The apartment is located in a dreamy Chaillot area near Passy Water reservoirs and Arc de Triomphe in Paris XVI. The property is filled with lots of natural light and offers magnificent views straight to the water. We can even spot the Eiffel Tower. The brief was to create a welcoming, modern yet cozy space filled with original art, modern and vintage timeless furniture and collectibles, mixing them with some already client’s owned furniture and art. The most important task was to source an exceptional dining table for 13 people to make family and friends’ jaws drop and make client’s heart jump from excitement. The client wanted to feel herself at home for the next several years of living at this rented property and wanted this interior to be her own reflection. This mid-century modern party pad exudes an untouchable spirit of Beverly Hills leaning back to the 60s and jumping forward to today’s smart home living. The house, located in the esteemed Trousdale Estates, is all about lifestyle and with a full Savant Systems integration, there is not a space forgotten. Escape to the dedicated home theater where the 140” screen will dominate or make a drink and take in the view of LA from the pool. Collapse the house walls, let the TVs down and you can bet that this place is anything but boring.

The challenge for this couple was how to transform this historic Hinsdale century home (her childhood home) into their own, while honoring its heritage. The couple had updated the fireplace and lighting, but were stuck on furniture and decor. Woven shades, which were added in the 1900's, were a jumping-off point to add organic materials: acacia and river rock c-tables, rustic dough bowl, wood bar stools, mudcloth pillows, handwoven cotton throw, a stone coffee table as well as high-top bar table. Overall, the sense of the room is light, bright, yet calm.

When thinking of historic Saratoga, modern styling isn’t always the first thing to come to mind. Not for these clients…their home features sharp architectural details and oversized views of the lake. Prior to jumping into the kitchen project with Designer Justina Auer & Project Manager Steve Shanholtz, phase one included freshening up and adding a stacked laundry unit to an upstairs bathroom. Removing the laundry closet from the makeshift pantry area set the precedent for a more functional Butler’s Pantry which now includes a wet bar for beverages enjoyed in the morning or evening, a speed oven with warming drawer and tons of pantry storage. Like a domino effect, the Butler’s Pantry freed up the possibilities in the kitchen. The overall layout of the kitchen did not change, but tweaks were made to make it more functional to entertain and cook. Lead Carpenter Vinny Augustine executed the vision impeccably. Both the main & island sinks increased in size to allow two chefs to work in the space, while moving the fridge down created a large gadget & appliance garage storage. When Chris B. came to us about building a solarized barn on his Hillsboro property we jumped at the opportunity to design a perfectly situated solar roof. Given the location, the optimal tilt and orientation for maximum annual solar resource is a 35 degree tilt and 183 azimuth, making the Tilt and Orientation Factor (TOF) a perfect 100%!
