The homeowners of this Marblehead residence wished to remodel their master bathroom, which had been redone only a few years prior. The previous renovation, however, was not a pleasant experience and they were hesitant to dive-in again. After an initial conversation, the homeowners agreed to meet with me to discuss the project. listened to their vision for the room, paid close attention to their concerns, and desire to create a tranquil environment, that would be functional and practical for their everyday lifestyle. In my first walk-through of the existing bathroom, several major issues became apparent. First, the vanity, a wooden table with two vessel sinks, did not allow access to the medicine cabinets due to its depth. Second, an oversized window installed in the shower did not provide privacy and had visible signs of rot. Third, the wallpaper by the shower was peeling and contained mold due to moisture. Finally, the hardwood flooring selected was impractical for a master bathroom. My suggestion was to incorporate timeless and classic materials that would provide longevity and create an elegant environment. I designed a standard depth custom vanity which contained plenty of storage. We chose lovely white and blue quartzite counter tops, white porcelain tile that mimic the look of Thasos marble, along with blue accents, polished chrome fixtures and coastal inspired lighting. Next, we replaced, relocated, and changed the window style and shape. We then fabricated a window frame out of the quartzite for protection which proved to give the shower a lovely focal point. Lastly, to keep with the coastal theme of the room, we installed shiplap for the walls. The homeowners now look forward to starting and ending their day in their bright and relaxing master bath. It has become a sanctuary to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

This Sterling VA home had an outdated master suite bathroom with limited space in the shower. Our team gracefully redesigned the master suite bathroom to include an expanded open shower. A bronze colored freestanding soaking tub was added to replace the previous soaking tub, proving more open space adjacent to the new shower.

What could go possibly wrong? Nothing with Alair as their contractor. Some creativity was required to get these clients the overall feel of the home they wanted without breaking the budget. The end result proves you can still have a big impact on a small budget if you target key areas and spend wisely.

This attic bathroom was a bit tricky to get the proper head height. A corner toilet helped with that, and the rain shower head was modified with an arched arm. The niche mirrors the skylight above. Vivian Johnson

A master bath with room to luxuriate. Floors walls and shower are made of porcelain tile designed to look like marble. Marble, while beautiful, is not forgiving when it comes to stains and daily wear and tear. Porcelain proves to be much more durable a product.

Proving that every home can be beautiful, regardless of size, style or budget...this master bedroom used carefully selected products from budget-friendly sources. Bold colors and use of texture create an inviting and beautiful bed, all without breaking the bank. The ample use of color helps reflect the youth of the couple, while the tailored and structured styling of the bed and tufted chairs add sophistication and a casual maturity. Tall ceilings were accented with the use of tall mirrors behind the nightstands and through floor-to-ceiling red drapes (in production during photos). Although there is ample natural light, there was no ceiling lighting. A modern ceiling fan with a drum-style light kit was added. The mirrors also serve to amplify the side lamps in the evening. A sitting area for relaxing, reading, and retreat was added with an area rug to balance the room with color and scale.

Proving that even a compact master bathroom design can benefit from thinking outside the box, this Grand Ledge bathroom remodel converted an adjacent closet to create a larger bathroom. The addition of a sliding barn door fits the space perfectly and adds an element of rustic style to the design. Aristokraft rich dark maple cabinetry is beautifully contrasted by a white SSU quartz countertop and Jeffrey Alexander hardware. A framed mirror matches the wood finish of the cabinetry, and the faucet and accessories complement the hardware finish, pulling together the style of this space. The cabinetry incorporates a hanging cabinet over the toilet for extra storage. The shower has a luxurious contemporary glass shower door, and includes recessed storage niches. Olympia Tile flooring pairs with Virginia Tile shower tile including a glass mosaic tile border that matches the backsplash. This compact space is packed with style and storage!
