Natural wood lapped siding emphasizes this homes more modern elements, while classic white board & batten covers the core of this house. A rustic stone water table wraps around the base and contours down into the rear view-out terrace.
Inside, a wide hallway connects the foyer to the den and living spaces through smooth case-less openings. Featuring a grey stone fireplace, tall windows, and vaulted wood ceiling, the living room bridges between the kitchen and den. The kitchen picks up some mid-century through the use of flat-faced upper and lower cabinets with chrome pulls. Richly toned wood chairs and table cap off the dining room, which is surrounded by windows on three sides. Capital Area Remodeling, LLCIn the master bedroom they had a little attic space, which we opened up, widened it and made it into a little loft.
The rafters were exposed, as they were Oak sapling with the bark still in tact. The rafters were joined by a peg, which was also exposed. The heart of pine flooring was saved, re-milled and re-installed.
Michaelson Homes LLCThe wall behind the stove used to be an opening to the foyer. It was closed in to allow for more wall space for cabinets and appliances. The navy cabinets were crafted and finished in Sherwin Williams Naval by Riverside Custom Cabinetry and designed by Michaelson Homes designer Lisa Mungin. They are accented with brass hardware knobs and pulls from the Emtek Trail line. The modern pendants were purchased from Ferguson. The showpiece of the kitchen is the stunning quartz waterfall island.

Mitra Designs Studio Collaborative
Mitra then designed series of three square windows on the facing wall of the master bath that was strategically placed to capture the beautiful perennial and rocky gardens beyond; as though each window is an art frame that presents the view outside.
To the left of these windows, is a large and open tiled shower with a cantilevered tiled heated bench. The shower floor was raided with a slight pitch with a linear floor drain. The shower includes a suspended ‘rain shower head’ and handheld shower on the wall. To further define the shower area Mitra designed a multi-layered shower wall that is slightly projected into the room. The creation of this multi-layered tiled wall also functioned as a chase to house the plumbings for both the shower and to install the tank-less toilet that was at the other side of the shower. For additional continuity and flow of design, Mitra then created a wall to wall white floating soffit to better define the shower and all other areas in this room. Capped by a picturesque double chimney and distinguished by its distinctive roof lines and patterned brick, stone and siding, Rookwood draws inspiration from Tudor and Shingle styles, two of the world’s most enduring architectural forms. Popular from about 1890 through 1940, Tudor is characterized by steeply pitched roofs, massive chimneys, tall narrow casement windows and decorative half-timbering. Shingle’s hallmarks include shingled walls, an asymmetrical façade, intersecting cross gables and extensive porches. A masterpiece of wood and stone, there is nothing ordinary about Rookwood, which combines the best of both worlds.
Once inside the foyer, the 3,500-square foot main level opens with a 27-foot central living room with natural fireplace. Nearby is a large kitchen featuring an extended island, hearth room and butler’s pantry with an adjacent formal dining space near the front of the house. Also featured is a sun room and spacious study, both perfect for relaxing, as well as two nearby garages that add up to almost 1,500 square foot of space. Spears Design Build GroupThe clients needed a larger space for a bathroom and closet. They also wanted to move the laundry room upstairs from the basement.
We added a room addition with a laundry / mud room, master bathroom with a wet room and enlarged the existing closet. We also removed the flat roof over the bedroom and added a pitched roof to match the existing. The color of the house is going to be changed from yellow to white siding.
The tub and shower is in the same “wet room” with plenty of natural light into the room. White subway tile be on the walls.
The laundry room sink was repurposed and refinished to be used here. New tile floor was also installed.
