Featuring a classic H-shaped plan and minimalist details, this plan was designed with the modern family in mind. This home carefully balances a sleek and uniform façade with more contemporary elements. Simple lap siding serves as a backdrop to the careful arrangement of windows and outdoor spaces. In all rooms, preferential treatment is given to maximize exposure to the rear yard, making this a perfect lakefront home.

The unique feature of this contemporary space is that the first floor area is designed to be a working office and the second floor is a balcony library. The second floor space contains large walls of books stored on milled book shelves and cabinetry matching that of the first floor. The large windows provide stunning views to a meticulously landscaped lake.

To banish shadows in this design, bright columns of light were fashioned, flooding the home with light and anchoring the home's industrial-meets-organic design scheme. An ingenious center light-well, topped with a massive skylight and wrapped in glass handrails, provides a breathtaking focal point accentuated by a stunning three-globe light fixture that spans the space’s height. Nearby, a glass and steel elevator whisks residents from the parlor level to the roof.

As a design-build firm, the designer's focus for every project is to create a space that will not only suit the lifestyle of their clients, but also incorporate their personalities and sentimental belongings to truly make the home feel that it was built custom to them. This project encompassed the style and reclaimed artifacts from a completely different century. With timely features such as stacked stone, hand troweled limestone stucco, leaded glass windows, re-claimed 18th century European doors, slate and lead roof, gas lanterns and more, the clients wanted to replicate a traditional European home.

This completed home boasts a HERS index of zero. The most noteworthy energy efficient features are the air tightness of the thermal shell and the use of solar energy. Using a 17.1 kW Photovoltaic system and Tesla Powerwall, the solar system provides approximately 100% of the annual electrical energy needs. In addition, an innovative “pod” floor plan design allows each separate pod to be closed off for minimal HVAC use when unused.

To facilitate the builder's desire to create a successful model home in this large site development with expansive natural preserves, this design creates a sense of presence far greater than its actual size. This was accomplished by a wide yet shallow layout that allows most rooms to look out to rear of home and preserve views beyond. Designed with a West Indies flavor, this thoroughly modern home's layout flows seamlessly from space to space. Each room is bright with lots of natural light, creating a home that takes fullest potential of this unique site.

2018 HNA Awards Winner - Vintage Installation

In 2004 paving stones were still a young industry. Cobblestones were the main stay and a three color mix was cutting edge. Customers were not adventuresome enough to try something like this so one of the owners of the company did this at his house. The industry has come a long way. This installation certainly shows the resilience and longevity of paving stones. The kids that lived here now have kids. Multiple birthdays, anniversaries, and celebrations have taken place here with virtually no degradation of the installation. The pizza oven was added four years ago and fits in seamlessly. Only wish the patio furniture lasted as well. that is the third generation since the patio was installed.

Paver Designs, LLC
This project was built by Jim and Justin Hampton of Paver Designs LLC, a father and son company with no other employees. This multi-level patio/entertainment area is approximately 2,200 square feet. Pavers were placed over one inch of bedding sand and 9 in. of crushed, recycled concrete base.
Designs were laid out on the pavers, all cut individually, then filled in with red and gold pavers.
A sealer was the applied to the paver surface to enrich its colors. A polymeric joint sand stabilizer was used during the final compaction. A fireplace, wood boxes, and grill island were installed in lower patio area. The two level backyard patio is connected by sidewalks to a front courtyard.

The project is located in a small beach town in Southern California overlooking the Palos Verdes Hills. In order to capture this spectacular view, the designer located the main living/dining room on the second floor with floor to ceiling sliding doors. A small balcony with glass railing is connected to the living room, complementing its function by providing a semi-outdoor/indoor space.

In this remodel, the client wanted more space for recreation and entertaining as well as a peaceful retreat in their existing home. A detached two-car garage provided the ideal medium for this purpose, in which the biggest challenge was minimizing the visual impact of the transformation. A gable-ended addition to the garage and a half-story above allowed for a sport court and a large entertaining space, without appearing too massive from the street. A bridge creates an interior connection between the home and the garage’s upper level.
