Although the natural rise along the back was perfectly suited to the design, special precautions had to be taken to avoid encroaching on the roots of the massive trees. The landscape architect is also an arborist so that issue was expertly handled, as was the addition of mature trees and shrubs to enhance privacy.

This exquisite Gunite pool/tanning shelf/spa graces a neo classic home on Lake Ontario in Oakville. It was a Coulson Fine Homes project with design by Daniel O’Brien Landscape and landscape installation by Rolla Landscape. Betz had the honour of being chosen to build the pool and spa.

This family in Georgetown decided to create a backyard oasis which would be the focal point for fun during the summer. The overall look is a classic take on modern design which complements the traditional architecture of the home. Care was taken to balance patio space with ample lawn area for children’s play.

There's no lawn to worry about here, this is the full backyard. The home's patio doors open onto a cedar deck that extends over the edge of the pool lending the feeling of a "dock," complete with round posts. The pool's dark liner gives a natural pond look, while a limestone rock feature with water flowing from several points adds the drama of a waterfall. The entry stairs are bordered by Wiarton flagstone coping and a small deck in architectural stamped concrete. Privacy fencing punctuated by pocket gardens of greenery complete this tranquil poolscape. (16 x 27, custom free form)

An urban ravine lot perfectly accommodates this exquisite aquatic retreat. A multi-level look is achieved with the slightly raised pool, elevated spillover spa and semi-circular stone wall with waterfall. The small grotto underneath is a haven for privacy while the underwater benches invite lounging. The Wiarton flagstone walls and deck add a natural touch. A special sound-proofed equipment shed was constructed in deference to the neighbours, it allows for year round use of the spa. (9 x 18, custom shape)

The master bedroom features a chandelier that can only be described as "dreamy" from Toronto company Unitfive (via Avenue Road). The bed is from RH, the bassinet from Monte, and the TV stand is by a German company called Wissmann Raumobjekte. To make the most of the limited space, we kept storage limited to the closet area. At Betz we pride ourselves in rising to any design challenge whether it's a small yard, steep slope or conservation concerns. Although diminutive in size, this inviting 'plunge pool' makes a big impression with its dramatic zero-edge wall and top-of-slope location. Finished in white Armourcoat with a blue quartz fleck, it features both an underwater bench and semi-circular steps decoratively edged in tile. Wiarton flagstone decking and coping define the attractive seating area. (13 x 27, custom shape)
