Party Palace - Custom Ranch on Acreage in Ridgefield Washington by Cascade West Development Inc. This family is very involved with their church and hosts community events weekly; so the need to access the kitchen, seating areas, dining and entryways with 100+ guests present was imperative. This prompted us and the homeowner to create extra square footage around these amenities. The kitchen also received the double island treatment. Allowing guests to be hosted at one of the larger islands (capable of seating 5-6) while hors d'oeuvres and refreshments can be prepared on the smaller more centrally located island, helped these happy hosts to staff and plan events accordingly. Placement of these rooms relative to each other in the floor plan was also key to keeping all of the excitement happening in one place, making regular events easy to monitor, easy to maintain and relatively easy to clean-up. A tea pot, being a vessel, is defined by the space it contains, it is not the tea pot that is important, but the space. Crispin Sartwell Located on a lake outside of Milwaukee, the Vessel House is the culmination of an intense 5 year collaboration with our client and multiple local craftsmen focused on the creation of a modern analogue to the Usonian Home. As with most residential work, this home is a direct reflection of it’s owner, a highly educated art collector with a passion for music, fine furniture, and architecture. His interest in authenticity drove the material selections such as masonry, copper, and white oak, as well as the need for traditional methods of construction. The initial diagram of the house involved a collection of embedded walls that emerge from the site and create spaces between them, which are covered with a series of floating rooves. The windows provide natural light on three sides of the house as a band of clerestories, transforming to a floor to ceiling ribbon of glass on the lakeside. The Vessel House functions as a gallery for the owner’s art, motorcycles, Tiffany lamps, and vintage musical instruments – offering spaces to exhibit, store, and listen. These gallery nodes overlap with the typical house program of kitchen, dining, living, and bedroom, creating dynamic zones of transition and rooms that serve dual purposes allowing guests to relax in a museum setting. Being part of a team of that transformed a newly built DC rooftop deck into a year-round outdoor retreat required a seamless collaboration of talents. Together with the acclaimed Tomi Landis and Landis Architects-Builders, we added layered beauty to planters surrounding this gorgeous rooftop space, blending lush greenery, modern design, and thoughtful details. To achieve this, we introduced a mix of perennial shrubs, trees, and vibrant seasonal annuals, creating layers of texture and color that change with the seasons. A custom water feature and expertly placed lighting added both tranquility and ambiance, elevating the overall experience of the space. Executing this project involved meticulous planning and precision logistics. All materials—including large containers, trees, shrubs, soil, and structural elements—were craned to the rooftop, ensuring no detail was overlooked. Dark, contemporary planters were selected to create a cohesive perimeter around the expansive deck, offering a polished and unified look while framing the breathtaking city views. With the rooftop fully exposed to the sun, plant selection focused on hardy, sun-loving species to ensure long-term vitality. Multiple crews worked in tandem to deliver a seamless installation, balancing efficiency with craftsmanship. The client purchased a mature, small, NAPA Valley vineyard to be their home and for personal enjoyment. Once they began converting their new "hobby" grapes into wine, they soon realized they needed a place to "age" their labors and a place to then enjoy them. They decided to design such a place within the confines of their home where they could entertain family and friends. The structure was modified to allow storage of more than 200 individual bottles, cases, and magnum size bottles. A cask room was added as was a well-appointed tasting room. The storage area is separated from the tasting and social area by a tempered glass doors and windows. The space to be converted was a challenge. No surface was plumb or level, therefore, the remodel involved interior walls, new floors and ceilings. Until these issues were addressed, the beautiful cabinet work, and a complete temperature and humidity control system to store, maintain, and enjoy the wine could not be started. The floors had to be floated out and chases with faux finishes provided for HVAC and electrical. Lighting in the tasting room is provided by a series of recessed and puck lights. The bar/counter area is highlighted by a custom, Tiffany style chandelier. Enough space was left in front of the bar to accommodate two serving tables for food and snacks, with plenty of room to move about the space. Discreetly hidden behind the bar is a large capacity cooler that can chill several bottles at once. The bar is capped with eight lineal feet of Calcutta Gold Marble and sports a brass foot rail. The bar has grape panels between Acanthus Corbels and the bottle storage cabinet areas are a unique blend of Acanthus overlays under precisely cut and mitered grape design crown molding over and around a cleverly designed bottle storage system. Traffic flow is achieved through the multiple points of entry through any of three pairs of 6' custom double doors which, when weather permitting, can remain open while entertaining. The host and hostess can attend food and beverage service from behind and around the bar through a separate doorway. The temperature controlled cask storage area is large enough for the clients' current needs, and can accommodate a larger number of casks should the need arise. The floor and walls of the cask room are designed for easy maintenance.. Both rooms are delightfully decorated with earthen tone faux finishes on walls, ceilings and floors reminiscent of a nonspecific European wine making region. This effect is extended to the soffits in the tasting room. A unique wine racking system is easily stored, providing even greater ability to maintain and move about the storage area.

At Muriel Ave. in Toronto, we undertook a comprehensive renovation project that focused primarily on the main floor, with additional updates to the flooring on the second floor. The main floor was transformed by removing walls to create a more open and spacious concept. This allowed for better flow and usability, enhancing the overall aesthetic and functional appeal of the home. A significant part of the renovation involved enlarging the window opening above the kitchen counter and installing a new side door. Both features were fitted with specialized European black trim windows, adding a sleek, modern touch to the space. In the living area, we installed a beautiful, modern gas fireplace that serves as a focal point, providing both warmth and ambiance. The staircase received a notable upgrade with new maple treads and a striking black aluminum railing complemented by glass panels, blending safety with contemporary design. One of the most distinctive features of this renovation is the full glass wall by the stairs, which extends to cover the opening to the basement. This not only adds a sense of openness but also allows natural light to permeate through multiple levels of the home. The kitchen was redesigned into an L-shaped layout with an island, optimizing both functionality and aesthetics. The inclusion of a brick backsplash above the stove offers a rustic yet stylish contrast to the modern kitchen fixtures. The client also chose to retain the existing powder room off to the side of the kitchen, preserving a convenient and practical feature. On the second floor, we replaced the flooring, ensuring a cohesive and modern look throughout the house. The final product of this renovation is truly stunning, showcasing an eclectic blend of new and old design elements.
