Photography by Ken Wyner 2101 Connecticut Avenue (c.1928), an 8-story brick and limestone Beaux Arts style building with spacious apartments, is said to have been “the finest apartment house to appear in Washington between the two World Wars.” (James M. Goode, Best Addresses, 1988.) As advertised for rent in 1928, the apartments were designed “to incorporate many details that would aid the residents in establishing a home atmosphere, one possessing charm and dignity usually found only in a private house… the character and tenancy (being) assured through careful selection of guests.” Home to Senators, Ambassadors, a Vice President and a Supreme Court Justice as well as numerous Washington socialites, the building still stands as one of the undisputed “best addresses” in Washington, DC.) So well laid-out was this gracious 3,000 sf apartment that the basic floor plan remains unchanged from the original architect’s 1927 design. The organizing feature was, and continues to be, the grand “gallery” space in the center of the unit. Every room in the apartment can be accessed via the gallery, thus preserving it as the centerpiece of the “charm and dignity” which the original design intended. Programmatic modifications consisted of the addition of a small powder room off of the foyer, and the conversion of a corner “sun room” into a room for meditation and study. The apartment received a thorough updating of all systems, services and finishes, including a new kitchen and new bathrooms, several new built-in cabinetry units, and the consolidation of numerous small closets and passageways into more accessible and efficient storage spaces.

Bedroom in downtown loft with NO windows! This was the challenge Interior Designer Rebecca Robeson faced when beginning this Denver Loft Remodel. Rebecca began by identifying the focal-point wall and addressing the overall dark feel of the room. She painted 3 walls a soft grey and one wall a dark navy blue. Rebecca applied her creative genius to the space by hanging nine beveled mirrors on the dark wall above the bed as a clever way to fool the eye into thinking the mirrors were windows. To further indulge the concept, Rebecca added crisp white linen panels to mimic window treatments on either side. This design idea created a dramatic symmetrical backdrop for the Bedroom furniture... A spectacular oversized blue and white rug (Aja Rugs) sets a perfect foundation for the queen size bed with two oversize nightstands in crisp white, the Bedroom was complete. Bedroom - rustic bedroom idea in Minneapolis

This is our current model for our community, Riverside Cliffs. This community is located along the tranquil Virgin River. This unique home gets better and better as you pass through the private front patio and into a gorgeous circular entry. The study conveniently located off the entry can also be used as a fourth bedroom. You will enjoy the bathroom accessible to both the study and another bedroom. A large walk-in closet is located inside the master bathroom. The great room, dining and kitchen area is perfect for family gathering. This home is beautiful inside and out. Jeremiah Barber

The glass bowl was made in the glass studio owned by the owner which is adjacent to the residence. The mirror is a repurposed window. The door is repurposed from a boarding house. George Mendel

Our Clients, the proud owners of a landmark 1860’s era Italianate home, desired to greatly improve their daily ingress and egress experience. With a growing young family, the lack of a proper entry area and attached garage was something they wanted to address. They also needed a guest suite to accommodate frequent out-of-town guests and visitors. But in the homeowner’s own words, “He didn’t want to be known as the guy who ‘screwed up’ this beautiful old home”. Our design challenge was to provide the needed space of a significant addition, but do so in a manner that would respect the historic home. Our design solution lay in providing a “hyphen”: a multi-functional daily entry breezeway connector linking the main house with a new garage and in-law suite above.
