There was the desire for a tub so a tub they got! This gorgeous copper soaking tub sits centered in the bathroom so it's the first thing you see when looking through the pocket door. The tub sits nestled in the bump-out so does not intrude. We don't have it pictured here, but there is a round curtain rod and long fabric shower curtains drape down around the tub to catch any splashes when the shower is in use and also offer privacy doubling as window curtains for the long slender 1x6 windows that illuminate the shiny hammered metal. Accent beams above are consistent with the exposed ceiling beams and grant a ledge to place items and decorate with plants. The shower rod is drilled up through the beam, centered with the tub raining down from above. Glass shelves are waterproof, easy to clean and let the natural light pass through unobstructed. Thick natural edge floating wooden shelves shelves perfectly match the vanity countertop as if with no hard angles only smooth faces. The entire bathroom floor is tiled to you can step out of the tub wet.

The homeowners wanted to put cabinets on the wall to their dining area, adjacent to the kitchen. By using 18" deep cabinets on the bottom, and wall cabinets with glass fronts I added storage and countertop space while not intruding on the dining space. The glass helps the area feel light, and differentiates it from the kitchen.

This house was a very small mid-century bungalow with previous additions that resulted in a large but chaotic layout. The owners wanted to convert the house to a super-efficient, and charming Craftsman-style, 6 bedroom home for their large family and work at home. We achieved the space needs by moving a few walls for a more efficient, organized layout, setting up spaces for overlapping uses, and making a small upstairs addition. Every bit of square footage was optimized to meet the goals of the project without making the house huge or adding unnecessary cost. Much thought was given to the entry sequence near the front door. A large flow-through mudroom with storage for each family member, and adjacent laundry, make it easy for children to be taught to keep their things organized and to contribute to household chores. A mail station and central home admin area at the mudroom help keep clutter down at other areas and minimize home management tasks. A garage door near the kitchen gives quick access to bulk items. The existing house had too much view to the street from the living room through large corner windows, and too little entry transition, to the extent that the family did not feel comfortable using the living room much without shades drawn. We raised the window sills and brought the new windows in from the corner of the house, allowing plenty of light while protecting privacy and a sense of enclosure in the living room. We enlarged the front porch to create a more graceful transition from the public to private space. We located the front door so that the circulation from entry into the house would allow for furnishing the living room with a sitting circle that is not intruded upon by people walking through the room. Sight lines through the living spaces were an important consideration in the design. The owners wanted discreet spaces for living room, kitchen, dining and family room, but also wanted the living spaces to feel connected and to be able to easily watch their children. Being able to see the children playing in the yard while getting things done inside the house was also important. While largely working with the existing structure, we opened walls and rearranged the use of spaces to make a series of connected living spaces with long views through them. The character of the remodeled house is a contemporary Craftsman with classic materials and cool, consistent colors. The patio is paved in irregular, cut flagstone with boulders bordering much of it. The patio serves as an overlook to a natural, forested area without intruding on it.

We added a large family room, kitchen and master suite which are all designed to feel surrounded by the garden, and to create good outdoor places, while not intruding too much into the garden. Sightlines through the house are an important driver of the design. High clerestory windows of several types give a sense of connection to the sky as well, and integrate with vaulted ceilings of various shapes. The house is a mix of styles and types of materials, full of color and whimsy. Saikley Architects worked closely with the clients to shape the space and to allow for the clients’ choices beautiful materials inside and outside. The house is heated by a radiant hydronic system.

This Paradise Model. My heart. This was build for a family of 6. This 8x28' Paradise model ATU tiny home can actually sleep 8 people with the pull out couch. comfortably. There are 2 sets of bunk beds in the back room, and a king size bed in the loft. This family ordered a second unit that serves as the office and dance studio. They joined the two ATUs with a deck for easy go-between. The bunk room has built-in storage staircase mirroring one another for clothing and such (accessible from both the front of the stars and the bottom bunk). The owners of this newly renovated brownstone wanted to create a comfortable environment where the family could get together to relax and watch movies. Without the space for a traditional Home Theater, they wanted a theater quality experience in the living room. They were concerned that too much hardware (cable boxes, speakers, TV stand, etc.) would intrude on their living space. So, we installed an Invisible Surround Sound System, specifically designed to blend in with drywall (You can even paint or wallpaper over it), and recessed the Smart TV so the screen is flush with the wall. Challenge: Can you create intimacy in an open 1.5 acre space? Solved: The long, clean lines of this exemplar of modernist landscape architecture are punctuated by multiple strategically separated seating and lounge areas.
