The master suite enjoys breathtaking views of iconic Camelback Mountain and a beautiful custom fireplace. The homeowners made a conscious decision to keep TVs out of the bedrooms, instead relying on plush furnishings and luxe textiles to set a relaxing mood. DOWNLOAD NOW This unit, located in a 4-flat owned by TKS Owners Jeff and Susan Klimala, was remodeled as their personal pied-à-terre, and doubles as an Airbnb property when they are not using it. Jeff and Susan were drawn to the location of the building, a vibrant Chicago neighborhood, 4 blocks from Wrigley Field, as well as to the vintage charm of the 1890’s building. The entire 2 bed, 2 bath unit was renovated and furnished, including the kitchen, with a specific Parisian vibe in mind. Although the location and vintage charm were all there, the building was not in ideal shape -- the mechanicals -- from HVAC, to electrical, plumbing, to needed structural updates, peeling plaster, out of level floors, the list was long. Susan and Jeff drew on their expertise to update the issues behind the walls while also preserving much of the original charm that attracted them to the building in the first place -- heart pine floors, vintage mouldings, pocket doors and transoms. Because this unit was going to be primarily used as an Airbnb, the Klimalas wanted to make it beautiful, maintain the character of the building, while also specifying materials that would last and wouldn’t break the budget. Susan enjoyed the hunt of specifying these items and still coming up with a cohesive creative space that feels a bit French in flavor. Parisian style décor is all about casual elegance and an eclectic mix of old and new. Susan had fun sourcing some more personal pieces of artwork for the space, creating a dramatic black, white and moody green color scheme for the kitchen and highlighting the living room with pieces to showcase the vintage fireplace and pocket doors. Today's top architectural styles are reflected in this impressive yet inviting design, which features the best of cottage, Tudor and farmhouse styles. The exterior includes board and batten siding, stone accents and distinctive windows. Indoor/outdoor spaces include a three-season porch with a fireplace and a covered patio perfect for entertaining. Inside, highlights include a roomy first floor, with 1,800 square feet of living space, including a mudroom and laundry, a study and an open plan living, dining and kitchen area. Upstairs, 1400 square feet includes a large master bath and bedroom (with 10-foot ceiling), two other bedrooms and a bunkroom. Downstairs, another 1,300 square feet await, where a walk-out family room connects the interior and exterior and another bedroom welcomes guests.

They were very excited to have a home reflecting the true west coast sensibility: ocean tones mixed with neutrals, modern art and playful elements, and of course durability and comfort for all the kids and guests. The pool area and kitchen got total overhauls (thanks to Jeff with Black Cat Construction) and we added a fun wine closet below the staircase. They trusted the vision of the design and made few requests for changes. And the end result was even better than they expected. Inspiration for an eclectic master dark wood floor and brown floor bedroom remodel in Atlanta with gray walls

This tiny hall outside the bed and bathrooms was the perfect space to add a little character and charm. The floors were unlevel and the walls weren't plumb, so we put down a small seagrass area rug and layered and antique one over it to impart warmth and style. The antique, French console was narrow enough to provide a drop area for small items and a lamp. The Carrie Penley deer art is a lovely, modern nod to the mountain setting. Hammer & Hand and architect Kevin Fischer (of Alice Design) and Charlotte Cooney (of Domestic Arts) transformed an exposed and underutilized yard area into a space for entertaining, relaxing, and guest quarters. The team turned an underused detached garage into a stylish and comfortable 480 SF accessory dwelling unit with it’s own patio area.
