This wonderful bespoke country kitchen was designed and built for our clients’ new oak-framed extension at their Grade II listed home in the historic village of Billingshurst in West Sussex. Acorn Bespoke Carpentry and Joinery undertook the entire kitchen project which includes a hidden walk-in pantry, bar unit and solid hardwood windows.
The owners wanted to achieve a high-quality interior that stayed true to the traditional character and heritage of their property. Their keen eye for design is evident in their chosen sophisticated colour palette and finishes.
An AGA® was to be a focal point and key feature of the kitchen layout, and we designed the cabinetry to align perfectly with the extra depth and height of the cooker, leaving no unsightly gaps.
There are no upper wall cabinets in this kitchen which creates an open airy feel and allows more natural light. Instead, a run of generous base cabinets with customised deep drawers and pull-outs, as well as a kitchen island, open shelving and large pantry provide a wealth of superb storage solutions. One empty wall has been dedicated for full-height floor to ceiling cabinets for integrated appliances and a pantry.
Traditional style with a modern twist
The custom-made cabinets have been traditionally constructed in an authentic shaker-style and feature solid oak dovetailed drawers. The doors and frames are in solid maple, which has a smooth grain and is an extremely hard and durable timber, and perfect for taking a painted finish.
The cabinets are all spraypainted in Fired Earth Moon Grape, a deliciously distinctive purple-black colour. We then hand painted exterior surfaces for a textured effect which can also be easily touched up in the future. The shaker style in this striking dark colour adds grandeur to the space, without feeling too overbearing or showy.
All the kitchen cabinets are internally finished with premium quality Egger MFC. The hardwearing Unistone worktops are Nero Assoluto with a Velluto finish - a durable, jet black, velvet-like black texture, which gives depth without gloss.
Hidden walk-in pantry
Floor-to-ceiling doors neatly conceal an impressive hidden walk-in pantry, which we cleverly integrated into the overall kitchen design. As soon as you open the doors, the interior shelves are automatically illuminated by a motion-activated sensor. Every inch of space has been utilised with a range of open shelving laden with artisan ingredients, deep handcrafted drawers and basket storage, perfect for storing anything from vegetables to fresh bread.
Beautiful bespoke bar unit
Innovative pocket doors fold elegantly away to reveal a stunning well-equipped bar with a vibrant pink glass back panel and painted interior. This bright pink is a signature colour from the 1970s - Leather by Little Greene. The colour is a strategic choice by our clients to create a statement and infuse their home with an uplifting, spirited atmosphere. Undershelf lighting and a spotlight are activated as soon as the doors are opened enhancing the wow factor.
Bespoke freestanding island featuring upcycled wood
A focal point of the room, the kitchen island provides extra storage and worktop space. We handcrafted the island in solid hardwood with the top was once our clients’ old French dining table which we repurposed. Reusing old wood creates beautiful and unique pieces of furniture and has significant environmental benefits too. The mantle above the range cooker is salvaged timber too, made from an old oak beam.

Upgraded countertops are one of the most valuable assets you can have in your home. Granite remains the favorite choice for kitchens and bathrooms, and the benefits it offers are abundant. Not only do granite countertops invite daily enjoyment and utility, they can also increase the value and desirability of your home, and give you a higher return on investment (ROI) than many other remodeling projects.
Return On Investment
Remodeling Magazines Cost vs. Value Report, which provides an annual look at individual remodeling projects and their ROI, reported that a minor kitchen remodel returns 79.3 percent ROI. Countertops are a key element of the remodel, along with items such as cabinets, appliances, and flooring.
Upgrading bathroom countertops to granite has a similar impact, with a 70 percent ROI on a minor bathroom renovation.
The ROI is an important factor for those looking to renovate because it presumes an easier home sale at a higher home price.
"Granite or marble countertops will make a home more appealing to buyers than will older countertops made from materials like laminate or wood," said the New York Times.
Easier To Maintain
Granite countertops are also easier to maintain than many others, which can help indecisive remodelers make a choice.
"Marble is softer and more porous than the nearly indestructible granite, and so it can etch (scratch) and stain in a way that granite usually won't," said the kitchen.
Quartz is considered among the easiest surfaces to take care of and is also a growing trend; add a glass mosaic tile backsplash to create a fancy and functional kitchen. Looking to express your more modern side? Try a recycled glass countertop to create a showstopping kitchen that is also friendly to the Earth.
A Better Alternative
Cabinet Refacing: The Smart, Financially Sound Choice
Brand new cabinets are something most of us would love to add to our home. But when we see the cost, those cabinets are often off the table. New cabinets cost thousands of dollars at a minimum and can rise to numbers rivaling a luxury car. Refacing costs a fraction of the cost of new cabinets while providing a fresh new look to your space.
New cabinets can be budget busters
"Most cabinets range from $500 to $1,500 per cabinet box," said Better Homes and Gardens. "Based on an estimated 30 cabinets in an average-size kitchen, you can be looking at a cost of about $15,000-$45,000."
If you're planning a small or midsize renovation, that could eat up your whole budget. Refacing instead of replacing can save you money and time, allowing you to use those funds in another area or simply lowering your renovation cost.
"Fans of refacing say this mini-makeover can give a kitchen a whole new look at a much lower cost than installing all-new cabinets," said HGTV. "Cabinet refacing can save up to 50 percent compared to the cost of replacing.

When it comes time to sell your home or retail space, custom millwork will improve the value and attract more buyers. If the cabinets in your kitchen are run down, outdated, or bland, potential customers will view that as a project they will have to conduct after the purchase. Custom Millwork could entice them to choose a house that would not require as much updating and may even cause them to extend an offer below what you are hoping to receive for your home. The kitchen and bathrooms are two key spaces that buyers seek out and directly affect the value of your home. When these areas are visually appealing and customized, it will greatly benefit you when it comes time to sell your home or other space.

In many regards, little has changed at New Hampshire’s Squam Lake in the nearly 35 years since the classic movie On Golden Pond was filmed there. The lake is still a generational favorite for family getaways and vacations in a traditional setting. But now, beautifully designed and strikingly contemporary residences are being constructed among the classic old cabins. A good example is the new Squam Lake House that is the year-round vacation retreat for a large and active family.
Design for the 3,500 sq. ft. residence was significantly influenced by the site. The south-facing house follows the natural topography along the shoreline to maximize views and the passive solar effect. The building includes three linked masses called “wigwams” that include family bedrooms, communal living spaces and guest areas. “A part of the narrative was to reference the Native American culture of the area,” according to designer Patrick Kane, principal, Kane Architecture, East Hardwick, VT. “The large architectural zinc panels on the façade were meant to be reminiscent of the Abenaki Tribe wigwams which were made of large slabs of bark."
Approximately 7,500 sq. ft. of RHEINZINK prePATINA blue-grey Standing Seam Panels were utilized in both roof and façade applications. Low or no maintenance was a key factor in the design from the beginning. “The owner didn’t want to own a single bucket of exterior paint,” Kane said. “We considered several metals initially but quickly settled on the RHEINZINK. We really liked the color of the prePATINA blue-grey. It has color qualities similar to the beech trees on the site and we really wanted the building to blend into the natural environment. We also liked the embodied energy. So we basically selected the RHEINZINK because of its environmental benefits and the unique color.
”With its passive solar effect, triple glazing and superior insulation, the structure provides outstanding energy efficiency. “The hot tub takes more energy than it requires to heat the entire house,” according to Kane. The Standing Seam Panels were installed by European Custom Sheet Metal (formerly Vintage Sheet Metal), Salem, NH. RHEINZINK distributor Beacon Sales, Brockton, MA, fabricated the architectural panels.

Key to renovating this 4-story urban townhouse was introducing supplemental skylights and light wells. The living room on the second floor benefits not only from having light on three sides, but features a living “green wall” that uses plants to passively balance the humidity of the house, and actively filter the air.

In less than 90 days after work began, a dated kitchen is brought back to life with current trends and technologies, along with a neutral color palette.
Introduced to Progressive Design Build from a trusted referral, Mike and Holly approached their kitchen remodel with some trepidation. They had interviewed several contractors who were unsuccessful at solving key traffic flow issues around an island cabinet they wanted—until they met Progressive.
As restaurant owners, the husband and wife team were very familiar with remodeling contractors, having renovated many restaurants in the past. Design/build remodeling, however, was new to them. After learning more about the benefits of working with a design/build firm, Mike and Holly met with Progressive’s certified kitchen and bath designer, Betty Appleby. They understood immediately the value of teaming up with design and construction professionals early in the process.
Mike and Holly had done a lot of their own research and were clear about what they wanted. They had visions of an island cabinet being more usable and accessible. Progressive Design Build brought that vision to life.
While the project was under construction, the homeowners avoided the noise and dust by taking frequent trips to Europe and New York, trusting the entire remodeling project to Progressive Design Build. When they returned, all aspects of their functional and stylistic design needs were met.
Details of the finished project include a faux finish copper range hood, custom cabinetry, new stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, a new wet bar adjacent to the kitchen, and porcelain tile flooring throughout. The refrigerator was disguised using custom cabinet appliance panels, effectively integrating it with the cabinetry wall for a unified look.
This project was completed on time and on budget. As a result, the homeowners hired Progressive Design Build to complete two more home remodeling projects for them.

A garage with a twist - still safe for parking that very expensive vehicle but in terms of design value, an outstanding space worthy of a proper stare... yes, lets linger for a moment shall we?
The garage – noun – a building for housing a motor vehicle or vehicles. That’s it? Really? No features?
Usually not decorated and possibly quite boring.
A room with a large door allowing a car to safely enter and exit the space.
May be purposed for storing other items beside vehicles.
May be a very neat, organised space with loads of shelving and cabinets.
Can also be an unorganized space filled with clutter.
In this case the focus is on art. It is just about too beautiful to be a garage. One almost get the feeling that you want to linger in the open door for a while longer to appreciate the splendor before safely parking the car.
The [colored] back wall was done by The Singing Palette company – an abstract of Johannesburg skyline built up with 4mm plaster to create a 3D effect.
The [black and white with blue] side wall is covered in a street scene wallpaper with digitally printed photographic images applied to two perspex panels, designed by The Cow Artworks and Just-Us Crafts.
Collaboration is key! It takes the vision of a single person setting a snowball into motion, delivering an outcome that is above and beyond all expectation. Do you need more reason to be convinced of the benefits of having an Interior Designer on speed dial?
Who would have thought that art belongs in a garage? Only an Interior Designer? Deborah perhaps?
Now, which car would YOU leave in this garage? I have my favorite, what is yours?

Here are some key points you’ll need to go over before you buy a corner sofa:
• It seems obvious, but first think about the shape of the room - is it long and slim? Open planned? Square shaped and cosy? Thinking about the room’s inherent structure will help you decide what kind of corner sofa will make the best use of your living room. For example, our Nebraska corner sofa comes with a storage footstool and so will be useful for those who lack clever storage options. On the other hand, our Evie corner sofa is long and sprawling with elevated feet that lift its base off the ground, bringing a narrow room to life.
• Where is your door placed? Don’t block any entryways with your corner sofa - it should wrap around walls that aren’t obscured by doors or passages. This will also prevent it from damage by swinging doors. You’ll also want to establish airflow so you and your guests don’t feel cramped when trying to socialise and relax.
• Where will other furniture live? Consider pieces like coffee tables, bookshelves, side tables and, of course, your TV unit, where your sofa will probably be pointing its attention towards. If your sofa’s reclinable, like our Goodwood corner sofa, keep space around it clear so there’s plenty of room to put your feet up.
• Where will your light sources be? Positioning your sofa near sources of natural light will provide loads of benefits for your living room, both in terms of design, wellbeing and the ability to perform activities like reading. Alternatively, leave plenty of room for artificial light from lamps to illuminate your seating area.

Alamo Kitchen, Bath & Library Remodel
This Alamo kitchen remodel and full home cabinetry project was designed to blend modern art influences with clean transitional cabinetry throughout the kitchen, bathrooms, library, and laundry. The goal was to create a cohesive, functional space while allowing the homeowner’s artwork to drive key design decisions.
The kitchen features a balanced mix of light cabinetry and a darker island, creating contrast while maintaining a warm, inviting feel. As part of this Alamo kitchen remodel, thoughtful storage solutions and clean lines keep the space highly functional while showcasing the benefits of custom cabinetry.
In the bathrooms, floating vanities were used to create a more open, modern look. The green vanity is a standout feature, with the color carefully pulled from a featured art piece in the home. While the original concept called for an orange cabinet, refining the tone from the artwork allowed for a more sophisticated and integrated design, something we often focus on in our Alamo custom cabinetry projects.
The custom library cabinetry was designed to feel architectural while still practical for everyday use, combining open shelving with lower storage to support both display and organization.
All cabinetry throughout the home was crafted using Shiloh and Shiloh Eclipse lines, delivering a consistent level of quality and finish across every space. This project is a great example of how Alamo custom cabinetry can bring together design, function, and personal style across an entire home.

The goal for this Point Loma home was to transform it from the adorable beach bungalow it already was by expanding its footprint and giving it distinctive Craftsman characteristics while achieving a comfortable, modern aesthetic inside that perfectly caters to the active young family who lives here. By extending and reconfiguring the front portion of the home, we were able to not only add significant square footage, but create much needed usable space for a home office and comfortable family living room that flows directly into a large, open plan kitchen and dining area. A custom built-in entertainment center accented with shiplap is the focal point for the living room and the light color of the walls are perfect with the natural light that floods the space, courtesy of strategically placed windows and skylights. The kitchen was redone to feel modern and accommodate the homeowners busy lifestyle and love of entertaining. Beautiful white kitchen cabinetry sets the stage for a large island that packs a pop of color in a gorgeous teal hue. A Sub-Zero classic side by side refrigerator and Jenn-Air cooktop, steam oven, and wall oven provide the power in this kitchen while a white subway tile backsplash in a sophisticated herringbone pattern, gold pulls and stunning pendant lighting add the perfect design details. Another great addition to this project is the use of space to create separate wine and coffee bars on either side of the doorway. A large wine refrigerator is offset by beautiful natural wood floating shelves to store wine glasses and house a healthy Bourbon collection. The coffee bar is the perfect first top in the morning with a coffee maker and floating shelves to store coffee and cups. Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) flooring was selected for use throughout the home, offering the warm feel of hardwood, with the benefits of being waterproof and nearly indestructible - two key factors with young kids!
For the exterior of the home, it was important to capture classic Craftsman elements including the post and rock detail, wood siding, eves, and trimming around windows and doors. We think the porch is one of the cutest in San Diego and the custom wood door truly ties the look and feel of this beautiful home together.

Building a new home is a momentous occasion. For many, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to create the home of their dreams. However, selecting the perfect home design and floor plan can feel like a daunting task. After all, you want to ensure that your new home will meet your family's needs and desires for years. That's where trusted services come in. With the latest technology, you can design your entire home and even tour it in 3D. From building your 2D floor plan to furnishing it, you can watch as your dream home is brought to life. In this article, we will explore how you can beautifully decorate your home online.
Select the Main Theme
Embarking on a new home design project can be an exciting yet difficult task. One crucial step is to determine your style preference, as it will guide your decor choices throughout your home. Researching through various platforms and furniture websites can provide inspiration and help gauge pricing for your favorite pieces. One helpful strategy is to create a mood board where you gather your favorite interior design looks and examine any patterns that emerge.
By taking the time to establish your preferred style, you can create a cohesive and inviting atmosphere in your home that reflects your personal taste and style. If you want to create a design while traveling, you may need to use a USA VPN to access some online services with advanced home design tools. It will allow you to bypass geo-blocks.
Create a Layout
The global home design market reached $115 billion in 2022. When designing living spaces, several factors must be considered, including the arrangement of social and private areas and accommodating the changing needs of families over time. Parents with young children usually prefer bedrooms and bathrooms to be clustered together while families with teenagers often request more segregated spaces in two-story home designs.
Home design is an intricate art form that involves creating an interior space that is both visually appealing and functional. Whether you are starting afresh with a new home or looking to revamp an existing one, home design offers ample opportunities to unleash your creativity. It does not matter if you lack professional architecture expertise, as anyone can undertake the planning and execution of a home design project.
The initial steps involve analyzing your existing home layout and then conceptualizing your desired vision for the remodel. This is the cornerstone on which your entire project will be built, and it sets the tone for the aesthetic of your home's interior.
Utilize online home design software to generate realistic images of your new home and easily gather feedback from others. This allows you to make necessary adjustments to perfect your design. With the help of professional software, realizing your ideal home design is now made easy and achievable without requiring any specialized training or knowledge. You can access online tools using VeePN for a secure connection. Start by creating a blueprint of your floor plan.
Furnish Your Space
If you need to decorate house, selecting the right flooring and paint or wallpaper for the walls is key. Using online services, you can speed up this process. With intuitive tools such as dragging and dropping items, you can create a truly unique and personalized home design that is sure to impress.
When selecting a color scheme for your design, it is crucial to consider the benefits and drawbacks of using neutral tones versus incorporating a pop of color. While a neutral palette can simplify the design process and provide a timeless look, it may lack individuality or a focal point. Whereas, a splash of color can introduce a dynamic quality, offer intrigue, and contribute to an energetic ambiance. Additionally, combining a range of price points and textures can add dimension to your design. Consider juxtaposing high-end decor with refurbished furniture and incorporating cozy textures like plush rugs and fluffy cushions, to achieve both sophistication and comfort in your space.
Create a 3D Tour
Home design is a craft that involves creating an attractive home interior, irrespective of whether you're starting from scratch or remodeling an existing home. While anyone can undertake a home design project, you don't necessarily need to be a professional architect. The first step to kick-starting your project entails creating an outline of your abode's current status, and then proceeding to blueprint your preferred design. As you piece everything together, you'll be able to turn your creative vision into a tangible reality. The satisfaction derived from transforming your space into the home of your dreams is truly priceless.
As the market size of the interior design industry is projected to grow by over 4% in the next five years, it is clear that such services are in high demand. Home design involves creating an interior space that is both pleasing and functional. With the help of online tools, you can easily create realistic images of your dream home while gathering feedback from others to perfect your vision. As you piece everything together, be sure to consider neutral color palettes, mix price points, and textures, and add accent colors for depth and vibrancy. With a bit of planning and creativity, you can achieve your ideal design in no time!

VIGNETTE® Modern Roman Shades
The Modern Roman Shade
Luxurious fabrics and soft folds give Vignette® Modern Roman Shades a clean, crisp look. Each full or flat fold in the fabric is designed to create a uniform aesthetic that operates seamlessly. The added benefit of no exposed rear cords improves window aesthetics and offers enhanced child safety.
Key Features
Gorgeous Fabrics—Vignette shades are offered in sheer, light-filtering and room-darkening fabric opacities, plus a wide array of colors and textures that includes silks, linens, tweeds and natural weaves.
Premium Design & Style—Explore the richness of texture and warmth offered by The Alustra® Collection of Vignette, a thoughtfully curated suite of exclusive design-inspired fabrics, textures, colors and hardware created to meet the expectations of leading designers and discerning consumers who seek the best in design.
Style Options—Vignette shades are available in two different styles:
• The Rolling Style features a 4” full fold or 6” flat fold and rolls up into the headrail.
• The Stacking Style stacks neatly beneath a low-profile headrail for shallow mounting depths and is available in a 4” full fold.
Consistent Appearance—Vignette shades maintain a consistent, full or flat fold appearance and require minimal fabric dressing when you raise or lower them.
Duolite®—Vignette Duolite Shades combine a light-filtering or sheer front shade with a built-in room-darkening back panel, both housed on a single roller to achieve perfect levels of light and privacy. The single roller is unique to the Roman shades category and allows for less mounting depth than other dual roller systems. The Duolite dual opacity option is available exclusively in the Rolling Style with 6” flat folds and the convenience of PowerView® Automation.
Accents by the Yard™—All Vignette fabrics are available in cut yardage, so you can create decorative accents with matching fabric.

The homeowners' key request was for a double vanity and a double shower wet room, which we made the focal point of the space. The wet room design not only provides a spa-like experience but also offers practical benefits, with separate shower heads and ample space for two. It creates a seamless, open feel while being easy to maintain.
In addition to the wet room, the expanded layout allowed us to include a dedicated vanity space for morning routines, enhancing both convenience and organization. The layout also includes a separate toilet room, adding an extra level of privacy and functionality.
