From the outside this one of a kind modern farmhouse home is set off by the contrasting materials of the Shou Sugi Ban Siding, exposed douglas fir accents and steel metal roof while the inside boasts a clean lined modern aesthetic equipped with a wood fired pizza oven. Through the design and planning phases of this home we developed a simple form that could be both beautiful and every efficient. This home is ready to be net zero with the future addition of renewable resource strategies (ie. solar panels).

Subway tile has made a huge resurgence - and made its way into the residential marketplace tenfold. It's classic, it's clean, and you can play with the installation method to get some creative results. The small footprint of this Master Bath is underplayed because of the vaulted ceiling and skylight, smart storage solutions, and trough sink...not to mention the uber cool rain-shower panel. This bathroom was stripped to the studs; removing floor to ceiling tile, a built-in jet bathtub, and closed off water closet and walk-in closet. All plumbing locations stayed as-is to reduce timeline and save on costs which could be allocated towards the custom vanity and closing off 1 window. The goal was an open concept, spa-inspired space.

Our design for the expansion and gut renovation of a small 1200 square foot house in a residential neighborhood triples is size, and reworks the living arrangement. The rear addition takes advantage of southern exposure with a "greenhouse" room that provides solar heat gain in winter, shading in summer, and a vast connection to the rear yard. Architecturally, we used an approach we call "willful practicality." The new soaring ceiling ties together first and second floors in a dramatic volumetric expansion of space, while providing increased ventilation and daylighting from greenhouse to operable windows and skylights at the peak. Exterior pockets of space are created from curved forces pushing in from outside to form cedar clad porch and stoop. Sustainable design is employed throughout all materials, energy systems and insulation. Masonry exterior walls and concrete floors provide thermal mass for the interior by insulating the exterior. An ERV system facilitates increased air changes and minimizes changes to the interior air temperature. Energy and water saving features and renewable, non-toxic materal selections are important aspects of the house design. Environmental community issues are addressed with a drywell in the side yard to mitigate rain runoff into the town sewer system. The long sloping south facing roof is in anticipation of future solar panels, with the standing seam metal roof providing anchoring opportunities for the panels. The exterior walls are clad in stucco, cedar, and cement-fiber panels defining different areas of the house. Closed cell spray insulation is applied to exterior walls and roof, giving the house an "air-tight" seal against air infiltration and a high R-value. The ERV system provides the ventilation needed with this tight envelope. The goal for this master suite was to replace a dated, heavy layout with a sense of "Warm Minimalism." We wanted to trade visual clutter for intentional textures. By pairing the natural grain of White Oak with the crisp, architectural lines of Matte Black fixtures, we created a space that feels grounded, airy, and deeply restorative. A master bath is a high-stakes environment where every inch counts. We took absolute ownership of the "inch-by-inch" planning required to expand the shower and incorporate a freestanding soaking tub without making the room feel crowded. Our Guided Process ensured the client felt confident in the bold choice of vertical stack tile—a design-forward move that draws the eye upward and adds a custom, boutique-hotel feel to the space. This is a "Host’s Private Oasis." While the rest of the home is ready for guests, this bathroom is a master-grade sanctuary for the homeowners. The elite craftsmanship is visible in the precision of the tile alignments and the seamless integration of the natural wood elements, providing a feeling of pride and daily joy.

This kitchen addition project is an expansion of an old story and a half South Bozeman home. A complete demolition and rebuild of this structure would be the best course of action, but we are in a historic neighborhood and we will be working with it as is. Budget is an issue as well, so in addition to the second story addition, we are limiting our renovation efforts to the kitchen and bathroom areas at the back the house. We are making a concerted effort to not get into too much of the existing front half of this house. This is precisely the type of remodeling work that requires a very skilled and experienced builder. And I emphasize experienced. We are lucky to be working with Luke Stahlberg of Ibex Builders. Luke is a talented local Bozeman contractor with years of experience in the remodeling industry. Luke is very methodical and well organized. This is a classic remodeling project with enough detail to really test a contractor’s skill and experience.
