For instead of talking, showing clients drawings and sketches and saying “You’ll see that too at some point”, you have a tangible proof for all your words – photorealistic 3D renderings. Such as these ones, showing a child’s room project – a truly comfortable and magical place. And so cool!

With this client who has been passionate about plants all his life, there was naturally a close collaboration and a lot of input from him. Upon closer inspection you'd find some very exceptional plants that are sort of experimental but "all worth the try" in Gordon's eyes. And he is right! I relished the opportunity to use Star Magnolia stellata, Redbud Cercis 'Avondale' and 'Silver Cloud', Arabian Lilac 'Grand Duke of Tuscany', Royal Bromeliad Vriesea imperialis, also many unusual bulbs such as Scilla. Besides structure providing shrubs and trees (Tecoma, existing Indian Hawthorne with beautiful structures, Sweet Pea Bush, Golden Breath of Heaven, Ilex, Ginkgo, Bronze Loquat etc.) you'll see here also my favorite perennials, succulents and grasses, all as low care and undemanding as well as low-water as possible, to keep the landscape colorful and interesting year round. One of the highlights of this garden are the dry stream beds, bird bath and garden bench that we added. Built originally by himself and his wife, the dry stream beds were overgrown, mostly hidden by plant debris, or half rolling down hill. We had fun selecting a mixed collection of colorful and richly textured boulders of various sizes over, and with the input from 7 team members: Gordon, me, the contractor, the supervisor and three workers, we re-created the stream beds, making sure that anchor stones on the sides were well embedded in the slope, and that stone shelves and “top dressing” with smaller pebbles would add to the visual interest. Now these beds form very pleasing architectural features that look like they have always been there. We were all surprised how quickly all plants adapted to the site and started growing and putting out bloom. Now the old birdbath, a traditional white thing with dove figurines resting on the scalloped bowl, looked out of place, and I suggested to replace it with a stone bowl. And that part of the garden just called for a bench under the Macademia nut tree, to observe the birds and contemplate the whole creation. Only stone would do, but not any stone! Gordon picked a Basalt boulder that was naturally bowl shaped. It’s so heavy that it took 8 men to heave it into place! We loved the quirky charm of the original design, so we made to sure to keep it's unique style very much a part of the new design through the use of mixed materials. Artisanal hand-made floating shelves (made out of old barn wood) along with the exposed wooden beams create a soft but powerful statement -- warm and earthy but strikingly trendy. The rich woods from the floating shelves and height-adjustable pull-out pantry contrast beautifully with the glistening glass cabinets, which offer the perfect place to show off their stunning glassware. By installing new countertops, cabinets, and a peninsula, we were able to drastically improve the amount of workspace. The peninsula offers a place to dine, work, or even use as a buffet - just the kind of functionality and versatility our clients were looking for. The marble backsplash and stainless steel work table add a subtle touch of modernism, that blends extremely well with the more rustic elements. Also, the stainless steel table was the perfect solution for a make-shift island since this older kitchen did not have the typical width that is needed to add a built-in island (plus, it can easily be moved to fit the needs of the homeowners!). Other features include a brand new exhaust fan, which wasn't included in the original design, and entire leveling of the new hardwood floors, which were previously sinking down almost a foot from one side of the space to the other. For our full gut renovation of this Manhattan loft penthouse, we partnered with architecture firm Todd Zwigard Architects. Many of our clients know us as experts in the full design-build approach, where we handle every aspect of the project. But in this case, architectural plans were already drawn, the full schedule was finished, and our clients needed a partner to execute on the architectural plans – enter Gallery. Construction management is as vital to a project as the design phase, so we’re happy to offer our expertise in this type of scenario. A DIFFERENT APPROACH Construction and design are often the face of most renovations, but the planning and follow-through are naturally just as necessary to make it all come together. The project itself was a fairly straightforward gut renovation of the loft. Everything was included: new floors, a new kitchen, new bathrooms, new lighting. Our task was to manage every aspect of the construction, ensuring that the planning work of Todd Zwigard Architects was executed to the exact vision imagined for this Manhattan loft renovation. CONTEMPORARY GOES ECLECTIC Although we didn’t contribute to the aesthetic of the interior design in this project, we did carry out the plans that brought it life. The tone was very modern, with some eclectic touches. The kitchen, featuring an island with a baby blue lacquered finish, blends contemporary clean lines into an industrial-tinged, almost futuristic aesthetic. Reclaimed wooden doors and art pieces collected throughout the years are an ode to the client's travels, an artistic touch from Todd Zwigard Architects. LET’S TALK Quality of work is of course important, but there are several components of construction management that are equally vital: communication; processes that make sure you're able to adhere to schedules; protocols with both safety and communication. You might say this is the nerding out of the construction process. It’s not often the face of a project, but it’s absolutely massive in terms of carrying out a successful renovation, whether it’s a penthouse loft in Manhattan, a condo in Prospect Heights, or a kitchen in a Brooklyn brownstone. It can quickly become chaotic, but there’s an art to the planning and organization, and we’ve mastered it. The larger a project is, the more likely that havoc will rear its head. The antidote is not only really proper planning and construction management, as we achieved in this Manhattan loft penthouse renovation, but also a great working relationship with everyone else involved in the project: contractors, architect, and clients alike. Blue Dunes granite is a striking choice for a bathroom vanity, and this one in Columbia shows why. The stone carries a deep blue-gray base with movement that shifts from soft charcoal to cooler blue tones depending on the light in the room. It's the kind of slab that reads almost like natural stone artwork more than a countertop, which matters in a bathroom where you're standing close to it every morning and evening. Granite works well here because a vanity top takes a real beating over the years. Water sits on it, makeup and skincare products get set down and wiped up, and it needs to hold up without staining or dulling. Blue Dunes has the density and low porosity you want in that spot. With a stone that has as much personality as Blue Dunes, that layout work makes the difference between a top that looks intentional and one that looks like an afterthought. The edge on this one is eased, which keeps the look clean and doesn't fight with the stone's natural pattern. It's a small detail but it's the right call for a vanity where the visual weight should sit with the granite itself. Day to day, this top will handle exactly what a bathroom throws at it. It won't scratch from normal use, it wipes clean easily, and the color stays consistent whether the bathroom's lit by daylight or a vanity light at night. For a Columbia home, it's a solid, good-looking upgrade that fits right into the kind of work we do across the Midlands, matching the right stone to the right room and making sure it's built to last.

This Houston bathroom remodel has it all - from its contemporary, en suite design to its Carrara marble to its luxury spa shower and his-and-her closets! It's just one example of Outdoor Homescapes of Houston's bathroom remodeling projects - known for their meticulous attention to beauty and perfection. "You'll notice a lot of differences between the original renderings and the final project," notes Wayne Franks, owner of Outdoor Homescapes of Houston. "That's why our realistic, detailed 3D graphic renderings and virtual video tours are so useful to clients who can't visualize the end result in their heads. It was built along the wall of the new addition, as you can see in the 3D graphic created for the client below. The first door on the left leads to this closet. The next two doors down lead to the original, 6-foot-long by 4-feet-long by 4-feet-deep closet shared by the couple, but now reserved for him. As you can see in the graphic, a small, private commode was added onto the back of the new shower. Recessed lighting was also added for more ambient light, along with brushed nickel lighting fixtures. The closeup of the new shower and dressing suite, meanwhile, shows the black-and-grey border and accents in the shower. The border and accents are a stone-and-glass tile mix from Floor & Décor. The shower floor - a flat mosaic marble pebble - is also from Floor & Décor. Also notice the view of the Houston bath remodel, looking toward the back yard from the master bedroom. On the right, after the towel hooks and before the French doors, a flat-screen TV has been added for viewing from the shower and dressing area. This Houston bathroom remodel sprung out of a bachelor's engagement. The original, 300-square-foot master bathroom - still in the 80s with brass fixtures and wallpaper - desperately needed a redesign that could accommodate his future bride. So Outdoor Homescapes gutted the original bathroom and doubled the size with a 300-square-foot addition off the back of the house. Check out the full-on view of the project. Here is the completed family room looking southwest. We raised the the bottom chord of the roof truss to gain ceiling height from 8ft to 10ft. We enlarged the connection between the family rm and new kitchen to make it one space. The mantle was refinished and tile was added around the fireplace.
