Designed to embrace an extensive and unique art collection including sculpture, paintings, tapestry, and cultural antiquities, this modernist home located in north Scottsdale’s Estancia is the quintessential gallery home for the spectacular collection within. The primary roof form, “the wing” as the owner enjoys referring to it, opens the home vertically to a view of adjacent Pinnacle peak and changes the aperture to horizontal for the opposing view to the golf course. Deep overhangs and fenestration recesses give the home protection from the elements and provide supporting shade and shadow for what proves to be a desert sculpture. The restrained palette allows the architecture to express itself while permitting each object in the home to make its own place. The home, while certainly modern, expresses both elegance and warmth in its material selections including canterra stone, chopped sandstone, copper, and stucco. An out-of-sight microwave is behind the lower door of the countertop to ceiling cabinet. This kitchen went from almost no counters to more than enough for a great interactive cooking experience.

This was such a fun project to work on! We took out walls enclosing the previously windowless kitchen and changed the dynamic of the home. The client can cook, interact with kids and friends and see outside - all basic and important things to maintaining happiness.

This sophisticated kitchen uses multiple finishes on the cabinetry and countertops to put emphasis on focal points and combine textures. The kitchen sink was built into the island to improve the work triangle and allow the homeowners to interact with guests while still working in the kitchen.
