Waterview Times Two It is all about view here where river meets sea. The “new home” (actually an addition) is well-positioned on the site. Views are framed in traditional double hung windows with a six lites over one lite configuration. The waterside elevations are clad in a variety of multi-leaf sliding glass doors for view and access to the outdoor decks. For these glass panels, a simple “top row” of lites fits the bill. Here they seem to say, “I’m a traditionalist, but I’m walking a modern edge along the shore to promote better view, light and connection to the water.” The views require no detailing or enhancements, but the house does. The roofline is unmistakably traditional. It keeps the roof line low, a must for a structure designed to conform with the FEMA prescribed BFE (Base Flood Elevation.) The exterior comes to life thanks to generous trim at the rake, fascia, soffits and frieze boards of the traditional gambrel roof. A skin of cedar shingles at 5” exposure reinforces the site-specific design. As you look around everywhere on this vacation peninsula, you’ll notice the consistency of weathered shingled exteriors. Its “dormered” second floor is tucked nicely in the roofline to also make sure it fits within the context of the neighboring older homes. Because the coastal FEMA regulations pushed our home higher from the surrounding ground and safely from the impending storm surges, expansive decks extend along the water side. The decks are our de facto landscape and outdoor rooms. They are positioned vertically two stair risers below the finished first floor. The drop in deck heights preserves interior views over furniture and guests from inside the home. Steel cable railings provide a see-through safety “guard” as required by the building codes. The open plan on the interior provides the perpetual connection to the water. View dominates and directs the floor plan. Symmetrical window groupings will organize the first-floor plan. There will be plenty of space to handle the guests, but its mission is to provide good order for day to day living for just the homeowners themselves. Beds on the upper level are positioned with view in mind too. Waking up to the sun reflecting off the water is opportunity not to pass up. Inspiration for a craftsman kitchen remodel in Denver

We gave this large kitchen a completely new look! We brought the style up-to-date and added in some much needed counter space and storage. We loved the quirky charm of the original design, so we made to sure to keep it's unique style very much a part of the new design through the use of mixed materials. Artisanal hand-made floating shelves (made out of old barn wood) along with the exposed wooden beams create a soft but powerful statement -- warm and earthy but strikingly trendy. The rich woods from the floating shelves and height-adjustable pull-out pantry contrast beautifully with the glistening glass cabinets, which offer the perfect place to show off their stunning glassware. By installing new countertops, cabinets, and a peninsula, we were able to drastically improve the amount of workspace. The peninsula offers a place to dine, work, or even use as a buffet - just the kind of functionality and versatility our clients were looking for. The marble backsplash and stainless steel work table add a subtle touch of modernism, that blends extremely well with the more rustic elements. Also, the stainless steel table was the perfect solution for a make-shift island since this older kitchen did not have the typical width that is needed to add a built-in island (plus, it can easily be moved to fit the needs of the homeowners!). Other features include a brand new exhaust fan, which wasn't included in the original design, and entire leveling of the new hardwood floors, which were previously sinking down almost a foot from one side of the space to the other. Chair Cushions Pop With Sunbrella Icon Volt Sequoia This adorable pooch certainly approves of these seat, back, and ottoman cushions recently fabricated by Patio Lane! "The cushions are beautifully made and are exactly what I was hoping for. I purchased firm foam without understanding just how firm it would be and would not suggest this to anyone, but love the workmanship and fabric. It was very helpful to receive samples (which I requested quite a few several times) to help make my decision on the final color. Hopefully the cushions will soften over time and become more comfortable, but I'm sure they'll last quite a few years!"

Decorating with clocks is another easy way to inject style into a space without spending much money. Here’s a cool wall display I created using clocks I’ve accumulated over time. At the cottage, I didn’t have enough space to dedicate a whole room as an office, instead I created a drop zone desk in the hallway which can be used by our guests. Since I had an odd number of clocks (5 of them), I lined up the middle one with the desk and hung two on either side. I displayed the vintage clock in the middle because it was the largest, and also because it was the only one with a yellow background – two great reasons to place it center stage. For a fun contrast, I set my laptop across from an antique chair, and a vintage Royal typewriter facing a modern chair. The overall look is funky eclectic chic. Did you notice each clock shows a different time? I actually don’t have batteries in any of them. Since the guest bedroom is only a few steps away from the work station, I thought I’d be nice and not let the tic toc of each clock keep friends and family awake at night. On the other hand, if you want to set the time for each clock, make sure to insert the batteries and set the time before you hang them up. Trust me, it’ll save you lots of time and aggravation too as it can be quite a finicky process to re-hang each clock. UTRdecorating
