Rudloff Custom BuildersThis sun-filled farmhouse kitchen is the focal point of this home’s new addition. The kitchen is white with wood elements, giving it a contemporary feel. From the recessed outlets in the island, to the columns adorning the island, to the hood with walnut trim, to the paneled refrigerator that matches the cabinetry, every detail was customized for the homeowners. The kitchen is anchored by a large island with seating for seven and tons of storage. The island is bookended by additional components topped by walnut butcher block counters. One end serves as a table and the other end is an extra area for food prep and storage. There is also a cutting board integrated into the sink. The white quartz on the island and main kitchen counters and white subway tile backsplash give the kitchen a modern, sleek look. The walnut trim around the hood is a special touch that ties directly into the walnut butcher block counters.
After tearing down this home's existing addition, we set out to create a new addition with a modern farmhouse feel that still blended seamlessly with the original house. The addition includes a kitchen great room, laundry room and sitting room. Outside, we perfectly aligned the cupola on top of the roof, with the upper story windows and those with the lower windows, giving the addition a clean and crisp look. Using granite from Chester County, mica schist stone and hardy plank siding on the exterior walls helped the addition to blend in seamlessly with the original house. Inside, we customized each new space by paying close attention to the little details. Reclaimed wood for the mantle and shelving, sleek and subtle lighting under the reclaimed shelves, unique wall and floor tile, recessed outlets in the island, walnut trim on the hood, paneled appliances, and repeating materials in a symmetrical way work together to give the interior a sophisticated yet comfortable feel.

Leicht San DiegoThis LEICHT kitchen is San Diego Home & Garden's 2013 Kitchen of the Year.
The intelligent design elements of these sustainable LEICHT cabinets appealed to the homeowners, as did the many high-tech and user friendly features. The main cabinets are white high gloss surface. Leading in to the kitchen from the home entry area are built-in cabinets with a glass door opening to a hidden wine cellar. These cabinets were to blend with the kitchen architecture and serve as storage for components and chinaware. The upper cabinets are more for sculptural effect, as the heavy dishes are stored in drawers.

StoneUnlimited Kitchen and Bath RemodelingDouble showers are the main feature in this expansive master bathroom. The original shower included double showers but was closed off with 2 waist height walls of tile. Taking down the walls, squaring up the design and installing a full-length glass enclosure, creates more space visually and opens up the shower to more light.
Delta fixtures in Venetian Bronze finish are installed throughout. A spacious bench was installed for added comfort and double hand showers make showering a luxurious experience. 6"x6" porcelain Barcelona Collection tiles add a design element inside the upper portion of the shower walls and in the wall niche.
Liking the look of wood but not caring for the maintenance that real wood requires, these homeowner's opted to have 8"x48" Scrapwood Wind porcelain tiles installed instead. New Waypoint vanities in Cherry Slate finish and Sienna Bordeaux Granit tops provide a rich component in the room and are accessorized with Jeffrey Alexander Regency pulls that have a delicate antique brushed satin brass design.
An added key feature in this master bathroom is a newly installed door that conveniently leads out to their beautiful back yard pool just a few steps away.

JKL Development Inc.This 5687 sf home was a major renovation including significant modifications to exterior and interior structural components, walls and foundations. Included were the addition of several multi slide exterior doors, windows, new patio cover structure with master deck, climate controlled wine room, master bath steam shower, 4 new gas fireplace appliances and the center piece- a cantilever structural steel staircase with custom wood handrail and treads.
A complete demo down to drywall of all areas was performed excluding only the secondary baths, game room and laundry room where only the existing cabinets were kept and refinished. Some of the interior structural and partition walls were removed. All flooring, counter tops, shower walls, shower pans and tubs were removed and replaced.
New cabinets in kitchen and main bar by Mid Continent. All other cabinetry was custom fabricated and some existing cabinets refinished. Counter tops consist of Quartz, granite and marble. Flooring is porcelain tile and marble throughout. Wall surfaces are porcelain tile, natural stacked stone and custom wood throughout. All drywall surfaces are floated to smooth wall finish. Many electrical upgrades including LED recessed can lighting, LED strip lighting under cabinets and ceiling tray lighting throughout.
The front and rear yard was completely re landscaped including 2 gas fire features in the rear and a built in BBQ. The pool tile and plaster was refinished including all new concrete decking.
Brugnoni DesignThis 1960's kitchen condo had a dated floorplan. It was cramped, tiny and separated from the main living/dining area. To create a space more suitable for entertaining, all three walls were removed. The old bar area was incorporated into the new footprint. Brick veneer was used as a kitchen backsplash, installed up to the ceiling and around the side. It gives the illusion that the brick was always there, lurking behind the wall. To hide the electrical components, we added soffits and posts. This helped define the kitchen area. A knee wall in front of the island hides more electrical and adds counter depth. The open space between the counters was extended from 36 inches to 50, making it comfortable for multiple chefs. Luxury vinyl was installed to unify the space.

Banker WireThis California residence went from dark and dull to modern and bright with the help of Woodcliff Builders designer Jessica Peters. Remodeled with the thought of entertaining guests in mind, form and functionality played equal roles in the design process. Light cream tones wash over the home, punctuated by the bold statement that Banker Wire’s S-12 makes in it’s Antique Brass plated finish. This woven wire mesh pattern catches the eye throughout the kitchen, living room, and bar as various cabinet door infills.
The unique texture of S-12 brings balance to the stark contrasting color scheme throughout the kitchen. While the open-concept room boasts predominantly pale features, the highlights of the Antique Brass finish draw out the deeper rich tones in the white marble backsplash and counter tops. The shadows created by the weave of the wire mesh help tie in the dark accents in the kitchen, including the black light fixtures and the oil-rubbed bronze cabinet and drawer hardware.
Across from the kitchen, the eye is drawn to the main focal point of the living room, the built-in bookshelves. Banker Wire’s S-12 clads the four central cabinet doors, creating a unique hideaway for television components and other electronics. The Antique Brass finish brings warmth into the otherwise neutral structure, complimented by the displayed curios and the cozy furniture surrounding it. Both the wire mesh and the oil-rubbed bronze hardware are carried over from the kitchen, making for a cohesive home design.
In the home’s custom bar, S-12 adorns the front of the ceiling-high white cabinets. For this area, the former cabinet and drawer pulls have been replaced with brass and ivory colored hardware, underscoring the brass of the cabinet’s panel. Emphasized by the dark stone counter-top, the lowlights of the pattern accentuate the texture of the mesh, while the Antique Brass face coordinates with the wood of the lower cabinets, bringing a consistent appearance to the space.
“I just love that extra level of detail that this wire mesh provides for cabinets,” states Peters. “It really takes the design to the next level.”
The low open area of woven wire mesh pattern S-12 lends itself well to surfacing, cladding, and other applications where partial coverage is key. At 21.6%, only subtle glimpses will be perceptible through the mesh. Embossed and highly faceted, the highs and lows of this distinctive weave are more defined in plated and powder coat finishes, making Antique Brass plating the perfect choice for this residential cabinetry project.
Mike Gepfert HomesThe design is primarily Craftsman-style with a few modern touches, some retro components, and a lot of fun. The main level consists of an oversize single-car garage/man-cave, a spacious foyer, a fun half-bath with a hammered-copper fish vessel lavatory bowl, a large kitchen with custom cabinets offering lots of storage, and a functional island with seating which flows into the dining and living areas. The second level houses 2 bedrooms, a flex room, and a spacious Master Suite with private balcony, walk-in closet, office, and Master Bath with custom-tiled walk-in steam shower. Re-purposed barn doors and tracks from a family farm were used to compliment the painted craftsman-style interior trim.
Red cementitious lap siding adorns much of her exterior, accented with tan cementitious shakes and thin-veneer real stone and brick. Black windows, soffits, fascia and gutters complete the retro look. Awning window units were utilized to maximize some views and offer privacy in other areas.

Naikoon Contracting LtdThis project has three components, which is all built differently.
The main house is a waterfront property at the bottom of a steep cliff. All machine and materials are delivered by barge. Concrete is pumped from the top of the cliff down to the bottom with a 400ft line into a boom pump which was delivered by barge. Due to the challenging access to the site, most of the structural backfill is actually Styrofoam (EPS) backfill.
The garage is built from the top of the cliff, with a 27ft tall foundation wall. We needed to excavate to solid bedrock in order to adequately anchor the foundation into the hillside. This tall foundation wall are 10″ thick with a double grid of rebar to retain approximately 350 cu yards of fill. Styrofoam backfill was also used. A funicular (tramway) is also being built on this project, which required it’s own building permit.

Charles Rose Architects Inc.We were given the challenge of designing a house overlooking a pond on a site constrained by wetlands. Our client had an interest in permanence and solidity and a desire to work with architectural concrete. Additionally, the client desired interiors that would showcase their substantial art collection. Our design approach began with the footprint of an L-shaped courtyard house, which in part, was determined by the limited buildable area. The house is sited on a natural rise in the land, allowing the first floor elevation to rise 15 ft above the pond’s surface; this height provides dynamic views through the trees that separate the house from the pond. Ultimately, our design leverages the inherent capabilities of architectural concrete i.e. its structural capacity; the material allows for bold cantilevers and expanses of glass, creating greater transparency between interior and exterior environments.
The interior palette is comprised of rift sawn oak with 16-inch wide oak plank flooring, oak casework and millwork, a stainless steel and glass main staircase, and minimalist concrete details throughout. On the upper level, the plan accommodates a master bedroom suite, three children’s bedrooms, and a family room. The first floor includes a guest bedroom, living room, kitchen, dining room, office, and family room. The ground level has a recreational room, a mudroom, and office/studio. The site plan employs native plantings and includes a small resistance pool in the courtyard.
Concrete will be utilized for all of the house’s structural and insulation components. This method modulates the fluctuation of interior temperature, creating both an energy-efficient envelope and enough concrete mass to keep temperatures moderate and consistent throughout a 24-hour day. The employment of triple-glazed windows and a triple-glazed aluminum curtain wall further increases the project’s energy efficiency and allows the house to have abundant glass. Natural light permeates the interior and affords spectacular view in all directions of both Todd Pond and the neighboring woodlands.

Bilotta Kitchen & HomeThe homeowners wanted a sleek, contemporary kitchen that didn't feel cold, and still worked with the style of their classic, red brick colonial home. The design team, consisting of Bilotta senior designer, RitaLuisa Garcés and Billy Ceglia of Billy Ceglia Designs, opted for the warmth of traditional walnut cabinetry done in an exaggerated shaker style with ultra-thin stiles and rails and light textured laminate cabinets with distinct horizontal graining. The cabinetry they selected is Bilotta’s contemporary Artcraft line – European style cabinets manufactured in Canada. This combination of colors and textures helped solve another design issue: a long narrow space that opened directly into the family room. Cabinet colors and finishes helped to create the illusion of width in the space by situating the light cabinetry in an “L” across the rear wall and window wall of the space and “bookending” it with the full height walnut units that read more as paneling than cabinetry when viewed from the adjoining family room. The large simple island outfitted with Donghia counter stools, allows for an uninterrupted work space, storage of tabletop items, and also houses a “snack zone” for the client’s children with cabinetry and roll-outs for snacks, a microwave, and a beverage center all within easy reach, but outside of the main work area.
The custom stainless steel exhaust hood and handcrafted tile backsplash also add subtle visual interest to the space, reinforcing the idea that the back walls of the kitchen recede into the background creating the illusion of more space.
The centerpiece of the breakfast room is the multi light, hand blown chandelier from Niche Modern hanging above a blue lacquered breakfast table with stainless steel detailing and vintage Saarinen dining chairs. Together the components create a comfortable spot to dine, or just hang out.

HU-235072162The site is located on the Mitchell House preparatory school campus in Polokwane. The client's brief
called for an early childhood development centre which would accommodate 122 learners and
requested that the building be evident of it's young and playful users.
Curiosity, wonder and intrigue would become defining criteria in an attempt to create a conducive
learning environment for young learners to grow, a building where children would be encouraged to
interact with their environment. The construction methodology of the building would remain apparent,
allowing its users to analyse the assembly of components.
Due to the age group of the users, the building would need to function semi-autonomously from the
rest of the school, while allowing for controlled interaction and inclusivity as is the norm for Mitchell
House. A linear plan which coincides with the developmental progress of the learners was identified
as the appropriate building typology. The spatial constraints of the site required this plan to be
moulded into the available space between the existing infrastructure, however the linear process was
maintained.
From the access-controlled reception and administration area one would move past the creative arts
and exhibition space towards the Northern wing where the youngest learners are taught. These would
share connected ablutions and storerooms between classes to enable fluid movement and
assistance throughout the teaching and service spaces. The East wing of the centre would house the
elder learners who would be in the process of being integrated with the fabric of the main school
campus. These classrooms include storage areas, however, have separate ablution facilities. The two
wings of the building surround a courtyard where play and interaction are in abundance.
Kitchens of DiabloA mix of contemporary, modern, and mid century design. Natural wood finishes with simple countertop surfaces and stainless steel appliances. Light, open, and clean feel. Elmwood frameless cabinetry. All wood construction cabinets in Walnut with a natural finish. The countertop on the perimeter is Dekton in Zenith with a honed finish. The island is Neolith in Estatuario Silk. Both countertops have a mitered edge finish. The rangetop is a Wolf 48" gas range. The dishwasher is by bosch and this kitchen has two of them. The refrigerator and freezer are Subzero 36" built-in units placed next to each other to make one big component. The hood is by Best and is a 48" Island Hood called Gorgona. The microwave is a microwave drawer by Wolf and is 24". The double oven and the warming drawer are lined up vertically and all 30" by Wolf. The wine refrigerator is an under counter 24" by Subzero. The main sink is Oliveri 33" x 21" single bowl apron sink. There is an instant hot and an instant cold faucet, both by WaterINC. The island sink is by Franke and in the Peak Series. The island sink faucet is by KWC and is a single pull down faucet. The pendant lights over the island are by Niche and are the Modern Stamen Pendants in Smoke. The backsplash is 12" x 12" Koshi tile, with a blend between light grey and white. The wall and ceiling paint colors are by Benjamin Moore and are Chantilly Lace. The trim paint color is Swiss Coffee by Kelly Moore. All of the cabinet hardware is by Atlas Homewares. The flooring throughout the great room is by Boen and is a Oak Traditional in Chaletino.
