebleau outside Paris, this wallpaper shows a flock of exotic birds in vibrant colours. Shown here in fuchsia pink and emerald green. Often, a small powder room is found off the main foyer to a house. In this project, we collaborated with the homeowners to make a great statement about the owners themselves. Elegant lines and subdued colors in the foyer are contrast against this splash of color and bold paneling and bolection molding -- a bit of surprising personality is tucked away waiting to be discovered. - Justin Zeller owns a design-build remodeling firm, Red House Custom Building, serving RI and MA. Squaring the room and adding natural materials erased the memory of the lack luster space and converted it to a bright and welcoming spa oasis. The home was a new build in 2005 and it looked like all the builder’s material choices remained. The client was clear on their design direction but were challenged by the differing ceiling heights and were looking to hire a design-build firm that could resolve that issue. This local Glen Ellyn couple found us on Instagram (@kitchenstudioge, follow us ?). They loved our designs and felt like we fit their style. They requested a full primary bath renovation to include a large shower, soaking tub, double vanity with storage options, and heated floors. The wife also really wanted a separate make-up vanity. The biggest challenge presented to us was to architecturally marry the various ceiling heights and deliver a streamlined design. The existing layout worked well for the couple, so we kept everything in place, except we enlarged the shower and replaced the built-in tub with a lovely free-standing model. We also added a sitting make-up vanity. We were able to eliminate the awkward ceiling lines by extending all the walls to the highest level. Then, to accommodate the sprinklers and HVAC, lowered the ceiling height over the entrance and shower area which then opens to the 2-story vanity and tub area. Very dramatic! This high-end home deserved high-end fixtures. The homeowners also quickly realized they loved the look of natural marble and wanted to use as much of it as possible in their new bath. They chose a marble slab from the stone yard for the countertops and back splash, and we found complimentary marble tile for the shower. The homeowners also liked the idea of mixing metals in their new posh bathroom and loved the look of black, gold, and chrome. Although our clients were very clear on their style, they were having a difficult time pulling it all together and envisioning the final product. As interior designers it is our job to translate and elevate our clients’ ideas into a deliverable design. We presented the homeowners with mood boards and 3D renderings of our modern, clean, white marble design. Since the color scheme was relatively neutral, at the homeowner’s request, we decided to add of interest with the patterns and shapes in the room. We were first inspired by the shower floor tile with its circular/linear motif. We designed the cabinetry, floor and wall tiles, mirrors, cabinet pulls, and wainscoting to have a square or rectangular shape, and then to create interest we added perfectly placed circles to contrast with the rectangular shapes. The globe shaped chandelier against the square wall trim is a delightful yet subtle juxtaposition. The clients were overjoyed with our interpretation of their vision and impressed with the level of detail we brought to the project. It’s one thing to know how you want a space to look, but it takes a special set of skills to create the design and see it thorough to implementation. Perhaps as no other private community in the desert, Tradition Golf Club remains true to the ideals of ultra-exclusivity and understated elegance. There is a blend of Spanish Revival, Early California and Mediterranean architecture. My Client's second home forfeits none of the grace and charm of the exterior as it leans towards a modern palm desert aesthetic and comfortable interior. Clean lines, expansive glass and a bright color palette create a stunning visual transition from room to room. Bright colored fabrics reflecting the sky and landscape are used throughout the home. Bold design features like large scaled wallpaper are seen in the both the Dining Room & Master bedroom. The powder bath is completely covered in a beaded wallpaper making it a truly exceptional experience. There is a play with light and the patterns it creates through the custom decorative light fixtures. The artwork was curated by LJLdesigns from San Francisco, Los Angeles and local artists in Pam Springs. A hanging sculpture in the entry niche and a rayon thread 3D art greet you as you enter their home.
