Inspiration for a small craftsman enclosed light wood floor living room remodel in Grand Rapids with gray walls and a wall-mounted tv

Our clients for this remodel of a 100 year old home in San Francisco’s Liberty Hill neighborhood recently moved to San Francisco. The house they purchased was very stately and had great bones, but lacked a true master suite and had recently been remodeled in a slightly generic modern style. We helped them with projects throughout the house. Our biggest project was creating a true master suite out of two bedrooms and an existing bathroom. We created an open concept bathroom with custom gray lacquer wardrobes and shoe storage units with a dramatic slot skylight overhead. Access to the master bedroom is through this room. The clean lines of the bathroom are complimented by a very long wall hung vanity with a CaesarStone counter which flows into the walk-in shower and becomes the curb. A variety of tiles including locally fabricated tile from Heath Ceramics were carefully selected to create a warm and inviting, yet modern, feeling. Oak floors similar to those in the rest of the house were used throughout the master suite for continuity. By using the same tile on the back wall of the bathroom we were able to create a visual unity from the shower through the vanity and the water closet. Three season sunroom connecting to large patio allows even more space to enjoy family time. Pulp incorporated key beloved pieces from the homeowners’ collection with durable fabrics and custom pillows to create a tranquil retreat. Glass tile and marble were used to transform the master bath from a dark space to a space that is serene, open and aesthetically pleasing. Finishing touches really complete the look giving it an authentic spa feel.

Our client had the laundry room down in the basement, like so many other homes, but could not figure out how to get it upstairs. There simply was no room for it, so when we were called in to design the bathroom, we were asked to figure out a way to do what so many home owners are doing right now. That is; how do we bring the laundry room upstairs where all of the bedrooms are located, where all the dirty laundry is generated, saving us from having to go down 3 floors back and forth. So, the looming questions were, can this be done in our already small bathroom area, and If this can be done, how can we do it to make it fit within the upstairs living quarters seamlessly? It would take some creative thinking, some compromising and some clients who trust you enough to make some decisions that would affect not only their bathroom but their closets, their hallway, parts of their master bedroom and then having the logistics to work around their family, going in and out of their private sanctuary, keeping the area clean while generating a mountain of dust and debris, all in the same breath of being mindful of their precious children and a lovely dog.
