This yard started with dead grass, no irrigation to the back planter, water seeping through the block wall and the yard felt small. We removed all grass, removed the dirt in the planter, tar backed the wall and added a valve and PVC line for irrigation. Our homeowners were looking for a garden where they could sit by the fire, grow vegetable and hear the sound of water. Their home was new construction in a modern farmhouse style. We used gravel and concrete as paving. Board formed concrete firepit keeps it feeling modern. The vegetable beds supply season vegetables and herbs.

This raised vegetable garden is constructed with sustainably harvest Juniper timbers with accents of steel siding. The varying heights and steel accents give the garden a contemporary twist while staying true to the craftsman style of the home.

The best of past and present architectural styles combine in this welcoming, farmhouse-inspired design. Clad in low-maintenance siding, the distinctive exterior has plenty of street appeal, with its columned porch, multiple gables, shutters and interesting roof lines. This steeply sloping mountain lot has fantastic southern exposure and with the help of these boulder walls, access to some narrow and linear, but productive vegetable garden beds.
