The client was recently widowed and had been wanting to remodel her kitchen for a long time. Although the floor plan of the space remained the same, the kitchen received a major makeover in terms of aesthetic and function to fit the style and needs of the client and her small dog in this water front residence. The peninsula was brought down in height to achieve a more spacious and inviting feel into the living space and patio facing the water. Shades of gray were used to veer away from the all white kitchen and adding a dark gray entertainment unit really added drama to the space. This craftsman home needed a kitchen update that maximized the storage potential of this home while maintaining the historic character of the era. We installed new DeWils custom cabinetry that extends all the way to the ceiling as well as creating new mudroom storage and built in seating. We installed beautiful soapstone countertops with an undermount farmhouse sink. The show stopper of the kitchen though is the green glazed terracotta backsplash tile. A Gilmans Kitchens and Baths - Design Build Project (REMMIES Award Winning Kitchen) The original kitchen lacked counter space and seating for the homeowners and their family and friends. It was important for the homeowners to utilize every inch of usable space for storage, function and entertaining, so many organizational inserts were used in the kitchen design. Bamboo cabinets, cork flooring and neolith countertops were used in the design. Storage Solutions include a spice pull-out, towel pull-out, pantry pull outs and lemans corner cabinets. Bifold lift up cabinets were also used for convenience. Storage under and behind the bench was used to store pet items. This 80 year old farm house was in need of an update. The kitchen and dining areas were cramped, dark and isolated from one another. The homeowner requested an open floor plan with more storage and space where her children could play while she was busy in the kitchen. Thompson Remodeling flipped the existing positions of the dining room and kitchen and removed walls to open up the space. The new kitchen has bright white cabinets, quartz countertops and an island with a butcher block counter. A custom banquette provides seating and a spot for the kids to play and do homework while its bench doubles as hidden storage. The wet bar in the dining space has loads of pantry space. The existing floors were very uneven, so we used a vinyl plank flooring that would allow more give for installation. It looks just like weathered pine and will offer very easy care for the busy family.

Designed by Kristen Campbell of Reico Kitchen & Bath in Chesapeake, VA this transitional farmhouse kitchen design features Greenfield Cabinetry in two styles and finishes. The perimeter cabinets feature the Jackson-A Inset door style in Glacier Paint with Grey Glaze, complemented by kitchen island cabinets in the Brunswick 275A door style in Juniper Paint with Black Glaze and Heavy Distressing. The perimeter countertop is Black Marble leathered and the island countertop is Grothouse Reclaimed Chestnut. The kitchen also features some appliances by Miele. “This might be one of my most favorite kitchen projects to date. Not just because we created an absolutely stunning finished but the team to make it all come together was top notch,” said Kristen. “It was a complete collaboration between creative and flexible clients, custom Greenfield cabinetry, our season contractor and myself. Every inch of space was well designed and thought out, as showcased with the mix of cabinetry, finishes and textures. This kitchen is a true reflection of the client, a very happy and inviting space.” Added the client, “At 28’ long this was a tough kitchen to design. Kristen was amazing throughout the whole process. We love the inset cabinetry from Greenfield and the Grothouse Reclaimed Chestnut island top. Love every single accessory as well. The entire kitchen is functional and beautiful. DuraSupreme Cabinetry This timeless and classic kitchen informed the main living and lower level renovation with white and grey as the palette, and sophisticated details at every turn. Stylized shaker cabinetry took the cabinets to a new level with chrome hardware, soft close doors, and modern appliances that make it a dream kitchen for any cook. By knocking down the existing dining room wall, the kitchen expanded graciously and now includes a large seated island treated with furniture-like details in a soft dark grey. The white and grey tones play beautifully off the warm hand scraped wood floor that runs throughout the main level, providing a warmth underfoot. Openings were widened to allow for a more open floor plan and an extra wide barn door adds style to the front entrance. Additional dining was added to the former dining room as a breakfast nook complete with storage bench seating. A wine bar is tucked into a corner next to the living area allowing for easy access when entertaining. dRemodeling also built in a custom bookshelf/entertainment area as well as a new mantle and tile surround. The upstairs closet was removed to allow for a larger foyer. The lower level features a newly organized laundry room that is wrapped in traditional wainscoting along one wall and the ceiling. New doors, windows, register cover, and light switch covers were installed to give the space a total and complete makeover, down to the smallest detail. www.dremodeling.com

The Zebrino marble island and backsplash are clearly shown and the LED under-lighting helps to accentuate the beautiful veining throughout the backsplash. This kitchen has since won two awards through NKBA and ASID competitions, and is the crowning jewel of our clients home.
