Our La Cañada studio designed this lovely home, keeping with the fun, cheerful personalities of the homeowner. The entry runner from Annie Selke is the perfect introduction to the house and its playful palette, adding a welcoming appeal. In the dining room, a beautiful, iconic Schumacher wallpaper was one of our happy finishes whose vines and garden colors begged for more vibrant colors to complement it. So we added bold green color to the trims, doors, and windows, enhancing the playful appeal. In the family room, we used a soft palette with pale blue, soft grays, and warm corals, reminiscent of pastel house palettes and crisp white trim that reflects the turquoise waters and white sandy beaches of Bermuda! The formal living room looks elegant and sophisticated, with beautiful furniture in soft blue and pastel green. The curtains nicely complement the space, and the gorgeous wooden center table anchors the space beautifully. The Courtyard House, designed in 1964 by Sarasota School of Architecture's Jack West, is a Homes for Better Living Award winner, published in Architectural Record Houses of 1965. Known for it's simple materiality, open plan, and sweeping curving roof shape, the home had seen several renovations before the current owners came to us with a challenge: let us celebrate the spirit of the Courtyard House with a serene reflecting pool at the entry of the home. The design strategy was to introduce several wall planes, perforated and screened with wood-look aluminum battens, that gradually reveal the home and provide a neutral base for the strong, sweeping curved form of the existing roof. The introduction of the wall planes allowed for a subtle reorganization of the entry sequence, and a unique opportunity to experience the reflecting pool with a sense of privacy. A new pool and terrace with integrated fire feature look over the beautiful Dolphin Waterway, and provide for a relaxing evening for the family, or a backdrop for a large gathering. Brand new to our popular Striated Collection, “Sonora” is a sophisticated, cut and loop, diamond lattice design. Its textural striated variations are paired with a classic motif to create a relaxed and distressed look while adding a sparkle of glamour to the floor. The spectacular color palette with thirty (30) hues coordinates perfectly with our recent introduction, Mystic Charm. The palette incorporates the most popular West Coast inspired neutrals and rich accent tones.

The living room combines existing pieces along with the introduction of oval ostrich leather ottoman/coffee table; curved modern sofa; hand-painted floor screen framed by wall sconces. Floor lamps provide practical reading lamps without contrived end tables or predictable floor plan.

The "Nautical Aqua Living Quarters" is one of our latest fan favorites that included an entryway, family room, dining room, play area, and kitchen space. The goal was to create a cohesive, warm and inviting space that this young family could enjoy. By utilizing some multi-functional storage elements, we created hidden spaces that helped organize kid toys. The introduction of the aqua color splash was a warm yet subtle pop that made everything visually flow.

The old sidewalk was skinny, and made a 90 degree turn, with two steps down. Widen the walk, and gently slope and curve it, which yields a far more elegant entry, the introduction to the home.

This home enjoys stunning views of Sweeney Lake from almost anywhere in the home; however it was in need of repair and a significant reorganization of the plan to take full advantage of site. The project is about the complete restoration and rethinking of this vintage 1965 mid-century gem. The house is deceivingly large with a full finished lower level and an indoor pool room; however it lived cramped and broken up. The entry was uninviting and small, the poolroom unused and poorly heated, the kitchen undersized, and the bedrooms and baths poorly accessed. Our task was to open up the home through the rethinking of the floor plan and the introduction of a new central axis connecting and organizing the homes functions and spaces around view corridors and existing or new focal points. The home had beautiful features to build upon; the central brick fireplace, the raised roofs over the living and pool rooms, and the view to the lake itself. A fully redone exterior and interior preserve the homes proportion and scale, while at the same time bring greater connection to the site and a much needed clarity to the homes organization. Our client had a white kitchen with worn-out doors and wanted to remodel it to achieve a fresh, new look. Brownstones are synonymous for being long and narrow with few windows, so we developed an open-concept floor plan that melded seamlessly with this space. The introduction of metallic surfaces helped highlight and reflect the sun while the layering of leathers and fabrics help this space feel cozy and welcoming.

An existing 70’s brick home nestled streets away from the beach, is in dire need of a transformation. The existing home had the bones to accommodate a substantial renovation, some modifications to the layout, adding an extension and exaggerating the existing raked ceilings in the main living area impacts the new home. The home itself is a relatively disjointed 70’s home, so cleaver planning was imperative to make the most of the interior space. Large open plan living areas with adjoining outdoor entertaining was important. The owners are a young family who enjoy family and entertaining so interaction with the outdoor alfresco was essential not only for quality of living but to appear as a continuation of the main living area to increase the zone visually. My client’s fresh approach; introduction of modern materials with a hint of Scandinavian and industrial, an improved working area and a functional space for cooking and preparing meals.
