The existing multi-level deck was large but lived small. The hot tub, angles, and wide steps occupied valuable sitting space. Wood Wise was asked to replace the deck with a covered porch. One challenge for the covered porch is the recessed location off the family room. There are three different pitched roofs to tie into. Also, there are two second floor windows to be considered. The solution is the low-pitched shed roof covered with a rubber membrane. Two Velux skylights are installed in the vaulted ceiling to light up the interior of the home. The white painted Plybead ceiling helps to make it even lighter. The new porch features a corner stone fireplace with a stone hearth and wood mantel. The floor is 5/4” x 4” pressure treated tongue & groove pine. The open grilling deck is conveniently located on the porch level. Fortress metal railing and lighted steps add style and safety. The end result is a beautiful porch that is perfect for intimate family times as well as larger gatherings.

Single-story, low-profile, sprawling layout — classic Ranch style (popular since the 1950s, now revived in modern form). Mixed materials: Dark gray horizontal siding combined with stacked stone accents (left wing and chimney) — very common in today’s elevated Ranch designs. Low-pitched, wide overhanging roof with asphalt shingles and exposed rafter tails (subtle Craftsman detail). Covered front porch with simple white columns and wooden decking. Large windows (including picture windows and multi-pane) that emphasize horizontal lines and indoor-outdoor connection. Integrated, asymmetrical massing — the house feels organic and connected rather than formal and symmetrical. Generous landscaping with colorful flower beds and stone walkway. This is a modern interpretation of the mid-century American Ranch home, updated with:Craftsman elements (roof overhangs, porch, stonework) Farmhouse touches (clean lines, functional feel, mixed materials) Contemporary finishes (dark exterior color, large windows, open feel)

An update to a 1950's 1,500 square foot ranch home on a 500 foot deep lot with large trees all through the neighborhood. Scope included removal of the low pitched roof, install a new higher pitch roof with as much useable space on the new second floor. The rear family room was expanded out and up with views from two levels to the large backyard. A large rear covered porch is included with outdoor cooking. The two car garage was expanded to 2 car-2 truck- one tractor.
