In the winter months that somehow always seem to last at least forever (or even longer, if that's possible), we tend to neglect the spaces of our patios. Mostly because there is no sane reason for us to even exist there. What's the point of being there if it's way too cold to get out of the house unless getting out is absolutely necessary? No point at all. But while we sit at our homes and enjoy the warmth they provide, everything on our patios is left to die in a slow, miserable death. One of our first collaborations was the light fixture that would grace the main two-story entry hall. HiiH Lights in Astoria, Oregon, was commissioned to bring “the function of light, the craft of paper, and the art of sculpture” to the home. Visiting the maker’s space – a massive barn on his coastal property – was such an inspiring adventure! Original work by the resident artist sets an ethereal tone in the space, and an antique bench handsomely blends the old with the new. A wall that divided the home’s living room and kitchen was removed, and the breezy and bright gathering room was born. Light walls, warm wood tones, cozy upholstery, clean lines and heritage elements create a welcoming atmosphere and invite lounging and conversation. The sun-drenched nook is the home’s main indoor dining area, with an extension table and sculpted chairs that are just right for family gatherings or morning rituals with the Sunday paper. The kitchen is a chef’s dream with every modern amenity, but its casual attitude is “let’s make a mess and eat!” The owner’s artwork graces the mantel over the new fireplace that was carved from a tree felled on the property, illustrating the thoughtful consideration of each element. The muted wool area rugs in the entryways and great room are hard-wearing for farm life, and the furniture’s classic lines, bold contrasting colors, deep seating and soft textures encourage cozy conversations or large group gatherings. The library is undoubtedly our favorite space in this home. Tucked in “speakeasy style” behind a hidden (wallpapered!) door in the moody wet bar, and drenched in deep green, the room offers a quiet retreat that hugs you in an embrace of books and family photos. The cozy settee nestled between the bookcases sits opposite a custom pair of modern cognac leather wing chairs. The area rug continues the storied look without the antique price tag with a piece from Loloi’s “Heritage Collection.” A little va-va-voom was requested for the powder bath and boy did we deliver! Custom wallpaper plays over original wainscotting and ceilings wrapped in more glorious green. The space evokes joy every time you open the door! A primary suite that would “transport us to another world” and be “classic yet modern, peaceful, collected and uncluttered” was a tall order. Our new furniture layout takes full advantage of the view of wine country hills and the Willamette River, welcomes fireside lounging, and serves as a calm respite for the lovely owners. This project involved remodeling the main floor living areas as well as the lower level family room. We updated the spaces by adding new wood flooring, lighting, paint, window treatments and new custom furniture. We created a functional lower level fit for a family movie night or game time. A large (and incredibly comfortable) leather sofa with custom ottoman wrapped in commercial fabric allow for the space to be used by grand kids of all ages. In addition, we transformed the owner’s bath suite into a luxe retreat, complete with an inviting soaking tub with a floor-mounted tub spout that makes you feel like you’re next to a waterfall. This 1980’s bathroom has been replaced with a modern, crisp aesthetic featuring white wood cabinets set against soft neutral gray walls, contemporary brushed nickel finishes, and beautiful LVP plank flooring in warm wood tones. The clean, simple lines throughout give this bath a spa-like feel. Even the mirrors were cleverly designed to set into the wall to maximize their function as medicine cabinets. Our new furniture layout takes full advantage of the view of wine country hills and the Willamette River, welcomes fireside lounging, and serves as a calm respite for the lovely owners. db landscaping LLC was involved in designing a master plan for this Lake Sunapee property. Selective thinning of existing vegetation allowed for framed views of the lake and Mount Sunapee beyond without sacrificing privacy for the homeowners or the environmental integrity of this steep lakeside site. A new driveway alignment improved the arrival experience and improved function. A large gas fire pit was set within a natural stone patio with easy access to interior gathering spaces and fantastic perched views of the lake and mountain. Native plantings set amongst oversized stone boulders were used throughout the landscape to further enhance the natural beauty of the property.

One of our first collaborations was the light fixture that would grace the main two-story entry hall. HiiH Lights in Astoria, Oregon, was commissioned to bring “the function of light, the craft of paper, and the art of sculpture” to the home. Visiting the maker’s space – a massive barn on his coastal property – was such an inspiring adventure! Original work by the resident artist sets an ethereal tone in the space, and an antique bench handsomely blends the old with the new. A wall that divided the home’s living room and kitchen was removed, and the breezy and bright gathering room was born. Light walls, warm wood tones, cozy upholstery, clean lines and heritage elements create a welcoming atmosphere and invite lounging and conversation. The client wanted an open concept layout between the kitchen and the dining/living area. This involved opening up the wall in between the dining and kitchen area, installing a kitchen countertop into the opening and creating a bar seating concept facing the kitchen. This involved extensive new framing, new electrical rough-in, new roughed in plumbing and entirely new kitchen cabinet install. This contemporary living area used the fireplace wall as the focal point to this part of the room. A large-format ceramic tile was applied on to a built-out fireplace facade. This included an inset TV wall mount above the fireplace to give it that clean, modern, contemporary high-end look. Overall, we created a spacious, open concept layout giving the space a much larger feel.

This modern kitchen in a high-rise offers breathtaking city views, including the iconic Space Needle. Sleek, light wood-toned cabinetry and white countertops create a clean and contemporary space. A glass dining table with unique wooden supports is set for a meal, complemented by stylish gray chairs. A modern chandelier illuminates the dining area, enhancing the sophisticated urban aesthetic.

Featured here are pictures of our recently completed commercial project in Edmond. The project involved the removal of over 500 cubic yards of native soil, rock and clay; to make a cut for an enormous retaining wall that we built with Pavestone Company gravity block, and for site prep to accommodate the pad needed for the store. City code required us to install a rail at the top of the wall for safety because of its height. Nearly 50 native trees and 150 shrubs from the local Total Environment Wholesale Nursery set this project in a fairly natural setting as well as a state of the art irrigation system to have adequate water to maintain the health of the plants and Canadian Valley Sod Farm turf installed. The store has had a record breaking launch and will prove to be a welcomed asset to the I-35 corridor. It was a pleasure working with the team from Whataburger and the attentive engineers from the City of Edmond.
