Black siding transformed this home in Maple Grove. This project left a lasting impression, transforming a home with worn and outdated vinyl siding which had been damaged by hail and Minnesota’s harsh climate, in a lakeside retreat. The homeowners sought a fresh look that would elevate both the aesthetic and functionality of their property, making the most of the beautiful lakeside views. The first major update involved replacing the tired vinyl siding with James Hardie board and batten siding in the striking Shou Sugi Ban color. This deep, rich color brings an elegant, modern look to the home, offering both timeless appeal and exceptional durability. The board and batten style adds texture and sophistication, making the home stand out in the neighborhood. To complement the dark siding, light-colored cultured stone was added to the front and lakeside, creating a beautiful contrast and enhancing the home’s curb appeal. The cultured stone not only adds a natural, rustic feel but also integrates seamlessly with the overall design, providing a warm, inviting entrance and lakeside view. Another key element of the remodel was the transformation of the home’s windows. A bank of smaller windows was removed, replaced by a massive Marvin window that now serves as the focal point of the living room, offering unobstructed views of the serene lake. The project also included the removal of several diamond-shaped windows and a six-foot patio door, which were replaced with a sleek 16-foot patio door. This new installation opened up the space, flooding the home with natural light and creating a seamless connection between the interior and the outdoor beauty of the lake. With these updates, the home in Maple Grove is now a stunning showcase of modern design and functionality, blending sophisticated materials with breathtaking views.

Curb Appeal Paired with Functional Spaces For this project in Watermark, the homeowner wanted to complete the look of their beautiful home with great curb appeal in the front and usable entertaining spaces in the backyard. We started with a landscape design that incorporated all the key elements they were looking for, from feature rocks to patios, irrigation, planting, lighting, and curbing. This property has a perfect mix of contrasting and complimentary product selection and low maintenance for homeowners. *BEFORE PICTURE* This fully virtual design project was a collaboration with a Connecticut-based designer for a young professional woman looking to refresh her bathroom. The goal was to blend mid-century modern elegance with contemporary luxury, creating a sophisticated, functional retreat. I worked around key elements the client already had, like gold faucets and shower hardware, and took charge of selecting everything else—from limestone polished floor tiles to deep green zellige bathroom tiles, a custom toilet room door, wallpaper, and decorative accents. I designed a neutral color palette to complement the tiles and added a gold wall sconce, tying the space together with sophistication. The heated towel rack and matching accents brought warmth to the space, all coordinated online with samples delivered across the country.

These empty-nesters designed their dream “in-town home” by evolving the kitchen in their former home to meet their needs today. The owner loves to entertain, and there were three key elements behind the design to make this kitchen a cook’s dream: accommodating a generous banquette for seating, an L shaped island with two full-sized sinks and dishwashers along with virtually indestructible Pyrolave countertops with integrated drainboards.

this 110 year old home was in dire need of a modern makeover while on a tight budget. material selection was in keeping with the architectural integrity of the historic home. key elements to this kitchen remodel: -kitchen layout was highly functional and remained intact -sheet vinyl floor was replaced with antique heart pine wood floors, maintaining architectural consistency throughout the house -prior to wood floor installation, all lower cabinets were removed so flooring could run properly wall to wall; cabinets were then reinstalled -existing oak cabinetry was in very good working condition, so the wood was embraced and renewed with a dark stain and tung oil finish -wrap-around upper cabinets were removed from the main wall, leaving the side wall with upper storage and additional counter space -new doors with a simple bevel edge were fabricated for the upper storage, eliminating the dated raised panel with cathedral top -laminate countertops were replaced with hard working quartz -opting for the strong visual statement of a field tile vs a stunted backsplash, a larger 4x8 white subway tile runs up the entire wall to the ceiling

The open concept of this beautiful space creates a pleasant and relaxing environment. Several key elements are emphasized by walnut wood, such as the island cabinets, the veneers, and the amazing wine cellar, which instantly attracts attention. Speaking of eye-catchers, you’ve undoubtedly noticed the unique black matte polymer materials that cover some of the kitchen cabinets. Our designers have gone a step further and chose to add TIP-ON touch latch technology to cabinet doors and drawers in order to remove any handles and to make opening and closing easy.

This was an ensuite where the homeowners wanted to create a retreat for themselves. With a steam shower being a key element and a vanity that the homeowner fell in love with, the design began. Finishing with a very unique tile design this space became one of a kind.

The client’s vision for this house and boathouse at Horning on the Norfolk Broads was to provide an exemplary building that is sustainable and graceful in design, complementing and enhancing the setting and providing a legacy for future generations. The extensive use of wood cladding and decking were key elements of LSI architects’ design. However, given that ‘The Haven’ is in a flood zone, surrounded on three sides by water and constantly exposed to a high moisture content in the air, LSI needed to find a wood that they could be confident would deliver durability, dimensional stability and aesthetics. Accoya wood presented the perfect answer. Accoya, supplied by International Timber, was used for cladding and decking. The glue laminated Accoya wood for the curved rear screen was manufactured by Newnham & Abel Ltd and hand finished with a protective merbau-coloured coating from WoodGuard by Guard Industrie. The same finish was factory applied to the cladding.

Another key element of the space is the fireplace. “The fireplace was always there, but by taking out the wall next to it, we allowed more light to flow into the space,” said Shinneman who explained they also removed the red brick frame of the fireplace and installed a stacked stone brick in its place to accentuate the lighter, brighter appeal of the space. The adjoining cut-in for wood storage was similarly framed. On the kitchen side of the fireplace is a recessed cabinet, which is a perfect place to store dog food and dog leashes.
