The kitchen ceiling was opened to expose the original open-web steel joists, reclaiming height and making the space feel airy. A soft pastel palette continues the living room colour, with soft grey uppers, a mint backsplash, and a caramel-veined quartz countertop that waterfalls the island. Orange pendants pull the warm tones through.

The dining area pairs a large sideboard against a creamy wallpaper that contrasts the adjacent brick and softens the room. A wine cabinet and dining chairs echo the shape of the arched windows. A record player and vinyl collection nod to the client's past as a DJ.

The young child's bedroom is an open loft concept within the loft on the second floor at the top of the stairs. There are heavy theater style curtains that can be pulled shut to block out the light from the large double hung windows on the opposite side of the room.

Two adjacent warehouse units in a circa 1915 building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, were combined into a single modern live/work space. Careful consideration was paid to honoring and preserving original elements like exposed brick walls, timber beams and columns, hardwood and concrete floors and plaster walls.

The adaptive reuse of the ground and basement floors of an 1860s industrial structure integrates work and living spaces, using salvaged and low-cost everyday materials.
