How do you expand an L shaped Eichler with the challenge of extending a long dark entry? Klopf Architecture's solution, to design a light filled atrium in the hallway to open up the bedroom expansion with green plants, sky lights and a glass wall. Not to mention the thoughtfulness of a blind door with wood siding similar to the rest of the home. Previously, a window of frosted glass block punctuated the hallway. Unfortunately, it overlooked a perpetually dark courtyard and illuminated nothing. I changed this into an art installation of light. With its multiple settings, one can rotate through a selection of colors to wash the space in colored light, instantly changing the mood and feel of the space. The portal is seen here in lime green. A dark backyard was given a new life with dramatic additions of built in planting beds, custom cut salvaged pavers, green screen trellis and a ton of charm. The reclaimed barn doors add a focal point to the east wall while the custom built two-tier planting system allows vines to fill this garden which spans two floors of the client's home.

The client knew that it was about time to get a new kitchen and replace it with the original kitchen that came with the house. However, she had already bar stools in the lime mint green color, it she wanted to implement this color into the color scheme of the new kitchen design. With the ability of Alno to provide NCS colors to their collection of the smooth lacquer door style, we had created a nice balance combination between the lime mint green color and a nice arctic white color. This amazing combination of colors gave immediately a fresh clean feeling to this well designed kitchen layout.
