Our clients came to us with a desire to completely renovate their master bathroom and enlarge the shower. We were able to double the size of the shower in width by taking space from an adjacent room. By not including a shower door, we were able to maximize the full potential of the space. An off set vanity bowl allowed us to provided four functional drawers for plenty of storage. Using a lighter tile in the shower and the floor we were able to create an interesting contrast in the vanity and granite. It only needed to be updated to today’s look and to flow with the rest of the house. The powder room was small, adding the pedestal sink opened it up and the wallpaper and ship lap added the character that it needed

Relocating to Portland, Oregon from California, this young family immediately hired Amy to redesign their newly purchased home to better fit their needs. The project included updating the kitchen, hall bath, and adding an en suite to their master bedroom. Removing a wall between the kitchen and dining allowed for additional counter space and storage along with improved traffic flow and increased natural light to the heart of the home. This galley style kitchen is focused on efficiency and functionality through custom cabinets with a pantry boasting drawer storage topped with quartz slab for durability, pull-out storage accessories throughout, deep drawers, and a quartz topped coffee bar/ buffet facing the dining area. The master bath and hall bath were born out of a single bath and a closet. While modest in size, the bathrooms are filled with functionality and colorful design elements. Durable hex shaped porcelain tiles compliment the blue vanities topped with white quartz countertops. The shower and tub are both tiled in handmade ceramic tiles, bringing much needed texture and movement of light to the space. The hall bath is outfitted with a toe-kick pull-out step for the family’s youngest member!

Inspiration for a mid-sized transitional master white tile and ceramic tile slate floor bathroom remodel in Vancouver with an integrated sink, recessed-panel cabinets, dark wood cabinets, quartz countertops, a one-piece toilet and blue walls

Atherton has many large substantial homes - our clients purchased an existing home on a one acre flag-shaped lot and asked us to design a new dream home for them. The result is a new 7,000 square foot four-building complex consisting of the main house, six-car garage with two car lifts, pool house with a full one bedroom residence inside, and a separate home office /work out gym studio building. A fifty-foot swimming pool was also created with fully landscaped yards. Given the rectangular shape of the lot, it was decided to angle the house to incoming visitors slightly so as to more dramatically present itself. The house became a classic u-shaped home but Feng Shui design principals were employed directing the placement of the pool house to better contain the energy flow on the site. The main house entry door is then aligned with a special Japanese red maple at the end of a long visual axis at the rear of the site. These angles and alignments set up everything else about the house design and layout, and views from various rooms allow you to see into virtually every space tracking movements of others in the home. The residence is simply divided into two wings of public use, kitchen and family room, and the other wing of bedrooms, connected by the living and dining great room. Function drove the exterior form of windows and solid walls with a line of clerestory windows which bring light into the middle of the large home. Extensive sun shadow studies with 3D tree modeling led to the unorthodox placement of the pool to the north of the home, but tree shadow tracking showed this to be the sunniest area during the entire year. Sustainable measures included a full 7.1kW solar photovoltaic array technically making the house off the grid, and arranged so that no panels are visible from the property. A large 16,000 gallon rainwater catchment system consisting of tanks buried below grade was installed. The home is California GreenPoint rated and also features sealed roof soffits and a sealed crawlspace without the usual venting. A whole house computer automation system with server room was installed as well. Heating and cooling utilize hot water radiant heated concrete and wood floors supplemented by heat pump generated heating and cooling. I was brought in on this Master Bathroom project to help design the floor-plan and select the materials. We started out by moving the location of the bathroom door (not pictured). Moving the door allowed the areas where the vanities are located, to have better use. I then selected this porcelain tile for the flooring and walls. We eliminated the curb from this shower and had a custom shower enclosure made. These glass doors are just about 8' high. I wanted to keep the crown molding that was already in the bathroom, so we ran the wall tile to the bottom of the crown molding. The custom built storage bench really makes the space beautiful. These renovated bathrooms blend sleek, modern design with functional elegance. The space features clean lines and a minimalist aesthetic, highlighted by neutral tones of soft greys and whites. A large frameless glass shower with a rainfall showerhead takes center stage, complemented by smooth, matte black fixtures for a striking contrast. The Horizontal bathroom is part of the master suite in one of the unit at the Four Seasons Tower. The challenge was to create a functioning master bathroom that allowed the views to be seen from all of a bathroom’s functional elements. Breaking with traditional bathroom design, in which all the functional elements are placed against the walls of the room, the design team chose to reorient the room so the view was prominently displayed from each functional area.

Our clients wanted to gain space in their small master bathroom to make it more usable and functional for their lives. The bathroom had not been touched since it was built in the 1960's and was in need of a major facelift as well. We stole some space from the adjacent master closet so we could make room for a double vanity and a larger shower. We used a fun black and white black patterned tile for the main part of the bathroom and used a white penny tile on the shower floor with dark gray grout. The wall tile is a marble look 3 x 12 porcelain subway tile. We went with brass plumbing fixtures, lighting, and hardware, which warm up the white cabinets & marble look quartz countertops. The large frameless mirror and frameless custom shower glass makes the room feel much larger and more open than it actually is. The existing laundry room was bare bones- just a washer and dryer with no storage. The clients wanted to be an extension of the rest of their home design wise and also be much more functional for them. We added cabinetry and a small bench with hooks, which allows this room to both function as a laundry room and mudroom. We added wainscoting throughout the laundry space as well. Overall we achieved two bright, classic, functional spaces that our clients can enjoy for years to come!

For this project, our homeowners’ bathroom was dark and gloomy – builders-grade that was no fun to use. Small, dark shower, old oak vanities, drop in tub with tile surround. She desired to have a bath with a spa feel, so taking baths and showers and preparing for the day would be more enjoyable. EKB Home redesigned the layout to include a curbless, walk in shower with body sprays, wand, rain head, and fixtures (in matte black) for optimal shower enjoyment. We then designed and placed this free standing bathtub with bottle shelf behind and focal light fixture above. Our custom floating vanities – with integrated lighting – were then built and installed and include several pull-out elements for enhanced storage and function. We then selected this mosaic tile for behind the new mirrors and sconces, along with the large format tiles for the floor. A complete transformation that thrills our homeowner. As happens with a majority of our remodels, our client hired us 2 years later to have us remodel her kitchen, laundry, pantry, two guest baths, dining room, and bar!

The goal of this remodel was to create a tranquil escape for the homeowner's. A window seat with drawers below add an inviting feature and functionality to the room. A soft, intimate ambiance was created with high wainscoting around the room, and by replacing the original cathedral ceiling with a framed soffit and paneled, raised ceiling that's up lit. This remodel project in Kirkland involved a new master bath and laundry room. The master bath was once a dark and dated space, but was transformed into a bright, open and inviting space that provides the perfect ambiance and functionality for getting ready for the day.

This Master Bathroom was outdated in appearance and although the size of the room was sufficient, the space felt crowded. The toilet location was undesirable, the shower was cramped and the bathroom floor was cold to stand on. The client wanted a new configuration that would eliminate the corner tub, but still have a bathtub in the room, plus a larger shower and more privacy to the toilet area. The 1980’s look needed to be replaced with a clean, contemporary look. A new room layout created a more functional space. A separated space was achieved for the toilet by relocating it and adding a cabinet and custom hanging pipe shelf above for privacy. By adding a double sink vanity, we gained valuable floor space to still have a soaking tub and larger shower. In-floor heat keeps the room cozy and warm all year long. The entry door was replaced with a pocket door to keep the area in front of the vanity unobstructed. The cabinet next to the toilet has sliding doors and adds storage for towels and toiletries and the vanity has a pull-out hair station. Rich, walnut cabinetry is accented nicely with the soft, blue/green color palette of the tiles and wall color. New window shades that can be lifted from the bottom or top are ideal if they want full light or an unobstructed view, while maintaining privacy. Handcrafted swirl pendants illuminate the vanity and are made from 100% recycled glass.
