Lakota Cove featured this fabulous 200 year old black walnut wood king bed. The bedding was hand made by an artist in Texas and was created with the finest black leather and scrolled leather accents. The detail was highlighted with gorgeous feathers and coordinating trim. The cowhide bench at the foot of the bed is the perfect place for any cowboy to take off his boots! The rusty red walls brought rich blends of color together to help balance the room. An old teak dresser brought a touch of antique to the room. The finishing thought was the horse lamp and a custom designed nightstand that accented the total western elegant style.

The challenge was to preserve the heritage of a small summer cabin that was built by the current owners' grandparents while providing a four season cabin for the extended family to enjoy. The original living room was kept intact while lifting it for a foundation and building insulated walls around it. The fireplace was caringly dismantled and reassembled using the same stones for the surrround. The large fireplace inlay is perfect for the flat screen TV and sound bar, keeping the profile streamlined. A colorful water vapor mist feature gives off the warm glow of a real fireplace without the heat. The selenite crystal logs provide a touch of alluring drama when lit. The first floor of this single-family home in Arlington, VA was divided to narrow staircase in front of the front door separating Living room and dining room. Just behind the dining room, was a very small kitchen, a nonfunctioning kitchen space, with a 2' wide window and just behind it an addition of storage room that literally served no purpose for them. They were looking for an updated look with lots of daylight and open first floor plan, plans were drawn up for both wall on sides of steps to be taken down giving openness to both living room and dining room. Three bearing walls separating kitchen and dining room, kitchen and added storage, and kitchen and living room were taken down and new structural support inserted instead. A major amount of plumbing and duct work were relocated allowing open space. The old storage area was converted mudroom, closet space with tile floor, ceiling was raised, side add was added and back windows were installed. Portion old storage space was given to create much added powder room. Cutely decorated with flowered design floor tiles and restored furniture style vanity cabinet. Installed a Double window to allow much needed lighting in the kitchen area. Large Island with prep sink was implemented in center of kitchen and old dining room, a butler area with wine chiller and glass cabinets was install just steps away from new Dining & Living room space. the old wood burning fireplace was converted to gas log with new marble heart. New barn door was installed to allow clear path to adjacent study. Upscale stainless-steel appliances, exotic stone top and subway tiles are added more pizzazz to this comfortable yet welcoming kitchen. she is more than pleased with her decisions and can't wait to throw more parties in her home.

This large backyard had an impressive infinity pool, hot tub, waterfalls and outdoor fireplace, but needed some cozying up. Susan Currie Design reconfigured the layout for outdoor furniture to make the space functional and inviting. Near the grill, we have a set of tables and chairs for quiet afternoon lunches in the shade. Another seating area in front of the fireplace welcomes dinner guests to linger over drinks and stargaze in the evening. By the pool, chaises and a small side table are perfect for relaxing with a book or magazine. Teal fabric on the newly upholstered seating and umbrella in a teal color scheme tie in with aqua color of the pool water, and make the seating areas feel cool and refreshing. Under the covered porch, the homeowners have what are essentially an outdoor living room and dining room. Close to the house, these areas are easy to bring food and drinks out to from inside, and offer a delightful view of the pool and surrounding yard. Because it is covered, this area will stay cooler through much of the day than the rest of the yard, but black drapes are available to close off the area to any direct sun that may find its way in, and add a dramatic finishing touch. An Indonesian teak log planted with succulents brings life to the dining table.

The original kitchen had some unique touches, but was dated and not a true reflection of our client. The existing kitchen felt dark despite an amazing amount of natural light, and the colors and textures of the cabinetry felt heavy and expired. The client wanted to keep with the traditional rustic aesthetic that is present throughout the rest of the home, but wanted a much brighter space and slightly more elegant appeal. Our scope included upgrades to just about everything: new semi-custom cabinetry, new quartz countertops, new paint, new light fixtures, new backsplash tile, and even a custom flue over the range. We kept the original flooring in tact, retained the original copper range hood, and maintained the same layout while optimizing light and function. The space is made brighter by a light cream primary cabinetry color, and additional feature lighting everywhere including in cabinets, under cabinets, and in toe kicks. The new kitchen island is made of knotty alder cabinetry and topped by Cambria quartz in Oakmoor. The dining table shares this same style of quartz and is surrounded by custom upholstered benches in Kravet's Cowhide suede. We introduced a new dramatic antler chandelier at the end of the island as well as Restoration Hardware accent lighting over the dining area and sconce lighting over the sink area open shelves. We utilized composite sinks in both the primary and bar locations, and accented these with farmhouse style bronze faucets. Stacked stone covers the backsplash, and a handmade elk mosaic adorns the space above the range for a custom look that is hard to ignore. We finished the space with a light copper paint color to add extra warmth and finished cabinetry with rustic bronze hardware.
