CKM Home Design took the sleek, stark space from a blank canvas to a warm mixed media masterpiece by adding layers of texture, color and light. The client, a fashionable and sophisticated 22-year-old aspiring actress was looking for a warm, glamorous aesthetic that melded with the building’s contemporary vibe and architecture. The space included many typical NYC apartment nuances requiring some creative design strategies and elements: one large open space living/dining area, awkward narrow nook that needed a purpose and some personality but also had some impressive design elements to maximize including the vast oversized windows and high ceilings. photo cred: Peter Rymwid

From their front porches to their brightly colored outbuildings, these graceful homes - clustered among walking paths, private docks, and parkland - nod to the Amish countryside in which they're sited. Their nostalgic appeal is complemented by open floor plans, exposed beam ceilings, and custom millwork, melding the charms of yesteryear with the character and conveniences demanded by today's discerning home buyers.

Inspiration for a large contemporary master dark wood floor and brown floor bedroom remodel in Grand Rapids with white walls, a corner fireplace and a stone fireplace

In our busy lives, creating a peaceful and rejuvenating home environment is essential to a healthy lifestyle. Built less than five years ago, this Stinson Beach Modern home is your own private oasis. Surrounded by a butterfly preserve and unparalleled ocean views, the home will lead you to a sense of connection with nature. Juxtaposition: defined as two things placed close together with contrasting effect, the word epitomizes this downtown Chicago residence. A family home, it evinces comfort, calm, and connection. There, an upholstered kitchen banquette recalls the coziness of a favorite restaurant’s corner table. And yet – while an elegant refuge for a busy family, this home is also a place of work. Indeed, it is the worldwide headquarters of a lauded anti-aging skincare company, complete with full-time employees and their offices. In the new design one of the first decisions was to keep the original oak wood floors but stain them dark for a richer, more dramatic appearance. The new stairway was created from iron rods, an industrial detail that artfully melds form and function.

When a doctor and a rocker purchased a historic home, they turned to Lee to blend their eclectic taste and style with the home's unique history. The result is a mix of old and new items that create a "luxe transitional look that seamlessly melded antiques with mid-century modern and abstract art with classic portraiture using many of the couple’s own furnishings and possessions.

Embodying the Palm Beach ideal, this home showcases a total interior and exterior renovation and remodel performed by Sciame Homes. The Pecky Sinker Cypress accents drive a bohemian feel that is both modern and timeless. Functional space abounds, offering natural flow points from the home’s interior to exterior and garden and decked spaces. The creative meld of textures distinguishes the home in substantive and subliminal ways.
