This client couple, from out of town, searched far and wide for views like these. The 10-acre parcel features a long driveway through the woods, up to a relatively flat building site. Large windows out the front and back take in the layers of mountain ranges. The wood-beamed high ceilings and the wood-carved master bathroom barn add to the decor. Wide open floorplan is well-suited to the gatherings and parties they often host. Tumbled brick flooring in the kitchen and master bath.

Kansas City Interior Designer, Arlene Ladegaard of Design Connection, Inc. carefully transforms this Master Bedroom from a dated 1960’s throwback, heavy with oak and outdated furnishings, into a modern and sophisticated suite.
On the floors, beautiful gray plush carpet takes on a beautiful sheen, while the walls are painted in a serene gray with updated white trim. Furnishings consist of a gorgeous custom upholstered bed in a gray linen fabric with polished nickel nail head.
Because space was limited for bedside tables, Ladegaard selected two narrow, but handsome, dark wood side chests that complement the wood tones throughout the house. On each bedside chest is an opulent glass table lamp that offers a soft glow and supports reading from the bed.
Adjacent to the bed is a sitting area that opens to a beautiful terrace, and that hosts two handsome gray swivel chairs and an ottoman. Artwork in the room was carefully selected to suit the peacefulness of the room, and to add visual interest.
Design Connection Inc. provided for this project: space plans, elevations, lighting, material selections, wallpaper, bedding, window treatments, furniture, carpet, and project management during the remodel.

This master bathroom hosts a frameless glass shower enclosure with a showerhead, handheld showerhead, shower niche, large-format white and brown tiles.

The genesis of design for this desert retreat was the informal dining area in which the clients, along with family and friends, would gather.
Located in north Scottsdale’s prestigious Silverleaf, this ranch hacienda offers 6,500 square feet of gracious hospitality for family and friends. Focused around the informal dining area, the home’s living spaces, both indoor and outdoor, offer warmth of materials and proximity for expansion of the casual dining space that the owners envisioned for hosting gatherings to include their two grown children, parents, and many friends.
The kitchen, adjacent to the informal dining, serves as the functioning heart of the home and is open to the great room, informal dining room, and office, and is mere steps away from the outdoor patio lounge and poolside guest casita. Additionally, the main house master suite enjoys spectacular vistas of the adjacent McDowell mountains and distant Phoenix city lights.
The clients, who desired ample guest quarters for their visiting adult children, decided on a detached guest casita featuring two bedroom suites, a living area, and a small kitchen. The guest casita’s spectacular bedroom mountain views are surpassed only by the living area views of distant mountains seen beyond the spectacular pool and outdoor living spaces.

For a family that loves hosting large gatherings, this expansive home is a dream; boasting two unique entertaining spaces, each expanding onto outdoor-living areas, that capture its magnificent views. The sheer size of the home allows for various ‘experiences’; from a rec room perfect for hosting game day and an eat-in wine room escape on the lower-level, to a calming 2-story family greatroom on the main. Floors are connected by freestanding stairs, framing a custom cascading-pendant light, backed by a stone accent wall, and facing a 3-story waterfall. A custom metal art installation, templated from a cherished tree on the property, both brings nature inside and showcases the immense vertical volume of the house.

Perfectly embedded on an acre of land overlooking a pond, in the heart of Willow Bend of Plano, this dated, traditional home got more than a complete facelift. The wife is a “farmer’s daughter” and could have never imagined having a home like this to call her own one day. Finding a 15’ dining table was a tall task… especially for a family of four. Using a local craftsman, the most gorgeous white oak table was created to host everyone in the neighborhood! The clients told a lot of stories about their past and children. The designer realized that the stories were actually treasures as she incorporated their memories and symbols in every room. She brought these memories to life in a custom artwork collage above the family room mantel. From a tractor representing the grandfather, to the Russian alphabet portraying the roots of their adopted sons and some Cambodian script, there were meanings behind each piece. In order to bring nature indoors, the designer decided to demo the exterior wall to the patio to add a large folding door and blew out the wall dividing the formal dining room and breakfast room so there would be a clear sight through to the outdoors. Throughout the home, each family member was thought of. The fabrics and finishes had to withstand small boys, who were extremely active. The use of outdoor fabrics and beautiful scratch proof finishes were incorporated in every space – bring on the hotwheels.
