2012 NARI CAPITAL COTY, MERIT AWARD WINNER, ENTIRE HOUSE UNDER $250,000
After 20 years of living in this split foyer home the owners were ready to do a complete renovation. Because the house was built in late 70’s, windows were small, partition walls separated one room from another and natural light was limited. The kitchen, in particular, was walled off from the rest of the home and had a gold vinyl floor and dark, worn cabinetry. Finally, the lady of the house loves to play her grand piano for company so a conservatory was a must have.
Step one is a 12’ x 33’ angular side addition that is open to both the living and dining rooms. Surrounded with tall windows and touting a vaulted ceiling with embedded lights, the area is now home to a grand piano.
The back portion of the addition has been converted to a long dining room with a beautiful chandelier. Pocketed French doors connect it to the old dining room, which now transitions to a sunroom addition with a vaulted ceiling and large transom windows. A new French door leads onto a new patio and the backyard.
The wall between kitchen and old dining room was removed making it possible to add breakfast area. A large triple window was installed over the sink bringing lots of natural light. A 60” Viking stove with a custom wood mantel is the focal point of the space. A large 48” built-in refrigerator and floor-to-ceiling pantries take up another wall.
Burgundy finished cherry wood cabinetry topped with exotic marble countertops is used around the room’s perimeter and forms a large central island with prep sink. The design has added significant storage and workspace.
The homeowners are more willing than ever to cook, entertain and have friends gather around the piano.

A nice lady, moving from the city, came to us asking to redesign her condo kitchen before she moved in. The small space lacked drama, was low on storage and just didn't feel like home to her. So we found cabinets she loved in both white and dark cherry, removed a wall, and added drawers, a lazy susan and a shallow pantry for storage. An integrated Sub-Zero hides the bulk of the fridge and the copper worked hood adds personality. And, of course, the show stopping blue walls of drama!

Part of a luxury master suite addition, this bathroom offers the homeowners a comfortable, spa-like experience. The spacious 11’ x 12’ layout uses calming colors and plenty of natural light via a skylight to set a relaxing tone for this space.
A large, glass enclosed shower stall features a built-in bench with both regular and hand-held shower heads. Storage niches inside the flagstone tiles store soap, shampoo and other must haves. If the owners opt for a bath, a “tea for two” whirlpool tub is ideal for a soaking.
A large, furniture-quality custom vanity is topped by a dark granite countertop and contrasting white vessel his and her sinks. A full-width mirror is ideal for getting ready in the morning and the vanity itself offers significant storage space.
A glass block privacy wall separates the commode from the rest of the space.
Tucked away on the second floor behind the master bedroom, the lady of the house refers to this beautiful space as her “sacred place.”

We named this space. "The Commander"s Nest". This compact space served as command central for the lady of the house who is both a creative force with international design projects, and a mother with children’s lives to organize bills to pay and a staff to maintain. With its custom crafted cabinetry and island it appears to be a charming cottage. But beneath this façade lies a well oiled machine enabling her to fulfill her roles in a creative atmosphere. In her sanctuary while lounging on plush upholstery she can relax, read and let her imagination wander.
The design inspiration for the room is the eclectic combination of rustic and contemporary design, custom crafted by British Home Emporium. Colorful finishes and natural materials are combined with touches of whimsical artistry. All custom furniture utilizes environmentally friendly materials and processes and draws in the nature and beauty of the gardens.
