Accoya wood has been used to create cladding, windows, doors, decking and guttering in family home in Sweden. The home, which is located in the north of Stockholm has been designed by Kalle Lilja of local construction and joinery firm Rejal Bygg. Kalle wanted to create a luxury family home for the property market, which would push the boundaries of design and innovation and would require as little maintenance as possible. To deliver the project he turned to Sweden’s Accoya distributor, CEOS, and the company’s managing director Urban Stenevi. Together they decided to use Accoya for the project. Accoya met their build objective of delivering a property which required little maintenance, however Kalle was intrigued by Accoya and wanted to push it to its limits so he could realise the product’s full potential.

This Grant Park house was built in 1999. With that said, this bathroom was dated, builder grade with a tiny shower (3 ft x 3 ft) and a large jacuzzi-style 90s tub. The client was interested in a much larger shower, and he really wanted a sauna if squeeze it in there. Because this bathroom was tight, I decided we could potentially go into the large walk-in closet and expand to include a sauna. The client was looking for a refreshing coastal theme, a feel good space that was completely different than what existed. This dark, dreary kitchen was large, but not being used well. The family of 7 had outgrown the limited storage and experienced traffic bottlenecks when in the kitchen together. A bright, cheerful and more functional kitchen was desired, as well as a new pantry space. We gutted the kitchen and closed off the landing through the door to the garage to create a new pantry. A frosted glass pocket door eliminates door swing issues. In the pantry, a small access door opens to the garage so groceries can be loaded easily. Grey wood-look tile was laid everywhere. We replaced the small window and added a 6’x4’ window, instantly adding tons of natural light. A modern motorized sheer roller shade helps control early morning glare. Three free-floating shelves are to the right of the window for favorite décor and collectables. White, ceiling-height cabinets surround the room. The full-overlay doors keep the look seamless. Double dishwashers, double ovens and a double refrigerator are essentials for this busy, large family. An induction cooktop was chosen for energy efficiency, child safety, and reliability in cooking. An appliance garage and a mixer lift house the much-used small appliances. An ice maker and beverage center were added to the side wall cabinet bank. The microwave and TV are hidden but have easy access. The inspiration for the room was an exclusive glass mosaic tile. The large island is a glossy classic blue. White quartz countertops feature small flecks of silver. Plus, the stainless metal accent was even added to the toe kick! Upper cabinet, under-cabinet and pendant ambient lighting, all on dimmers, was added and every light (even ceiling lights) is LED for energy efficiency. White-on-white modern counter stools are easy to clean. Plus, throughout the room, strategically placed USB outlets give tidy charging options.

This residential building in Sausalito, CA was originally constructed following WWII as a "vertical duplex" with two identical 800 square feet bedroom units stacked one on top of the other over a full height crawl space. We begin with two existing and one potential floor levels. The project's goal was to combine the two units into one single family residence; and to develop the former crawl space as the Owner's study (and future accessory in-law unit). New internal stairs communicate between the three floors; and the interior was reconfigured to meet 21st Century living needs within the existing, limited floor plate. The upslope lot provides views to the San Francisco Bay. Living functions are located on the top floor to capitalize on the vistas from outdoor living on the new exterior, ipe deck. The completely new Kitchen, expanding into borrowed space from a former closet is contiguous with and expands the living area. Each floor's bath is also completely new - providing a spacious feel within the limits of each floor's square footage. Prior to replacing all interior finishes, the structure was upgraded to comply with current seismic demands. Exterior decks running the depth of the residence were reconstructed; the cable rail system between posts increases one's sense of view to the Bay. At the point of transition from street/parking to the Owner's deck, an organic, hand-forged entry gate welcomes one home.
