We made minor modifications to the existing flow of this 1996 home in the Cottage Lake area of Woodinville WA. The updates were made in adding white cabinets and lightening up the original space with fresh new tile, countertops and appliances.

CLIENT GOALS Nearly every room of this lovely Noe Valley home had been thoughtfully expanded and remodeled through its 120 years, short of the kitchen. Through this kitchen remodel, our clients wanted to remove the barrier between the kitchen and the family room and increase usability and storage for their growing family. DESIGN SOLUTION The kitchen design included modification to a load-bearing wall, which allowed for the seamless integration of the family room into the kitchen and the addition of seating at the peninsula. The kitchen layout changed considerably by incorporating the classic “triangle” (sink, range, and refrigerator), allowing for more efficient use of space. The unique and wonderful use of color in this kitchen makes it a classic – form, and function that will be fashionable for generations to come.

Complete gut and redesign of the Kitchen, Dining Room, Powder Bathroom and Second Floor Bathroom, including a floor plan modification of the Kitchen and Dining Rooms. Bespoke kitchen cabinetry design and furniture, wallpaper, and lighting updates throughout the first floor. Bathroom redesigns include carpentry, plumbing, tile, lighting, wallpaper, and accessories, along with a bathtub to shower conversion for the second floor bathroom. We had the kitchen wallpaper pattern custom colored to create the perfect combination of coral, yellow, and mint green—which matches the cabinetry to a tee! The bespoke brass and glass shelving that layers over the window creates the perfect decorative storage solution while still allowing light to filter in.

What began as three spaces – a larger-than-needed garage, an oversized laundry and utility room, and a too-small original kitchen – was reconfigured as two spaces. The laundry was relocated to the garage and much of the garage space given to the new spacious kitchen remodel. This required structural modifications and a complete re-design of the flow of the kitchen, with an island in the middle and a new peninsula instead of a solid wall opening to the formal dining area. Both spaces were designed for more natural light, and given all new finishes. At roughly 1,600 sq.ft. of existing living space, this modest 1971 split level home was too small for the family living there and in need of updating. Modifications to the existing roof line, adding a half 2nd level, and adding a new entry effected an overall change in building form. New finishes inside and out complete the alterations, creating a fresh new look. The sloping site drops away to the east, resulting in incredible views from all levels. From the clean, crisp interior spaces expansive glazing frames the VISTA.

Situated on the west slope of Mt. Baker Ridge, this remodel takes a contemporary view on traditional elements to maximize space, lightness and spectacular views of downtown Seattle and Puget Sound. We were approached by Vertical Construction Group to help a client bring their 1906 craftsman into the 21st century. The original home had many redeeming qualities that were unfortunately compromised by an early 2000’s renovation. This left the new homeowners with awkward and unusable spaces. After studying numerous space plans and roofline modifications, we were able to create quality interior and exterior spaces that reflected our client’s needs and design sensibilities. The resulting master suite, living space, roof deck(s) and re-invented kitchen are great examples of a successful collaboration between homeowner and design and build teams.

The home belonged to the fiancé and needed major modification for the couple to live together. There were multiple levels which had to be traversed as well as a small galley kitchen that would not accommodate his wheelchair. He could not even get into the master bathroom and closet prior to the remodel. This was a wonderful experience getting to help them start their new life together and becoming great friends in the process.

Built in 1853, this landmark townhouse suffered from decades of neglect. The new residence combines original materials such as the wide plank subfloors discovered beneath warped and rotted parquet with new insertions like the parlor floor steel structure and barn door. Energy conservation modifications including a fluid applied air barrier, continuous exterior wall insulation and a pair of compact boilers are hidden behind new interior finishes. This project is a conversion of the Architect's AIA Award-recognized studio into a live/work residence. An additional 725 sf allowed the project to completely in-fill an urban building site in a mixed residential/commercial neighborhood while accommodating a private courtyard and pool. Very few modifications were needed to the original studio building to convert the space available to a kitchen and dining space on the first floor and a bedroom, bath and home office on the second floor. The east-side addition includes a butler's pantry, powder room, living room, patio and pool on the first floor and a master suite on the second. The original finishes of metal and concrete were expanded to include concrete masonry and stucco. The masonry now extends from the living space into the outdoor courtyard, creating the illusion that the courtyard is an actual extension of the house.
